it's kinda embarrassing when you have a fetish that has the most obvious crystal clear psychosexual explanation like okay you didn't even try with that one...
the notion that it is trauma that licenses #problematic content sets such a shitty and dangerous precedent that still puts creators in a position where they need to justify themselves. it burdens ppl into disclosing deeply personal details and trauma to defend/excuse/validate their output that in no universe are others entitled to, so i think ppl really need to let that go as the go-to defense for the inclusion of dark and taboo subject matter in fiction anyway, as much as they think it is a palatable and convincing argument
these things shouldnt be off-limits for anybody and we need to construct our arguments around that
the fact that 8pm is only 3 hours after 5pm is fucking insane. we have to do something about this.
"I want to read about characters in their 30s because they won't make stupid mistakes like teenagers do!"
Buddy I have news for you about the fun and exciting stupid mistakes made by 30somethings
Also while I'm at it, "I just can't relate to this adult character who is much younger than me and in a historical setting, or pseudo historical fantasy" is a wild complaint to me
Like yeah, if it's a book about high school or college I'm going to feel the difference more. But in a setting where you're basically just a child until you're an adult, and there aren't any steps in between to ease you into adult life? And in a story that's not a coming-of-age situation? I'm sorry; that 19-year-old has less life experience than I do, but she's just another adult to me. We are both in the nebulous category of Adult for our society, and she is perfectly relatable to me even though I'm 33
(also, smugly insisting that you're too old to make unwise decisions or have strong emotions that run away with you seems more immature than actually doing either of those things. Just my two cents)
