holy fucking shit this is absolutely incredible. cant believe how far you're pushing renpy with this, the cinematography is gorgeous, and i just gotta know what happens next!!!! will be waiting with bated breath

I envy the approach taken in this game. Its grammar is of film, most prominently seen in the shot reverse shot interactions between the two characters. The shaders playing with opacity remind me of how silent films intersperse characters and background to create a visual that is more than the sum of its parts. And the way the game “documents” the corridors, the passages, the open spaces, the closed spaces, and the architecture the two protagonists traverse reminds me of the visual novel “documentary” I’d like to make: just two characters walking to the humming of the city.

Looking forward to the game’s completion.

actually in awe at this. a tour de force of a visual novel, and it's only a demo right now. you've sold me hook, line, and sinker for the full game.

a lot of people have praised the presentation, and you can add me to the list. you've pushed ren'py to its absolute limits. several times, i was like "holy shit, i didn't know you could DO that in the engine"... or if i did have an idea of how you set up a scene, it was handled in such a clever way that it felt fresh and novel. every part of this game is drenched in the language of live film, of photography, so whenever the scene presentation changed ,it didn't feel jarring. i am taking notes from you all for my own work. well done.

that's not even getting into the story. i already have a good sense of how  rill and ruby tick, and how they bounce off of each other as characters... but you also made it clear where they might fall apart with each other. (namely the scene where rill talks to ruby about her full name. when ruby said "yeah, i like your nickname more", the connotations of that statement made me go "oh no")

and then, there's the setting — which i'd argue is a character in of itself. a walled, sprawling, urban mass filled with rotting husks of past infrastructures — train stations, switchboards, offices. the descriptions of the school that rill and ruby went to reminded me of the begich towers condominium in alaska, where everyone lives, goes to school, gets groceries, et cetera. that, plus the more supernatural elements rill comes in contact with feels like an american response to roadside picnic and its creative children.

cannot state enough how excited i am for the full release. fantastic work, everyone.

Genuinely some of the most inspired, beautiful, and personally affecting art I have literally ever seen. The different forms that the UI take, and the little changes in font and position of text fascinated me and spoke volumes about the scene itself. Also, the way observations about the surroundings were a form of lore dump about the world themselves was absolutely amazing. (I've never felt so seen as someone who loves reading into the history of architecture, and public facing objects.) Also, Yuri!!! I can't wait for whatever comes next!!!

Truly special visual presentation. I’m going to replay it just to take notes on this. Beautiful, so clearly filled with love for the medium of film. I loved the options menu as well. If I can drop one small criticism, I think the lofty prose gets lost in itself sometimes. Maybe even undermines the story’s pacing a little, given how visually stimulating it already is. But I still can’t wait to see these girls again.

Loved every second of it - gorgeous art... <3

the part where rill and ruby discuss rill's real name really got me. honestly all the sections about how the two of them might never truly understand each other; especially that one moment where rill pauses about how the people outside the city aren't like ruby, and there's this acknowledged moment there is no we.

i think the entire team did a crazy good job putting all of this together. as others have said, the art and programming that went into this are Stunning. i am very excited for the rest of the game! :)

Absolutely astounding demo. I think it totally warrants invoking House of Leaves at the start. The way you position text, the different framing of the images, and the way you emulate a number of different media presentations is simply captivating. But I’m most appreciative of how it folds into your narrative; the various audiovisual technologies our two leads interact with, Rill’s preoccupation with the perception of herself and others, the way the landscape itself is memorabilia.

Our leads are very charming, you do a great job of selling their relationship quickly. Rill gets most of the depth and complexity as the POV character, here’s hoping we get more Ruby down the line (especially not filtered by Rill’s memories and image of her). The worldbuilding is also intriguing, the city is a real character, maybe the crown of the bunch, and I’m infinitely curious regarding Rain’s explanation of it and her workplace, alongside the shapeless.

I think the television segment is the best of the best. It fits in nostalgia and dread, warmth and loss, connection and memory, all behind a clear (unclear) image. Patiently anticipating the full release, with a whole lot of excitement!

Amazing game~

first off, how many organs did you sell to get renpy to do all that.

Really interesting concept, and I'd definitely be interested to see where this goes! The amount of polish is stunning for a jam game, and the way the narration and visual presentation comes in and grabs you is fantastic - the visuals and prose are very cohesive. Wishing the team luck for developing the future acts!

Such an incredible piece of art. I am quite a novice reader so I had some difficulty following the story but the exceptional cinematic direction kept me hooked the entire time. Truly nothing short of a visual masterpiece!

Astounding. I've been reading/experiencing all manner of visual novels and things adjacent for some ~15 years and I can't recall the last time I was left this awed by a production. There's an uncanny, almost intoxicating lightning in the writing and a fire in its fusion with whatever unholy sorcery you folks are wielding in your Ren'Py stagecraft.

I'll be doing what I can to bring eyes on this.

this is such an amazing game. i was floored by the visuals and presentation. my jaw dropped when i saw the pause menu it's so perfectly customized. and i was so surprised when the horror twist happened i wasn't expecting it at all. playing this makes me so excited for the full game

this is such an incredible technical and conceptual achievement. wonderful visuals and worldbuilding. i'm excited to see the rest!

hoooolllyyyy shiiiiitttttttt, came across this project a while ago on twitter before the demo was released, played it immediately as soon as i had the time after I saw it was out. It's incredible, it exceeded everything I was expecting from it, the art is gorgeous, it blends so so well with the photo backgrounds the whole vibe is immaculate, the writing is amazing and the programming is genuinely driving me crazy it's blowing my mind with everything it does, it just kept surprising me, I actually jumped in my seat at some point, I absolutely cannot wait for more of this game I'm crazy excited !!!!!!!

(+3)

Truly incredible, it has so many things I love all in one and I can't wait to continue!

the fucking goats

(+3)

such an immense amount of talent on display across the board. how did you guys make this in a month? love how classy and self-indulgently imagistic the writing is to match it being about photography, love the strong sense of space and history the photos give, and i just about lost my mind every time the game tagged in a new cinematic technique/homage. so thematically cogent. great work.

(+3)

How the hell is this y'all's first project I would've expected something of this quality from a studio with years of experience. I'm sharing this with everyone the people need to know. I'm so scared for what's in store next!

(+3)

Really good tech demo at hand. Looking massively forward to the finished product. Worried for miss Rill... I hope the About function will be made functional, so we can see the amazing minds behind this piece.

(+3)

For the credits, I was able to find them in the pause menu.

Absolutely incredible. Beautifully stunning, amazing writing that really put the novel in visual novel, and so atmospheric in every  way possible! So unique, an incredible read. I love Ruby so much! Rill too, but Ruby just fascinates me... I adore this world, will 100% play the full game!

Fantastically made demo. Amazing writing backed up with stunning and wholly unique visuals made for a really fun read. I love these two girls with all my heart already, I will surely be there for whenever the full game releases. And oh my god that opening, I want to listen to that on my phone all day long.
