Underground -- Do not Take

My second Spree Show 6/29/08

Just as awesome as the last.
American Dream
Running Away
Get Up and Go
Hanging Around the Day
It's the Sun
Light to Follow
Guaranteed Nightlite
Tragiverse (YEAH. I KNOW. WHAT?!)
Younger Yesterday
Live and Let Die (cover)
The Championship

Break:
Together We're Heavy
Light and Day
Everything Starts at the Seam
When the Fool Becomes a King
Happy Birthday to Rick (violinist)
Then after Tim said his parting words he started an a capella cover of Blackbird.

The show was completely fantastic. Turned my sister into a Polyphonic Spree fan, and all was wonderful. The set, except for a few (Gauranteed, Tragiverse, and Live and Let Die, and Seam) was exactly the same as my first show. But Tim and the rest of the Spree were completely awesome and in to it last night. Amazing. There were SO many people there. This was at Summerfest here in Milwaukee, WI... not really a music festival that pulls in this type of music normally. For example Jack's Mannequin was on at the same time on another stage, and like Tim McGraw is playing later this week. ANYWAY. I was SHOCKED how many people were there to see TPS. And the security personale were getting WAY into it. Actually a couple joined during the night in the pit to watch. Major points for TPS for a supremely AWESOME show. :D

Other notes: no confetti or anything extra special tech wise. and they seemed to be having problems with the flute mic all night long. so i saw a lot of the tech guys running around in the pit.

PHOTOS: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/… (not all of them are rotated yet, and some are from other things I saw before TPS came on)

The Polyphonic Spree's latest single/video "We Crawl"

While you may have suspected that The Polyphonic Spree lived together in a commune or all shared one big bed, like The Monkees, the truth is very different as we see in their new video “We Crawl.” The video was shot giving each member of the band a video camera to shoot themselves singing the song in and around Dallas going about their daily business, sans robes or military-inspired fatigues.

The band members walk the streets, feed their kids, play their instruments and pick up their robes from the dry-cleaners, with relatively few shots where we see more than one of them at once. The song’s chorus of “Together we’re better” feels appropriate here, as we see the individual members who make up the band and hear what happens when these 23 people get together.

Short concert report for the Houston show :

There wasn't one.
I dropped the spouse off at home and went on to Bayou Place, where my parking-fu was strong indeed. I made sure the car wouldn't be towed and went up to the theatre, where I found (A) no crowd, and (B) signs on all the doors reading as follows :
Due to a flu sweeping through the Person to Person tour, The Polyphonic Spree and Rooney have been forced to cancel the Houston show November 8th at Verizon Wireless Theater. The tour will resume at The Telleyran Music Festival in Jacksonville Florida. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

Aw, damn.

Oh well - it's the Spree, so I'm trying to be positive about the whole thing...
(And I'm betting that they'll be back sometime next summer, and hopefully at the Warehouse again - I am getting to really like that place.)

(Addendum : while writing this out, I was reading the Spree forum and got a LOT more upset - they debuted a new cover a couple of days ago. "Live and Let Die". I plotz just thinking about what their arrangement might be like. I HOPEHOPEHOPE a friendly taper gets this one soon...)

my parents had the tv on in the living room today. as i walked through, i heard a familiar sound. i paused and realized that NBC was playing a snippet of "Running Away" while showing clips of NFL football. that made me happy.

?

...so I went to the 'Spree's MySpace site and noticed that everyone had updated their pictures on the "meet the Polyphonic Spree" page. I checked 'em out. They're nice.

One thing, though:

Where's Julie?

I hate to spam everyone again -- but I will -- and hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

I've posted all of the videos I can find on YouTube from the El Rey show on my blog.

Relive the experience.

X-posted per my usual.
