Excerpt from the wall of 3500 rules for recent returnees from abroad:

  • Self-isolate for 10 days.
  • Do not leave your house.
  • Do a home Covid test on days 2 and 8.
  • Post the Covid test from a priority post box.
  • Do not enter a post office.

Excerpt from Covid rules for everyone who lives here:

  • Do not travel more than 5 miles outside your area.

My nearest priority post box that is not inside a post office is 15 miles away. I'm trying to figure out how to get there without leaving the house.

(I lie, of course. If I were a nice little Lan I'd be trying to figure that out, and perhaps I'd expend significant spiritual energy achieving it. Being little old me, I'm going to nip down to the post office two blocks from here and pick up some groceries while I'm there.)

Those home Covid tests had to be purchased at a cost of £210 before they'd even let you travel. Someone is making nice money out of the pandemic.

I suppose in theory you could put your mail-ready covid test on your doorstep and have your neighbour (or your lodger or whoever else is conveniently handy) post it for you. But yes, in practice, many people will not stay housebound for 10 days.

i) I wanted to ask of the UK had turned into a Lan stronghold...

ii) £210?!?!?!?! What the ever bleeding f*ck for? (It should cost at most £40 a pop. And even that would be racketeering for what it is, it's basically a pregnancy test.) Jesus.

Anyway, I'm glad you're home safe and sound.

I mean depending on what the hotel is and what they do and with cleaning and stuff okay, I sort of see it. But 210 for a bit of thin layer chromatography is excessive.

You have no idea how much you are tempting me to pee on the second one.

Not sure how high the concentration of Covid is in urine, but I'm sure someone has looked at it....

Oh, bureaucracy. Contradictory rules, such fun!

Also, £210, WTF.

*hugs*

...wall of 3500 rules, indeed (hopefully without Lan sect-style penalties for breaking them, at least) ;(
What a drag, I'm sorry. Take good care and I hope the rule-ridden self-isolation goes smoothly.

Oh, great. :(((

(A minister here is being sued - or whatever, made to resign - over getting money for promoting/making a deal with certain mask companies. Yay.)
