- "It's kind of pretty from up here."
"Sure, if you like depressing industrial space junk." - ―Zay Versio and Shriv Suurgav
Bracca was an inhospitable junkyard planet located in the galaxy's Mid Rim. Located close to various hyperspace routes, Bracca's strategic importance made it the site of a campaign during the Clone Wars. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the Scrapper Guild operated on the planet, breaking down starship wreckage and selling the components to the Empire.
Description
Bracca was a poor Mid Rim world dominated by rocky plains. Large swathes of the planet's surface were comprised of junkyards, with countless decommissioned starships and other machinery spread haphazardly, awaiting destruction. It was orbited by one moon.[1]
Given the generally inhospitable nature of the world, the majority of its population was comprised of scrappers, who made their living breaking down and selling the trash left on the world. The Scrapper Guild used to fix and build starships, hiring many engineers, but by the fifth year of the Imperial Era, engineers had turned into scrappers.[1] Nearly all services on Bracca were operated by the Scrapper Guild. Credits earned in a workday were quickly recouped by the Guild due to the prices for food, lodging, and other necessities.[13]
The scrappers often tipped platforms full of junk into the Ibdis Maw and harvested the waste products for profit.[8]
Via the Randon Run, Bracca was connected to Lantillies, on the Perlemian Trade Route, and Uyter.[4] The planet's spaceports exported supplies from the scrapyards to the Core Worlds; these supplies were delivered by an extensive system of high-speed transport trains criss-crossing Bracca's surface. The average shipment would pass through twenty-five checkpoints before reaching its final destination.[8]
Fauna
Bracca was home to the superorganism Ibdis Maw[8] that fed on wreckage from picked over ships.[1] The planet also hosted mygoras, bisnus,[9] and scrap rats.[1] Mygoras were large creatures that lived in the junkyards of Bracca, using pieces of scrap as body armor. Bisnus were smaller, but also lived in the junkyards; they were an egg-laying quadruped with purple skin and gray fur.[9] Scrap rats were a species of rat that could be found creating nests out of wires and often traveled through the pipes of the planet's wrecked ships.[1]
History
High Republic Era
Throughout the High Republic Era, Bracca was predominantly operated by independent scrappers, who worked under a "finders-keepers" dynamic.[11]
Sometime between 233 BBY and 232 BBY,[14] Bracca was visited by Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, Nubs, and Nash Durango in order to spend time with Eren Kitt for the day. While there, Kitt's droid, M1-M1, required a fresh power cell. Upon discovering a crate of power cells, a few Pikpiks stole the crate, violating the mutual "finders keepers" agreement between scrappers. This event would lead towards greater cooperation between Scrappers, and begin putting an end to the competitive "finders keepers" system altogether.[11]
Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs returned, this time to give Kitt some scrap they had scavenged from Marlaa Jinara's junkyard. When they arrived, they learned that Tippo and other Pikpiks had gotten lost in the badlands. Together they journeyed to find Tippo, who had been captured by two Nihil pirates and forced into working for them. Brightstar, Solay, Kitt and Nubs attempted to rescue the pikpik but during the ensuing firefight a Giant dianoga was alerted, and the pirates escaped with the pikpik. Tippo and the Jedi worked together to distract the pirates with the diagona, and saved the pikpik.[7]
Jedi younglings Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs alongside mechanic Nash Durango returned again,[9] sometime between 232 BBY and 230 BBY,[15] to find Nash's mom, Kryys Durango, a vio-harp for her birthday. Bracca was Nash's last hope to find the harp, as it was extremely rare. The group looked among the planet's vast junkyards to find it, but when they did, a scrapper took it instead. Disappointed, Nash chased after the scrapper's landspeeder, and the rest of the group went looking for other instruments as a contingency plan. All three members successfully found a musical instrument, and Nash succeeded in getting back the vio-harp. However, Nash accidentally dropped the harp onto a sleeping mygora.[9] She[16] quickly went after it but woke up the creature instead, causing the mygora to attack[9] her.[16] Because of the mygora's defensive nature over the scrap they have collected, the creature would not let Nash go without[9] her[16] returning the harp. Eventually, Nash gave the harp back to the creature, allowing[9] her[16] to escape.[9]
Clone Wars
A sudden strike on Bracca was carried out by the Confederacy of Independent Systems weeks into the Clone Wars. The Galactic Republic sent a clone battalion led by newly-promoted Jedi Knight Cyruss Okent to respond to the attack.[17]
During the final days of the Clone Wars[1] in 19 BBY,[18] the Confederacy attempted to take control of Bracca from the Galactic Republic with the help of their Scrapper Guild sympathizers[1] in the so-called Bracca Invasion.[19] The 13th Battalion, led by Jedi General Jaro Tapal and his Padawan Cal Kestis, was sent to secure the world and were successful in their mission. Tapal and Kestis were stationed above Bracca in their Venator-class Star Destroyer Albedo Brave, but following Order 66, Tapal was killed and Kestis crash-landed on Bracca.[1]
Imperial Era
- "I think it's time someone came forward. I, uh..., I-I've been working on this heap a long time. Way before the war. We refit and rebuild ships. Best in the galaxy. Then came the Empire. And engineers...became scrappers. The workers - just started getting worked. But we all know the truth. We're just...afraid to say it. To the Empire...we're all just expendable."
- ―Prauf
Shortly after the formation of the Galactic Empire[10] in 19 BBY,[20] the fugitive clone troopers Captain Rex and Clone Force 99 traveled to Bracca in order to utilize the medical amenities of a Jedi cruiser to remove the so-called "Bad Batch's" inhibitor chips, as the devices had been used to force the clone army to turn on the Jedi and serve the Empire.[10] In the aftermath, the location of the so-called "Bad Batch" was leaked to the Empire by a Scrapper Guild patrol, leading to a skirmish between them and Imperial forces, and the kidnapping of the young clone Omega during the battle by notorious bounty hunter Cad Bane.[21]
Five years later, Kestis was still on Bracca awaiting word from the Jedi Order and was working for the Scrapper Guild, which was for many the only source of credits, where it wasn't uncommon for workers to fall to their death whilst scrapping. After a workplace accident forced Kestis to use the Force to save his co-worker and friend Prauf, the Inquisitorius was alerted to his presence. Arriving on Bracca, the Second Sister and Ninth Sister questioned several of the Scrappers for the whereabouts of the Jedi. When Prauf stood up to them, he was executed by the Second Sister, forcing Cal to flee with the help of former Jedi Knight Cere Junda and Latero pilot Greez Dritus.[1]
In 9 ABY,[22] Bracca fell within the borders of the New Republic.[12]
Rise of the First Order
- "Even if we get to Coronet City and Poe and Charth and whoever are able to lift a few First Order ships, it's not enough."
"I agree. That's why I want you to go to Bracca. Put a team together. Take whoever you need and go get as many starfighters as you can." - ―Shriv Surgav and Leia Organa
Decades later, as war sparked up and the New Republic was destroyed, the First Order started sending claimed Republic starships for decommissioning at Bracca. General Leia Organa ordered a team there led by Shriv Suurgav to recover starships. The team, codenamed Dross Squadron, infiltrated the Scrapper Guild, but were confronted by stormtroopers. With the help of locals, they stole several X-wing starfighters, but at the loss of one of their pilots, Sanrec Stronghammer.[8]
Inhabitants
The Scrapper Guild was found on the planet, employing many beings in their junkyard business. Members of their workforce belonged to a variety of species, including humans and Abednedos.[1] Many dianogas lived among the wreckage of the planet, especially in the ponds and lakes of the Badlands. At least one dianoga lived inhabited the murky waters that sat beneath the scrap of a decommissioned Venator-class Star Destroyer.[10]
Behind the scenes
Bracca was created for the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment.[1] Prior to the game's release, it appeared in the novel Resistance Reborn, written by Rebecca Roanhorse and published in 2019.[8] The design of Bracca was intended to briefly illustrate where Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sat on the Star Wars timeline.[13] The designing process was "very collaborative," according to Environment Artist Evan Cwiertny.[23]

- ↑ The second season of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures spans the dedication of the Starlight Beacon (which appears in the season one finale "The Prince and the Pirate") and the mission to Vrant Tarnum (which appears in "Yoda Rescue"), both of which are dated to 232 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines. The Season Two episodes "The Great Gomgourd Quest" and "The Missing Life Day Feast" take place one year after the Season One episodes "The Harvest Feast" and "Life Day," placing those episodes in 233 BBY. Therefore the episodes between "Life Day" and "The Prince and the Pirate," which includes "Finders Keepers," takes place between 233 BBY and 232 BBY.
- ↑ Young Jedi Adventures Season Three takes place after the Season Two episode "Yoda Rescue," which features the mission to Vrant Tarnum. Season Three is also set while Bell Zettifar is a Padawan and still with Ember, placing it prior to the destruction of Starlight Beacon. Star Wars: Timelines dates these events to 232 BBY and 230 BBY respectively, meaning Season Three, which includes "Scrapping for a Song", takes place between those years.
