I loved the movie!
I loved the new movie! It wasn't perfect but I think it did an excellent job at portraying the characters in their younger years. Spock was such a mixture!
Tom Cruise will NOT be in Star Trek...
Rumors were flying for a couple of days that actor Tom Cruise would put in an appearance in the new Star Trek movie but those rumors have proven to be false according to several online articles including one at http://www.cinemablend.com/new/No-….

Perhaps the busiest television actor on either side of the pond, British standup comedian-turned-actor Simon Pegg has become a ubiquitous presence to U.K. television viewers since making his debut in the popular 1995 comedy series Six Pairs of Pants. With his role as the writer and hapless title character in the British "zom-rom-com" (zombie romantic comedy) Shaun of the Dead, Pegg's popularity set sail for U.S. shores as well.
A Glouchester native who completed his education at Bristol University before segueing into film and television, Pegg showed considerable promise as an actor in his early television appearances. It was during the production of Six Pairs of Pants that Pegg made the acquaintance of future collaborators Jessica Stevenson and Edgar Wright, and in the years that followed, the trio would find notable small-screen success in such efforts as Asylum and Spaced -- with the latter finding an especially strong following on U.K. television. "I am playing 'Scotty,' but James Doohan is 'Scotty,'" Pegg told The Associated Press at the "Run Fatboy Run" premiere afterparty at Les Deux nightclub Monday night.
Doohan played "Scotty" in the '60s TV series and in several movies.
"I tried to approach the role like he did. He's a Scottish engineer who works in outerspace. He's a bit of a brawler. I didn't try to facilitate change," the 38-year-old British actor said.
In "Run Fatboy Run," which opens Friday, Pegg wears short-shorts as an fumbling Londoner who begins training for a marathon to impress his ex.
He's more coy about what his Montgomery "Scotty" Scott will look like in the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek," expected on the big screen next year.
"I couldn't possibly tell you what I wear in 'Star Trek,'" Pegg said.
Pegg said he finished shooting the film, which stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, last week. Pegg said he's signed up to star in three potential "Trek" movies.
"I'm looking forward to doing that for the next few years," he said. "Hopefully, I'll do a lot in between, too."

IGN TV: You're obviously a very different physical type than DeForest Kelley. How are you approaching the role?
Urban: Again, it comes down to the script and it comes down to following J.J.'s lead and working in conjunction with this great cast that he's assembled and being faithful and honorable to the very essence and spirit of those characters that were created back in the late '60s. Again, it is a case of not doing some sort of facsimile or carbon copy, but really taking the very essence of what DeForest has done and honoring that and bringing something new to the table.
IGN TV: This is similar to my Comanche Moon question, but I'm curious if you re-watched old episodes of the show before you began working on the film?
Urban: Well, I've been watching Star Trek since I was, oh gosh, seven years old so I was very familiar with the original series and with those characters. I didn't actually even have to go out of my way to re-watch old episodes. I've just been watching them for over 20 years! [Laughs]
IGN TV: You might not be able to answer this question, but are you looking forward to saying "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor!"?
Urban: Oh, you'll have to wait and see! [Laughs]
IGN TV: McCoy was usually more hands off than Kirk and Spock, but you have done some pretty physical roles. Should we get ready for a more bad ass McCoy here?
Urban: I can't divulge any secrets. I would love to spill the beans, but I'm really not at liberty to say. But I just will say that the project as a whole is very faithful to the original series and I think that J.J. has a very fresh and exciting approach and I think that he's an incredibly talented visionary. I believe that he is going to reinvigorate this franchise in a really healthy, positive and exciting way. I really think that the Trekkers and the long time fans will be really pleased with it, because it really does honor the very spirit of what we are all really quite crazy about, in a good way.
IGN TV: How's it working with your fellow cast members?
Urban: J.J.'s assembled an absolutely awesome cast. Everybody is really great. It's very exciting to be a part of.
IGN TV: I happened to go to high school with Chris Pine, so I was excited to see him cast as Kirk.
Urban: He's very good. He's very good. I'm so pleased that we've got someone of his caliber and ability in the role of Kirk, because he's extraordinarily talented and funny. I think he's got a big future ahead of him."

I am so looking forward to seeing this new Star Trek film!! I'm a big fan of the original series and the first films. I've only seen a little of the other television series, mostly Voyager, but hope to catch up a bit.
I had heard Leonard Nimoy was in the film, he will still be playing Spock won't he? I know someone else plays the younger Spock and was wondering how the other would be shown.
I'm also a fan of Karl Urban since The Lord of the Rings and most recently the Comanche Moon mini-series, so it was very exciting to find out he'd be playing Dr. McCoy.
