Aang was a Roonan senator for the planet Roona[3] who served in the Galactic Senate during the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the war, he served on the Military Oversight Committee and was persuaded by the Naboo senator Padmé Amidala to vote in favor of reducing the amount of money spent on the Grand Army of the Republic.[1] Despite Aang's support, the Senate ultimately voted to increase military funding in order to supply the army with five million additional clone troopers.[4] Senator Amidala once threw a party for him following the Conference on Alderaan.[1]
