something something that quote about how much of gender presentation is made of one’s mannerisms and one’s walk and how much disability inhibits or totally disallows that, rendering you forcibly genderless in presentation. something something the fact that disabled adults are so frequently infantilised and framed as sexless and unfuckable. something something “you can’t be trans/gay AND disabled”. something something being stripped of your adult, gendered, sexual identity as a disabled person.

A lot of people genuinely believe that permanent disability isn't a thing that happens to good people who work hard and make responsible choices. A lot of people genuinely think that we get the life we work for and deserve. And this is definitely part of the explanation for why ableism is so prevalent

part of disability rights activism is standing up against fatphobia. fatphobia and ableism are intertwined. fighting against ableism must involve fighting against fatphobia or you will never solve the problem. trying to pluck out individual pieces of the problem will not disassemble the entire structure. we need to break down every last brick including the bricks connected to fatphobia.

if you aren't against fatphobia then you aren't against ableism. if you aren't willing to fight against fatphobia then you aren't a disability activist.

Weight gain is a symptom of many illnesses, and a side effect of many medications.
Weight loss surgery is extremely dangerous and can leave a previously healthy person disabled by chronic conditions.
Many chronically Ill people are forced to do dangerous weight loss practices and surgeries in order to finally get treated for their conditions which have nothing to do with their weight, often missing the timeframe in which those conditions could be adequately treated.
Many people considered overweight will have their health symptoms ignored because of their weight, which would be considered malpractice against a smaller patient.
People with eating disorders are encouraged to harm themselves if they are considered overweight, causing organ damage and relapse.
Even if someone is disabled due entirely to their weight or fat distribution that does not exclude them from having rights as a person, or justify their abuse. Ableism is never ok!
fatphobic infrastructure and design are inherently ableist.
