ACTUAL SMASH BROS DISCUSSION
Today we got a metric crapton (one metric crapton being equivalent to roughly one hella in the imperial system) of Smash Bros 4 news! New fighters! New stages! New moves! New items! Sakurai forgetting his lines and pausing for hilarious lengths!
So here we can discuss where this information will lead, and toss out our wants, don't wants, thoughts, and banana peels.
Spoilers abound!

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

Re: WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
By turning off items and having just a flat stage with no features, it becomes more like a traditional fighting game. Having items, and having stages with extra stuff going on, adds in randomness and the element of chance that competitive players hate, especially when cash prizes for tournaments are on the line. Taking those things out means skill is the only deciding factor in a match. And that's when you get to things like tier lists and that sort of thing.
Everyday players probably won't care about it. I personally will probably not touch it. But I understand why For Glory mode exists: because they want the new game to be viable for fighting game tournaments like EVO.
Speaking of EVO, Melee is still being played competitively, while Brawl never made it to that point. And you can see the desire to change that influencing all sorts of decisions being made in this game, like the tweaks made to certain characters to rebalance them, making alternate forms into separate characters, removing tripping, and speeding gameplay up closer to how it was in Melee.

Everyone plays the game differently. And Nintendo is finally acknowledging the desires of people who want to play Smash Bros. as a legitimate one on one fighter.

That being said, I do hate playing Smash competitively because it is rather joyless (fox final destination no items is circlejerking at its finest, but all characters final destination no items is a lot more fun) but this mode is a long time coming. Nintendo and Sakurai have pointedly refused to acknowledge any sort of competitive scene for Smash until relatively recently and to have these different mode shows that Nintendo is listening to its fanbase, all aspects of it.

Also, considering what they have done with other returning characters? I almost feel like they're tinkering with their moveset and such since they've made big and small changes.

Hell, with Zelda in mind and the release of A Link Between Worlds? How about Hilda, with moves in relation to the painting-esque themes?
If that were even an assist trophy, I think that would be hella sweet.
