Bugs. Hell yeah 👍

@staple-teeth

if you look like a bot (no posts reblogged, untitled) i will block you. be warned. Formerly sweetcapncakes-my-beloved.

the really crazy thing about cooking is that once you practice it enough (for all the gamers reading this: "grind enough exp") your threshold for wuat counts as a low effort / depression / I Dont Really Want To Cook meal rises steadily and you can feel yourself becoming the kind of person whose "chill dinner" takes 1h45 and involves three pans

ok but how do I get there from "assembling a sandwich is too much work"

As someone who went through this and struggles with chronic pain and fatigue, add 1 thing semi regularly. And I do mean just 1 thing.

When I first moved out most my meals were instant ramen. Then I started adding 1 egg to that ramen to get a little protein in. In a couple months, 1 egg became two. Then it was 2 eggs and 1 chopped green onion. Then a couple months later I was adding carrots and other vegetables. In about two years I was able to skip the instant ramen part altogether and now use chicken broth and noodles and I’m basically making a ramenesque soup from scratch when I’m craving ramen. It took 2+ years total of just gradually, one at a time, adding one ingredient. Over a period of months/weeks.

Start with where you’re able. If a sandwich is too much, maybe try just a piece of bread and some meat or cheese. Focus on where you can be gradually introducing more nutrients into your body. 1 slice of deli meat. A couple weeks later, that plus 1 slice of cheese. Then 1 vegetable. Maybe they don’t all make it into sandwich form and that’s ok. But if you keep what’s the most basic and simple for yourself and slowly add 1 thing that’s not too much of a hassle, over a couple months you might start toasting the bread before putting cheese and meat on it. Then one day there’s more vegetables. Years down the line you might find yourself owning a panini press or slicing your own bread.

Most of us will never be gourmet chefs and that shouldn’t be the goal. You might not ever get to the point where you own a panini press. But the more important thing is that you’re finding ways that work, for you, gradually, in order to make your meals more nutritious. The expectation to cook a full, unique meal every night for dinner is a relatively new phenomenon and completely unrealistic for most people. Having the same 3 things you can make consistently and keep on rotation is plenty fine, especially if you get to the point where you can mix it up a little bit by adding ingredients in the method stated above. Feeding yourself should be the #1 goal, getting more nutrients in #2, and stepping it up to the next level #3 when you have the capacity to. Like with a lot of things, it’s really just about consistency. Start with where you can be consistent. If that’s 1 meal a week you cook yourself and the rest is hot pockets, but you can do that 1 meal consistently, then that’s where you start. Then when you have that down, maybe try two (of the same) meals a week, or ask what you can add to your hot pocket to make it a little better for you. (Some vegetables on the side for instance).

Don’t try to jump in from 0 to full course meal all at once or you’ll overwhelm yourself. Building a meal outward from bread and butter over a period of weeks is incredibly possible. No two peoples’ timelines will be the same, but it is entirely possible and that success will look different for everyone, and that’s also ok. As long as you’re feeding yourself, that’s what’s most important.

this is so helpful. too many times when I ask how to do something, people tell me to "just do it" like I'm supposed to already know what steps to take. and I almost never know what steps to take. someone actually telling me is so refreshing

and really i think the most perfect way to explore rocky's abandonment trauma and struggles with reintegration on erid is to make him chronically unable to thrum.

not just academic thrumming (because there's no way that a species would evolve gestalt intelligence without it bleeding into every cultural and interpersonal aspect of their society) but even on a smaller, purely social or familial level. he just... can't. maybe it's the kind of cognitive skill you need to keep using so it doesn't atrophy, and rocky had to survive alone without another member of his species for 50 years, maybe it's a complication of his PTSD from the blip-a days, where his brain shuts down any attempt to connect his consciousness to others to protect the rest of the group from his traumatic memories.

but just imagine being part of an intelligent species so hypersocial and tight-knit that you habitually blend your own sense of consciousness and self together as a form of problem solving, spending half a century in space in complete isolation with only the corpses of your crew for company, returning home by a miracle and you just.

you can't. you can't do it anymore. they thrum, and they call for you, and you try but it feels like there's a soundproof wall between you and everyone else, or you thrum back and the second the contact lands it feels like they're trying to crack your carapace in half.

oh, by the way, your alien best friend is starving to death. he's just about to run out of his food supplies and everything organic on your planet is deadly toxic to him. the only hope for him is synthesizing the nutrients he needs from scratch, so your people assembled the second biggest science thrum in history to do just that as a sign of gratitude and they would really appreciate the input from the human expert who spent next to 4 years in direct proximity with said alien. too bad the stupid crystals in your brain can't get their shit together even for two seconds to save your best friend's life.

I'm sure rocky only feels normal emotions about this.

Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.

And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.

And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.

This isn't just for cults either! Shitty partners, bosses, friends - they all do variants of this where if you kick back the first time they make an unreasonable request, it proves you weren't ever committed since you'd let such a small thing ruin everything. And of course, if it's the third or the tenth unreasonable thing they ask of you, it's SUCH A SMALL THING to be a deal-breaker at this late point in your relationship!

Anonymous asked:

okay so this was the first thing that popped in my head upon seeing the requests post: bonnie riding on a huge isopod as if it's a pony

sorry this is definitely not the kind of request you were expecting but it made me laugh so i'm sending it anyway

fun fact, my thesis paper was on Isopod's affect on soil, so heres Bonnie riding on my friend P. scaber

I do think the funniest Hornet character trait that silksong kept consistent from Hollow Knight is that Hornet is really really bad at remembering to introduce herself to new people. She never actually tells the Knight her name in the game. She just forgot.

In keeping with this theme, Hornet completely forgets to introduce herself to a number of people even after growing close to them. This includes, Shakra (who has to learn Hornet's name from OTHER PEOPLE), Nuu, Pinstress, Sherma, Seamstress, the caretaker, Second Sentinel, Lace (in fairness, Lace also never tells Hornet her name), Plinney, Forge Daughter, Twelfth Architect, and both Garmond and Zaza!! Like 90% of the characters Hornet has a substantial relationship with either do not know her name, or in Shakra's case literally only know it because they learned it from someone else.

The Caretaker helps Hornet kill a god. She still did not remember to share her name with him. Nuu is running around after Hornet looking at bodies the entire game, and calling her Miss Grown Up. Hornet openly declares Second Sentinel her friend, to them, despite having not even remembered to introduce herself on their first meeting.

Literally every instance I can find of Hornet telling someone her name, is when she's specifically prompted to do so. Seth tells his name on their first meeting and Hornet's like "oh neat" and then Does Not Introduce Herself until their second meeting when Seth is like "uh by the way what's your name?".

Hornet tells Kratt "I am Hornet, sir. Address me by that name or not at all." Which is such a funny line and so specifically targeted at him because Hornet has 20+ different nicknames and she responds to literally all of them without any problem. Shakra starts calling her "Child Wielding Needle" and for literally the entire game Hornet's like "yeah I'll answer to that".

HORNET LITERALLY TELLS STYX "Do not call me mistress" AND THEN DOES NOT TELL HIM HER NAME. IT'S REALLY REALLY FUNNY OF HER. STYX NEVER LEARNS HER NAME EITHER. My girl is so bad at introductions, post-game she is gonna have to reintroduce herself like 20 times, and I hope Lace is there to make fun of her each and every time.

nicknames hornet will not tolerate: any nickname from a man with romantic or sexual connotations

Nicknames hornet will tolerate: literally anything else anyone calls her
