Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection... Problems

Well, it turns out that the Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection isn't as great as it seemed. Luckily, I still have my original copies of the games and hopefully you do too. Sorry to anyone I may have mislead with my previous excitement! Clearly, I didn't mean to.

Good:
-It appears that Metal Gear Solid 2 is the Substance version and is intact.

Bad:
-Metal Gear Solid doesn't include the VR Missions disc nor is it like the Japanese Integral version, it seems.
-No inclusion of The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2.
-Metal Gear Solid 3 doesn't include disc 2 or 3. (So the MSX games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and some extra modes are missing!)

Just a heads up. If you're new to Metal Gear then instead of the Essential Collection I suggest you look for...
-Metal Gear Solid
-Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions (aka Special Missions in the PAL regions)
-Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
-The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2
-Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence

...not to mention the other Metal Gear games the pack didn't begin to include in the first place!

Hope this post helps some people!

P.S. I acquired Metal Gear Solid Mobile for my mobile device today and it looks pretty cool! (I have Verizon and your service may vary.) It seems to be a non-canonical spin-off of sorts rather than a remake of any of the existing games.

For those of you who might not know...

For those of you who might not know, if you have the North American release of MGS3 Subsistence you will need important codec frequency information for the MSX games not included in the games' manual so view the FAQs here...
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/mgo/u…
or here...
http://rapidshare.com/files/861720… (A backup of just the MG & MG2SS FAQs)

Additionaly, I've updated my Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake MSX Versions (for Windows) to v13...
New/updated in this release (v13):
1. Replaced the tap code chart with a list of codec frequencies. (Based on the “MGS3 SUBSISTENCE ONLINE SUPPORT SITE” FAQs)
2. Renamed the filename of the controls text file to “Controls.txt”.

Enjoy!

Mobile Phone Version of Metal Gear

Today, I found that the mobile phone version (the MSX version with added features and tweaks) of the first Metal Gear is now available here in the US. My carrier is Verizon and I don't know what other carriers have, or will have, the game available. Additionally, it's possible this means the US will also receive the mobile phone version of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake! Look out for it!

I already have the MSX Metal Gear games with my copy of MGS3 Subsistence (The Subsistence versions of the games are based off of the enhanced mobile phone versions), and emulated via PC, PSP, etc. but it's nice to have yet another platform to play Metal Gear on!

FOXHOUND

Fox unit and MPO

I'm in an odd situation here, so bear with me.

as some may recall, I have a black-and-white FOXHOUND patch tattooed on my left shoulder. It was my intent to get a matching Fox unit tattoo on the opposite end.

Big Boss is by far my favorite character in MGS mythos; to me, FOXHOUND is a sort of representation of the rise and fall of his patriotism and idealism, and the eventual 'corruption' that would make him a villain. I am a firm believer in the subjective and very grey-area nature of right and wrong, and that's why I love the story in Snake Eater; it shows a how and why behind what is otherwise a two-dimensional antagonist, and makes him a genuinely human character.

But now, with Portable Ops out, the Fox unit has some other role in the story. I don't have a PSP or any real means of getting through the ame, so I don't understand what happens. What is the goal in the Fox unit's rebellion? Where IS Major Zero? What's the point of all of these boss characters?

I really don't want to get a tattoo of something that has far more background than I understand, especially if it boils down to them just being crazy bastards. I know I'm asking for serious analysis, but I'm hoping somebody can share some insight with me.

xposted to a couple communities, apologies in advance.

The End's early death.

Good morning all.

Having only been playing MGS3 for a few months, I am new to this community.

I'm currently going through the game for the second time, and feel quite pleased with myself for just having killed The End early in the game, so I don't have to face him in a set battle later on.

I regard the set battles with the Cobra characters as a bore, and would rather sneak about and kill guards. One particularly dull section is that in which The Sorrow goads Snake, accompanied by the spirits of characters and guards he has killed. A silly waste of time.

And as for EVA and her flirtatiousness, I'm a red-blooded male but it gets in the way of perfectly good gameplay. She is a waste of time too, and would have been a much more interesting character without trying to be sexy. Is the next MGS game set in New Orleans? That way, Kojima can pack in even more gratuitous T&A, the wanker.

Well, I've made my point. If you are all so keen on this game, you probably already know how to bump off The End outside the Ponizovje warehouse, but, if not, I'll tell you.
