A very rare public post

If you don't know me, don't try to friend me without any kind of connection. If you know a friend of mine, that's one thing. If we have interests in common, that's another thing, too. We might well friend each other from there.

But right out of the blue?

For no reason?

Do not waste your time or mine.

LJ Content Strike on Friday 21 March

I swiped the "bold" bits from ladyoneill

In protest to the recent "fuck you, fandom" from lj, there will be a one day content strike this Friday, March 21.

Please spread the word.

I swear, if there were someplace else to go, I'd go there. I tried GreatestJournal and found nothing but grief there. I almost never even check to see if my blog is still there. One glitch after another followed by yet more. Blech. I don't want to leave LJ because (a) it's easy and (b) my friends are here.

Much more stupid censorship, though, and I don't know what I'll do. Their censorship hasn't really affected me personally. I will be supporting this strike on Friday, not because of a personal impact but because of the principle.

As someone said, if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

I'll stand for non-censorship.

Bobby Brown was R-O-B-B-E-D

Yes, I'm weird. I got hooked on "Gone Country" where seven singers (okay, six singers and one female actor) who had little to no country music experience got introduced to television's version of "real" country life and music. John Rich (of Big and Rich, a country duet) was the star and would pick the winner and then produce a single for said winner.

Dee Snider, Julio Iglesias, Jr., Bobby Brown, Sisqo (whose name needs an accent but I can't do one), Carnie Wilson, Diana DiGarma, and Maureen McCormick were the singers.

Each one co-wrote and performed a song.

John Rich reached way into "what the heck????" land and picked Julio as the winner.

I thought he had the weakest song and the weakest performance.

Bobby Brown. Dude. Wow. He surprised me as I was fully prepared to dislike him on principle. I began (gulp) to like him as a human being and his song and performance of it brought me to actual tears.

He was robbed. He SO should have won.

In case you are interested, here's a link to his performance.

Sleepless in NC?

It's now a little after 10 AM. I've been awake for over 24 hours. And I'm not even sleepy.

This is not a good thing. I'm apt to crash and burn sometime later today.

It's also rainy today. This is NOT a good thing. Rain = achy when you've got fibromyalgia.

The fibro is probably to blame for the non-sleepery, too.

This flare-up, which started the end of December, is one of the worst ones I've had in years. Every time I think it might be releasing its hold, it grips me again.

Now I think I'll go finish Tanya Huff's book, "Blood Price" and listen to ESPN. They're talking about KU's whuppin' of Texas Tech. Those Jayhawks knocked the crap outta the Red Raiders by a score of 109-51. Whew.

WHOA! Now they're talking about Brett Favre's decision to retire. Gosh. Oh gosh. There are people who retire from football after a couple of seasons; there are people you can't imagine ever retiring. Favre is one of the latter. I will miss watching him play.
thumbs up

GO HERE GET THIS -- IT IS FREEEEE!!!

From Neil Gaiman's blog:

http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2008…

The good news is the link to the free online American Gods is up on the front page of the neilgaiman.com website. The bad news is that the link is wrong.

For the next month, your free copy of American Gods is waiting for you at
http://tiny.cc/WRiXE

Feel free to spread the link as widely as possible around the web. If it works, and people read it, then a) we may be able to put up another book and b) sooner or later they'll simply let us give away the book in electronic form....

* * * *

If you haven't read American Gods, you should. And, honestly, you canNOT beat the price here! Of course, you do have to read it on the site. But, heck, you're on your computer already, right? *grin*

scary republicans by Chelle

a fine example of North Carolina Republicanism

On tonight's "Daily Show" Jon Stewart takes aim at the senate hearings with Roger Clemens.

The (insert sound of grinding teeth) Republican representative who, thank goodness is NOT my representative, Virginia Foxx (about whom I've ranted here many times), is shown asking Mr. Clemens, with a cloying smile on her face, "Would you tell us how you work hard to stay in shape?"

*beats head on every available surface*

I don't know who I actually believe in this steroid business because, let's face it, I've had injections of various kinds in the doctor's office (and let's not even think about how many I've had in hospitals, okay?) and if they tell me they're giving me a flu shot, I have to believe 'em. On the other hand, if I were an athlete and suddenly started developing muscles with muscles of their own, I would suspect that the "vitamin B-12 shot" I was getting might just be full of "funny juice."

Still, Foxx's fluttering around like an over-aged moth twittering things about "how do you stay in shape" when the hearing is about STEROIDS and HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE gives me the pip.

And, yes, this is the same woman who flung herself at Pres. Bush after his State of the Union address (last year, I think) and kissed him.

I'm so glad I never voted for her. I wish no one else ever had, either.

Hail to the Redskins

Hail to the Redskins!

Both Art Monk (at LONG last!) and Darrell Green (in his first year of eligibility) were elected to the Football Hall of Fame.

When I heard the news, I got truly emotional and broke down and cried.

My mother was such a huge fan of both of these men. If she were still here, she'd be whooping and hollering with Redskin joy.

When I finish crying, I'll do the same in her honour.
