regulus has lived with sirius in that little apartment once, both of them trying so hard to make it work, to be a family in a place that didn’t already know their names, buying mismatched mugs and cheap curtains and pretending the world outside couldn’t reach them, sirius cooking badly on purpose just to make regulus laugh and regulus leaving his keys in the same bowl every night like it meant he was staying, but in the end regulus packed his bag while the sun was still rising and walked back into that wretched house willingly because what even is regulus if he can’t be a black, the name sitting heavier than any love he tried to choose, and it still hurts though that when he walks past sirius’s apartment, his phone automatically connects to the wifi. “our home”. he never changed it. maybe sirius forgot, maybe he couldn’t bring himself to, but regulus always notices. for a few seconds, his phone thinks he’s home again, and regulus has to keep walking trying to ignore the stinging in the quiet place behind his ribs where the word family used to live

Regulus isn't that smart. He isn't stupid either, he's fairly average in intelligence, maybe slightly cleverer then some due to his posh education and rigorous tutoring. But he thinks he's the smartest mastermind in any room he walks into, and acts and speaks like that is a solid fact of the universe just because he's been reading classics since he was 7 and has misinterpreted nearly all of them.
Thank you!!! Like no, dude is not a criminal mastermind, he does think he is, bros just a normal dude with advanced skills for his age but not like ground-breaking
Ship so embedded into the very soul of the story that they had to nuke the whole thing to get rid of it
And yet, it remains
Byler.
hey
hey friend
dont kill yourself tonight ok
you have a really pretty smile and i know its not always easy to manage one but itd be a bummer if we never had the chance to see it ever again
youre really important and you matter a lot so stay safe and try and have a nice sleep

The Great Hall was loud in the way only breakfast at Hogwarts could be—hundreds of voices tangled together, chairs scraping stone, cutlery clinking against plates, and the restless flutter of owls diving through the enchanted ceiling like feathery meteors.
At the Gryffindor table, chaos had already begun.
James Potter was trying to butter toast while reading a Quidditch column over Sirius Black’s shoulder. Sirius, in turn, was stretched across the bench like a bored cat, flicking crumbs at Peter Pettigrew, who squeaked every time one hit him. Remus Lupin, composed as ever, had a book open beside his porridge, though he had not turned a page in several minutes.
Lily Evans was arguing with Marlene McKinnon about something involving Arithmancy homework, Mary Macdonald was trying to keep Fabian and Gideon Prewett from charming their pumpkin juice into exploding, and Alice Fortescue was carefully untying the ribbon from a package her mother had sent.
Frank Longbottom was the first to notice the owls arriving.
“Post,” he said, ducking as three tawny owls swooped down toward their section of the table.
Letters and parcels dropped in a flurry of parchment and feathers. One owl landed directly in front of Remus, dropping a folded newspaper onto his porridge before lifting off again.
Remus blinked down at the soggy front page.
“…Oh.”
Lily glanced over. “What is it?”
Remus carefully lifted the newspaper free, shaking porridge from its edges. The masthead of the Daily Prophet gleamed in the morning light.
“Front page,” he murmured, eyes scanning quickly—and then stopping.
His expression changed.

Dinner had been going badly for nearly everyone except Albus Dumbledore.
This was not, technically, unusual.
The Great Hall had begun the evening as it always did: four long tables, golden plates, candles drifting like lazy stars overhead, the ceiling charmed into a dusky purple-blue, and several hundred students trying to eat before somebody spilled pumpkin juice, started a duel, or made the mistake of asking James Potter whether he could catch a grape in his mouth from across the Gryffindor table.
He could not.
He had claimed he could.
Sirius Black had thrown the grape anyway.
Peter Pettigrew had ducked as if it were a Bludger.
The grape had hit Remus Lupin directly on the forehead.
Remus, without looking up from his plate, said, “I hope you both suffer artistically.”
Twenty minutes later, Dumbledore stood up at the staff table, clapped his hands once, and announced, with the terrible bright cheer of a man who had decided peace was overrated, “Tonight, I think, calls for a musical showcase.”
Silence fell.
Not the pleasant sort.
The sort where every student in the room began silently calculating whether they could fake illness fast enough to be excused.
