"So, the crystal that fell out of the other ship was an egg?"
    "Precisely."
    "And it had hatched?"
    "Oh, yes."

Some species employed eggs as a means of birthing their young, as opposed to live birth. Additionally, eggs served as a food source.

    Description

Eggs were known to be fragile; when the First Order attempted to break through the massive door which protected the Resistance outpost during the Battle of Crait, Poe Dameron remarked that the enemy's superlaser siege cannon would crack the door open like an egg.[2]

    Reproduction

Some species of organism gave birth to their offspring in eggs instead of through live birth. The egg would protect the young until they eventually hatched.[3]

The Nameless hatched from eggs that resembled large jewels.[4]

The species Querm Rybet to which "Frog Lady" belonged reproduced via external fertilization, in which one member of the species laid eggs which needed to be fertilized by another.[5] After hatching, tadpoles would emerge from the egg.[6]

The knobby white ice spiders laid eggs arranged in a wide area in caves.[5]

    Food

The Jawas from Arvala-7 loved to eat mudhorn eggs.[7] Eggs could also be cracked into a bowl and used as an ingredient in cooking.[8]

Grogu ate unfertilized eggs belonging to that of Frog Lady.[5]

    Behind the scenes

The Star Wars-Puzzle & Dragons collaboration featured major Star Wars characters who were unlocked via in-game "Egg Machines."[9]
