new movies!

i have a cold so therefore i am going to take cold medicine and watch some scary movies! fun fun! i was planning on watching 'Mirrors' (the kiefer sutherland film) but it's not out yet. so instead i'm watching the *surprise* asian film it was based on. it's called "in to the mirror". after that i am going to watch "reincarnation" which i've been meaning to watch for a long time. so expect reviews in the near future!

the legend of bloody mary

you think that a movie based on something that used to scare the crap out of kids at slumber parties might have been cool, but you'd be wrong. it's so low budget i could have made it. the shakey cameras, the terrible acting, the terrible writing, everything was pretty much terrible. i thought it sounded cool cos i did play Bloody Mary as a kid and it was fun and we'd get scared and then we'd think we'd something move. most teenage girls did (and probably still do) this. the film really wanted to be like the Ring movies. complete with long haired ghost who even appeared in a tv at one point. it was just ridiculous. maybe someone else will take the Bloody Mary game and turn it into a movie that's actually fun to watch. this one i barely made it through. like 5 mins in i knew it was going to be bad. they made up this whole back story to Bloody Mary saying she was some woman who was an adulteress and gotten pregnant and wouldn't reveal who the father was. so she the magistrate said it must be the devil's child and she was killed for heresy. when they would do the flash backs in time there was one really hot guy (the guy who was the father of her baby) but when he would talk he had an unmistakable Australian accent. and this movie is supposed to take place in New England. i ended up looking him up on imdb and he is indeed Australian. every time he talked (which luckily wasn't a lot) it would make me laugh. most of the movie takes place 4 years (?) before when the main character's sister first played the game thus unleashing Bloody Mary onto all of her friends. this could have been cool. if not cool at least somewhat decent and interesting. instead it was just crap. with bizarre music montages. and the acting. did i say it was bad? cos it was so horrible, i don't know where they got these people.

seriously. if someone would pay me at least 5g i could totally make this film and make it better. the director has only directed one other short film before this one and it was apparently the prequel to this one. what i didn't know was that there was an Urban Legend sequel about Bloody Mary that doesn't have any famous people except for one of the High School Musical kids. that probably would have been better.

so, while i support independent film making, i do not support this film. here's the trailer:

Body #19

i have found a great one today! it's from Thailand and is called "Body #19". parts of it were a little cheesy (cliche lightening crashes, exaggerated ghost woman), but the plot was really cool. it was spooky but not really scary. i only closed my eyes at one part and that's the part where the dude vomits and i only close my eyes cos i'm emetophobic. it's strange how when i'm having a bad day i can just watch some fucked up horror movie and feel better. maybe because nothing in my life is EVER as fucked up as an asian horror movie. or because i'm morbid. you decide. i have downloaded the american remake of Shutter so i'll probably watch that later and then complain about how much more awesome the original was (and the guy in the original is really hot too! i don't know who's in the american one).

anyways, here's the trailer. not in english but you'll get the idea.
