soloThis was brought on by a couple of random comments in The Meta Post of Awesomeness, about Jin's hiatus and nobody knowing if/when he'd come back and all that. Which, well, I knew about. What I don't know... okay, here's where the pictures come in.
K-T-TUN went out to New York sometime in the winter, met with Jin, and there's a photoshoot of them in New York. And there's a separate one with Jin in New York. WTH, let me just line up exhibits A through D here so I can make this easier on myself.

So... (A) is one of those New York things I mean. (B) confuses me because it's from the CTKT pamphlet which presumably came out in April with the start of the tour. Implying that (A) was part of the offshots (and that's what jone_records has it as), but... April? So they went out to NY and did a deepest-winter photoshoot with snow to be used in a con pamphlet in April? Which is basically my first question. Did they use the offshots earlier, for some winter theme in Japan? When did these things actually come out? (The pictures as I have them have 2006.12 or 2007.01 respectively on them, so when I got them there must have been some indication that that's when they're from... I don't usually make shit up as I go along in my filing system.) The reason I'm so interested in that is that as soon as they did, fans would have known they'd been to New York (if they didn't know already, which is also something I...uh, don't know).
But I guess Jin's at least were held back until the tour, because if those photos (and are (C) and (D) they even from the same shoot? I've picked them up here and there all over the place and sometimes there's guesswork involved) had been sold earlier, that would have been deeply meaningful, and I am not picking up any comments saying that this happened.
When exactly were they out there anyway? December 06? January 07? (Back to my filenames.) Do we know? Did Koki say? And when did fans first hear about it back then? (When the photos were sold at the latest, but as I've just demonstrated, I can't quite figure out when that was, unless it was really with the concert pamphlet.)
... ponders... Somehow I have the feeling that this question is the wrong way round. Trying again...

The photos matter primarily if they were published before Jin was back (not Jin's obviously). I know that I as a fan would have been extremely interested to hear of K-T-TUN going to America at that time. ;-)
Well, okay, and my filing system would still like to know what dates to assign.

Only after Jin came back did they tell that they had indeed meet Jin in New York. And after he came back his pictures from New York were published and sold at the JE shops. Of course that did make people suspicious. So it seems they had already decided that Jin would came back when they meet in New York and the staff used the situation to take the pictures.
I bought my KAT-TUN and Jin New York shop pictures in June 2007 at the JE shop in Harajuku and some of them had already been sold out by then. And here is the proof. :D

Anyway, thank you so much. I'll be spending days exploring on that website. Thank you also for the explanations (and for being able to make sense of my incoherence in the first place). It definitely helps and my filing system thanks you, too!

Date: 2010-02-15 20:13 (UTC)I've updated the timelines a bit longer than the rest, but stopped last year and the only thing I still update is the release list. And we are not planning to delete it. I really hate that.
I still know who wrote about the suspicious fans had, when Jin's NY photos came out but she changed blogs three times since then, only posted with a password and I lost all my files and bookmarks when my computer crashed a few years back.
I can understand your obsessive heart so much, because I am like that too, as you can see from the stuff I posted at the site. :D

(Okay, as far as 24 hrs in the day allow, but I really do my very best). Translations, reports, fic, you name it. I'll be saving your timelines, too, because even if you are going to keep the website going, who knows, one day the zombies will come and I'll be holed up in a basement trying to pass the time until it's safe to come out by writing fic, and my plot will stall because I can't check when exactly this or that happened because I only have the laptop and the zombies have stomped on the router and the wifi doesn't work so I can't get on the internet to CHECK THIS VITAL FACT --- BUT I'll have all the info on my hard drive, so there, TAKE THAT, ZOMBIES!!!!
I make an insane number of backups for the same reason. Zombies, I tell you.

Date: 2010-02-15 19:00 (UTC)Yeah, I saw that, but it didn't bother me because for one, it's a question, it's not like he said 'I hear they fight a lot!'
And in the context, that question actually made sense to me: they'd just asked about inter-band jealousy anyway (implying that T-TUN might be unhappy with the prominence of Jin and Kame), so they are clearly thinking in terms of guys wanting to be noticed and 'top dog', so to speak.
So then they hear that Jin and Kame are considered by pretty much everybody to be the main stars of KAT-TUN, and I think it's normal that they might wonder if either of them doesn't want to be the SOLE star. That they'd simply assume that there would be rivalry. At least that's the impression I got of the mindset right from the moment when they asked about jealousy in general.
I think in show business it's even understandable to think like that, because advancement depends on a hearty degree of self promotion. I don't read more into their question than that: they know how it works, they're probably ambitious guys themselves, so this sort of question is kind of obvious.

And it's sorta strange why they chose NYC (ok maybe LA would be a bit too obvious)
but yeah....i'm not sure if it mattered when the photos were released cuz everybody knew that they'd been in NYC and probably to meet with jin.
I do remember knowing that jin had a friend in upstate new york and him visiting a lot so i sorta associated him with ny anyways xD
