yeah, i’ve actually made my art blog look nicer now (still doing some stuff), and i’ll be posting my art there from now on instead of posting it here and just reblogging it there. also i’ll be reposting my commission sheet there and deleting the one here on my main.

if you don’t follow it already, my art blog is now @justarandomidiot1 (changed the url to what i usually call myself on places lol)

I feel like I personally generally use “people of color” (or adjacent “of color” terms) if I am talking both generally and fairly colloquially. I think this happens the most if I’m talking about the demographics of a group in a more casual sense, for example: a show with performers of color. Referring to folks in my own friend group who are of varying races as “other people of color”. Generally I am using this term in conversations where race and racism are relevant but perhaps not the primary focus. Especially if what I’m really trying to center is the person/people themselves, but their race is still a necessary factor to the discussion. It’s worth noting, though, that some people just straight up don’t like these terms at all, and their reasons for feeling that way are completely understandable! If you are going to use them, please use them correctly—poc and similar terms are meant to be nouns, not adjectives. “Poc artists” or “poc women”, for example, are not things that make sense to say and they make you sound really foolish!

“Racialized” (as in racialized people, racialized authors, racialized trans people, etc) is a term that I think is very good in conversations that are about the politics of race itself and how it operates. Especially if part of what you’re trying to emphasize is the socially constructed nature of race.

And in MANY contexts, I think far more than some (often white) people realize, the best term to use is the most specific one. When I am talking explicitly about Native people, I say Native people. When the topic I am discussing is more specific to the Nahua, the Diné, the Lakota—I name those tribes. IF THE THING YOU ARE DISCUSSING PRIMARILY PERTAINS TO ANTIBLACKNESS AND AFFECTS BLACK PEOPLE, YOU NEED TO GET COMFORTABLE WITH SAYING BLACK PEOPLE. That one seems to really be a challenge for people in a way that in and of itself is deeply antiblack, whew! And so on, and so forth. Umbrella terms do have their functions, but it's important to stop and ask yourself if the topic you're trying to address is impacting or more relevant to a certain group over others.

I'm not laying out hard and fast rules, to be clear. These are contentious terms, and everybody seems to have a slightly different take on them. Which in and of itself is representative of the way racialized people are not one homogeneous demographic block, but groupings upon groupings of individuals with some shared traits and experiences and many differences as well. There are terms I also haven't mentioned here—global majority is one I know some really like.

Main conclusion: be mindful with your language, be open to the idea that some people may not agree with how you're utilizing it. Call people what they want to be called, be specific when you can. Be open to learning!

I am Hanaa, a resident of Gaza City, specifically in the northern Gaza Strip. I am 38 years old. I live with my eight children and my husband in the Gaza Strip. Before the war on Gaza began, I was living a happy life with my children and my husband. We had a monthly income that was sufficient to meet our needs and fulfill our requests. When the war on Gaza began on 10/7/2023, we lived as homeless people after our entire house was bombed at the beginning of the war. We were displaced to countless areas since the first day of the war. After more than 200 days of the war, one of my sons was martyred and two others were injured while trying to find us food to satisfy our hunger. I became fully responsible for him after my eldest son was martyred and the other two were seriously injured. My children, my husband and I live in displacement camps. We have no other shelter. For the sake of God, help me feed my children and build a home for us. Donate to me, even if it is a little, because I need your help.

I need $550, please don't ignore me please donate

Hello friends, I'm Ayoush.Unfortunately, the war hasn't ended, and neither has the suffering. We're still struggling for our most basic rights, and we're still suffering.

Here are some of the pieces I painstakingly made during the day, along with some of the remaining wool supplies I have. I really need to buy more because winter is approaching.

Unfortunately, my eyesight has deteriorated due to crocheting, and I definitely have a severe vitamin deficiency. The cost of vitamin injections exceeds $175 every week. Besides that, there are many other supplies and needs. I'm suffering greatly and need at least $550 a month just for vitamins and to get a pair of glasses so I can continue working.

Therefore, no matter how small your support is, it will help me meet many of my needs. I'm trying to provide for my basic necessities. You might not be able to donate much, but at least you can donate $20 or $35.

I am Inas, a mother of two young children: Muhammad, 7 years old, and Hala, 5 years old. They should have been living their childhood like all childrenโ€”safe and warm in the embrace of their father. But the war has stolen that dream from us๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Six months ago, my husband Anas, a kind-hearted man who endured a life of poverty, was killed by a random shell while on his way to work as a taxi driver. Since that tragic day, Iโ€™ve been left to carry the unbearable weight of life alone.

I held a diploma in international secretarial studies and was about to start a job to help support my family. But the war shattered not only our home but also my hopes and dreams. Weโ€™ve been displaced six times and now live in a tent that offers no shelter from the bitter cold or the ever-looming fear.

My young children face relentless hunger that weakens their fragile bodies and a cold that knows no mercy for their small hearts. Each day, their cries for warmth and food grow louder, and each day, I feel more helpless to provide them with even the basics of life๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I appeal to your humanity, to your compassion. We need your help to survive, to find a safe shelter, and to feed my children. Your generosity could be the reason Muhammad and Hala continue to live and find hope amidst this darkness๐Ÿฅน
