Would anyone be interested in going to a FREE anime showing at the Freer Gallery of art on Saturday late afternoon? They are doing this in conjunction with the DC Cherry Blossom festival. I figured we could go watch these two (which got great reviews and look pretty sweet from the research I did):
Vexille 4:00 PM Visual effects whiz Sori directed this stunning example of animation as high tech high art – a fusion of advanced techniques and sophisticated thinking about mankind’s possible future. In the year 2077, Japan has isolated itself from the world. The film’s eponymous heroine and her team of US commandos are ordered to infiltrate its barricades and get to the root of the illegal biotechnology experiments being conducted by sinister mega-corporation Daiwa. Rated PG-13. (2007, 110 min., Japanese with English subtitles, video)
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 7:00 PM In 35mm! As the title suggests, Mamoru Hosoda’s cheery comedy is about a teenage tomboy who discovers that she can travel through time. After discovering her power, goofy, scatterbrained Motoko goes on all manner of exciting adventures, but ultimately realizes that friendship is the greatest adventure of all. Rated PG. (2006, 98 min., Japanese with English subtitles)
All films will be introduced by author Frederik Schodt.
Tickets Tickets for all films (two per person per film) will be distributed beginning at 10:30 AM. Half of the tickets for each film will be held back and distributed approximately one hour before each show time.

Thank God there was no traffic this morning on the way to work. That would have SEVERELY irritated me. But, par for the course for living so close to DC. The office was dead today due to several of my coworkers who lived on the other side of the beltway. Those of us who came to work watched the inauguration in the conference room on a live feed. We heard an amazing speech today.
In non-Obama news.. I get my braces off and teeth professionally whitened in 2 months. Fantastic. I will probably have to wear retainers for a while. Worth it. I've lost about 5 lbs. Still have a lot to tone.
I'm thinking of getting a part time job even though I have a salaried full time job. Why, you ask? Because Life, the Universe and Everything is expensive. I have to pay for aforementioned braces (10K for adult braces is so very jawsome..no pun intended). I also have to pay back a couple thousand in student loans. I have one more credit card left to pay off annnnnnnnnnnnd *drumroll* botox injections at $900 a vial [I'll need four vials]. (NOT for cosmedic reasons, but rather for my hyperhydrosis treatment.) Also, i would like to move out (and really, move on with my life) as soon as possible. AND, grad school starts this summer/fall. Now, i'm not a math person, but all of this just does not equate without some extra income. "She works hard for her money and you never treat her right..."
9:20 and I'm already feeling ready for bed. I've gotten old.
Happy Birthday to Matt P. and the Disco. Hope you guys had a good one.
Yep. Thats right. I'm a selfish girl who can only think about her own problems.

So, after much LJ lurking, i decided it was time to contribute something.
It's been almost four months since I graduated and started my relatively short (but seemingly never-ending) search for a job. I was honestly willing to settle for anything that would give me a decent paycheck and enable me to move on to the next part of my life. However, I have to say that I've been extremely lucky in the past week or so and not only did I receive a job offer, but one that sounds like an amazing opportunity. I officially got hired with Camber, a government contractor to work with the national security division. Its an entry level position but the opportunity for advancement is definitely there and the benefits are amazing . Not to mention the fact that its in Centreville of all places, so my "commute" will be about 20-15 minutes, which is almost unheard of in NoVa. I start my inprocessing this Monday so hopefully all will go well and I'll catch on quickly.
Not to be mentioning school again so quickly after I just graduated but I am going to be starting my Master's degree in either the summer or fall of next year. Right now I am looking at GMU and American for foreign policy or international security. I have plenty of time to shop around for programs though, and prepare myself for the GRE.
The past couple of weeks haven't been without their sad times though. My love goes out to the Weigle family. One of my close friends lost her mom to cancer a week and a half ago. It was the first funeral and wake I've ever attended. It was heartbreaking to think about such a great loss. Mrs. Weigle received everyone in her house with kindness and generosity, may she rest in peace.
It has been surreal times recently, and I can't wait for what the next few months have to bring. I've been making plans to move out of my parents house in March of 09, which should be an adventure. A new job and heading back to school make me so excited! I have lots of fun things planned for the holidays already, including going to see the EPIC Trans-siberian Orchestra in Dec, which Chris was awesome enough to buy tickets for. Speaking of Chris...Not to be overly sappy, but he seriously is the most amazing man I have ever met. I've found potentially the only person on the planet who I find super attractive, athletic, and nerdy enough to geek out with. I mean who else would have dressed a a vietcong to match my rambo on halloween?!
Final Thoughts: - my dog is adorable (shes curled up on my bed right now: SO SPOILED) - my hair is bright red - i need a hair cut - i need new work clothes - i love fresh coffee - i have lots of books i want to read - i have lots of things to get done before Monday
...i started listening to The WHO and Cream. "RICHARD, WHATS HAPPENING!?"
The words "you don't listen unless i yell" never rang more true.
In other news, i'm annoyed. Due to...
-the debates -being ignored -being talked over -lack of job -lack of personal/private space that actually BELONGS to me -being a control freak -being such a Virgo
I went with Chris to see "Burn After Reading" tonight. FOR FREE! And it was quite hilarious. Thanks Coen Bros, for giving me quite a few "HOLY S***, WTF!?" moments. John Malkovich really worked that axe.
I'm working tomorrow, and Monday. Better than nothing I suppose..
And, to bring it back to the subject line, the Northern Virginia Brew Fest is happening THIS WEEKEND. We are trying to get a crew of people to go on Saturday. YOU SHOULD BE(er) THERE! Let me know if you can make it!
So, things have been snowballing like crazy. There was a brief period of draught, but hey, when it rains, it pours.
My diploma FINALLY came. YES! Now, to get it framed all fancy-like.
SAIC contacted me about a job i applied for that sounds like an AMAZING opportunity. I'm supposed to hear something by early this week. Is 9 am tomorrow morning asking too much? It would be a great way to get a foot in the door with the company, and its pretty much a springboard position into SO MANY others things. That couple with the fact that they'd get me a TS is pretty tempting. I hope I get it!!!!!!! Hopefully there will be a really positive post after this one. If not, i'll just keep on keepin' on.
Going to start researching grad school programs and the GRE here soon. I've decided I'm going to start my Masters next summer if possible. That gives me a while to work, and not worry about anything else.
