Inspired by some photographer friends, I've picked up my camera again and I've been having a lot of fun with it lately. Unfortunately, it seems to have fallen victim to the Canon IXUS shutter sticking problem. It's mostly working but I'm not sure how long that will last. K's camera had this back in June when we were at
danger_chick's wedding, and there's really not much you can do if the camera's out of warranty. So I probably need a new camera.
My current camera is a Canon Powershot A95 that I bought back in 2005. It's on the large size for a point-and-shoot, but still almost pocket-size. I love the flip-out LCD. I use the macro lens and night shot modes often, the full manual mode not so often. I mostly take pictures outdoors, lots of nature stuff. Also some cute kid photos of adorable nephews. Since we've had two Canon point-and-shoots flake out within 6 months, I'm reluctant to buy another one.
I'm kind of torn between getting another compact camera with manual mode etc. and getting an SLR. The technical advantages of the SLR are obvious, and it would be the better camera to have if I got around to taking a photo class in the spring (K is strongly encouraging me to do this, much like I had to kick her ass to get her to sign up for pottery classes on which she's now hooked). My only concern is that having a bigger camera will mean I have to make more of an effort to take it with me. If I do get an SLR, it will probably be one of the entry-level Canons or Nikons.
ETA: On second thought, maybe I should save a ton of $ and get a
Fuji Instax instead. My Flickr output would go way down, but the refrigerator door would look awesome.
For the photographically-inclined among you, what are you shooting with and how do you like it?
