Did someone mention small, blonde vampires? Evangeline A.K. McDowell is absolutely my favourite character in Negima!, not just for her stupid Japanese approximation of an olde worlde name, but because who doesn't like a plot in which an immortal vampire witch is forced to attend an all girls school as punishment for her evils? Well, that's what I got out of Negima! anyhow, your mileage may vary. This is seasonal content, right? Everyone like vampire witches at this time of year, right? Bringing Evangeline to life—pun intended—in the 2018 stage play was Team S's Kitagawa Yoshino, who we are now going to sing the praises of.

Yokonyan is adorable. In the "special skills" on her profile, she lists nunchaku, and, being a hardcore Shokotan fan of old, you know that I am immediately impressed! Joining SKE in late 2016, she moved up to Team S around this time in 2017, having performed as a back-up for all three of SKE48's teams whilst still a kenkyuusei, making her the first of the group's eighth generation to do this. Despite her hard work and wide range of skills, it took until 2020 for her to make it into the senbatsu for SKE's 26th single, So~Yu~Toko Aru Yo Ne? alongside Naochan and Minarun, but once she got there, she stayed there, and she's still there, as evidenced in new single, Zettai Inspiration, which came out earlier this month, at the time of writing. It really feels to me that SKE48 has entered a new era with this—maybe that's just the absence of all the names that mean anything to me now, Kaotan, Rena, Jurina, Churi, and now Akarin also. But it's not all bad things, right! I mean Yokonyan is a force to be reckoned with, and I'm super excited to see what she does next, what SKE as a whole do next. Such is my respect for Yokonyan right now, that I'm just going to quote the whole of her introduction as it is translated on stage48:
"I will never forget this gratitude, I will not give up on anything and I will do my utmost with all of my strength!!"
Yokonyan is the shonen manga protagonist we deserve!
I feel like, for me, even though she has graduated, SKE will probably always be about Kaotan and how much I care for her—and yet I can imagine a future where I start supporting Yokonyan full time. There's so much about her to admire. Friends, I think you're watching me gain a new SKE oshi in real time here.
