Prompt 16 - Camp

“I’m sorry, what?!” Remus said in disbelief.

“Erm, nothing. Forget it, stupid thing to say. Wasn’t thinking,” Sirius laughed nervously, extracting himself from Remus’s arms and pouring the freshly boiled water into the waiting mugs.

“Sirius,” Remus said gently.

“No, seriously, forget I said anything. We should go over to James’s. You can see Lily then, and if we camp out there long enough, he’ll feed us,” Sirius babbled, nodding to himself as he squeezed the teabags against the inside of the mugs before pouring milk in for Remus and leaving his black. Remus rolled his eyes and put a hand over Sirius’s, stilling his frantic stirring that would crack the mug if he continued.

“Sirius, it’s too soon for that, but I wouldn’t say no to a sleepover.”

Sirius's face lit up as he turned to face Remus again.

“Yeah?”

“Yes, of course, though I think we should get a takeaway rather than go over to James’s. I feel the ribbing we’ll get from them isn’t worth it for free food.”

“Deal! Plus, my TV is better than his, so Chinese and a film?”

“Perfect,” Remus smiled, his eyes crinkling and his cheeks reddening as he leaned in and kissed Sirius. He was definitely falling in love with him. He just hoped that Sirius was falling in love with him too, because he wasn’t sure how he’d cope with a broken heart.

Prompt 16 - Best

@jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic August 16, Word count 912

“Night,” Evan said, waving as Reg led him next door. James left them to it. Evan was still a bit unsure of him, and he needed his friend right now.

“Midnight!” James yelled after the cat as it whipped around James’s legs and ran after Reg and Evan. He didn’t come back with Reg when he came back to his flat, and James assumed he’d decided Evan needed him more than they did.

They slept peacefully that night without a furry little pest wriggling around between them.

James got up before Reg, as usual, and decided to make a start on breakfast. He’d decided on pancakes, because pancakes for breakfast always cheered him up. He was just about ready to cook them, having already cut up fruit, melted chocolate, whipped cream, juiced a few lemons, and put the bowl of sugar within easy reach.

“Reg, love?” He whispered, beside Reg’s ear.

“Mmm,” Reg grumbled, swatting at James to make him go away.

“Love, I’m making pancakes, wanna get up?”

Reg bolted upright so fast that he nearly cracked his forehead against James’s.

“Pancakes!”

“Yup. I’m just going to see if Evan wants any. You get up, and I’ll start cooking them.” He didn’t need to tell Reg twice; his boyfriend was up and pulling on a dressing gown before James had even fully stood up.

James knocked on his own front door; a strange notion, but he shrugged it off. Evan opened the door, his eyes sleepy and his hair a soft, wavy mess.

“Oh, sorry, do you want me out? Give me five minutes, and I’ll be out of your hair.”

James couldn’t help but smile at his boyfriend’s best friend.

“Actually, I was going to ask if you liked pancakes?”

“Pancakes!” Evan’s face lit up exactly like Reg’s.

“I’m about to start cooking them if you want some.”

“Er, let me—I mean, yes, of course. I just need to get dressed first.”

“Both Reg and I are in dressing gowns. There’s a spare one on the back of the bathroom door if you want?”

Evan’s face crumpled as he burst into tears.

“Shit. Sorry,” he gasped, wiping his eyes furiously with the back of his hands. “I just can’t believe how nice you’re being to me, especially after the horrible thing I did to Reg and after. You should be doing everything in your power to keep me away from him, but instead you’re making me pancakes. Are you mad?”

James sighed and smiled down at Evan.

“Do you really think Reg would let me get away with that? Reg does what Reg wants, which I’m sure you know, and I love that about him. I love him, and if fixing things with you and Barty is what makes him happy, then who am I to stop him? Don’t you think it would be easier if we all got on?”

Evan nodded, then his shoulders slumped.

“You love him?” he asked in a quiet voice.

“I do. Very much, and he loves me,” James added, not sure if Evan had realised that or not.

“I’m glad. He deserves someone like you. He deserves someone who loves him for him and who isn’t going to…to…” Evan shook his head, unable to go on.

"You deserve someone who loves you too, Evan.”

“I’ve only ever loved one person, and look how that turned out,” Evan scoffed. “No, what I need right now is to be alone. I don’t need to start dating anyone, especially with what’s going on with Pandora. My father is going to be watching me like a hawk when he finds out.”

James nodded, accepting Evan’s reasoning, but secretly hoping Mr Right would come along and whisk him off his feet.

“Well, I’d better start making those pancakes or Reg is going to hold me at whisk point,” James laughed and left Evan to get ready.

He had three pans going so they could all have one at around the same time, and he’d just finished the first batch – not a single one burnt – when there was a knock at the door. He and Reg reached it at the same time, opening it to find someone who was not Evan.

“Barty?” Reg said in confusion.

“Hi, sorry, Effie sent me over with these.” He held up a box filled to the brim with rocky road.

“Right, er, thanks,” Reg said, snatching the box out of Barty’s hands, his eyes darting nervously down the corridor. Barty sniffed the air.

“Are you making pancakes?” he asked almost hopefully.

“Erm,” Reg said, looking to James for help just as the door a few feet away opened, and Evan emerged with Midnight in his arms.

“Evan?” Barty gasped. Evan’s eyes shot up to stare at Barty’s face.

“Barty,” Evan stammered, his arms tightening around Midnight.

“What are you doing here?” they said in unison.

“Oh, for fucks sake!” Reg snapped. “Get in here!” And he grabbed Barty by the collar, dragged him inside, then came back for Evan, who walked in without needing to be manhandled. James thought that the fact that he was still holding Midnight might have been the reason for Reg’s restraint.

“Sit down. Shut up and eat,” Reg ordered, and they obeyed, James getting out another frying pan and adding it to the collection on the stove as he started pouring batter into them. This was going to be a far more intense breakfast than he’d imagined.

Rain • word count: 487

Everyone knew you didn’t touch Remus Lupin. It wasn’t an unofficial Hogwarts rule, obviously, but it might as well have been official.

Nobody knew exactly when it had started. First year, probably. By sixth year, everyone simply knew: you don’t touch RJ Lupin.

So when it happened one rainy afternoon, nobody quite knew what to do with themselves. Remus was asleep in the common room, curled up comfortably in the window seat, his head resting against none other than Sirius Black’s shoulder, rain streaking down the glass beside them.

The entire room stared, some slack-jawed, others just straight-up baffled. No, baffled didn’t even begin to cover the expressions on their faces.

“Is anyone else seeing this?” someone whispered.

“Seeing what?”

“Remus.”

“And?”

“Black is touching him.”

Then Remus shifted in his sleep, nuzzling comfortably into the crook of Sirius’ neck. A collective realization seemed to dawn across the room.

“Oh.”

It was almost eerie how unanimously they said it.

And somehow, that was only the beginning. After that, it became strangely normal. Sirius fixing Remus’ crooked tie before class. Brushing his hair aside when it falls onto his eyes. Resting a hand on the back of Remus’ neck as they walked through the corridors. Stealing Remus’ scarf and then wrapping it around him properly when he noticed Remus shivering.

And most noticeable was, Sirius Black, the notorious flirt and the serial heartbreaker, apparently forgot other girls existed. He was always looking at Remus. Always smiling at him with this completely ridiculous, hopelessly whipped expression. If the word ‘downbad’ existed then it would be perfectly described as such.

“Black,” James, his best friend had finally said one morning, “you know people can see you staring, right?”

Didn’t seem to bother Sirius at all. “So?” he said and continued staring, Didn’t even blink, didn’t look away.

“You are completely whipped, mate,” James teased. And that, of course, only encouraged everyone else to start too. Soon everyone was teasing them.

“So, Lupin,” someone teased, “you and Black?”

“So only Sirius can touch you huh?” another added.

“Finally admitted it, have you?”

It was endless. The teasing and the catcalling they got every time they held hands.

“Merlin, they're actually disgusting.”

“Lupin, blink twice if you need rescuing.”

And the best part was Remus' reaction to all of it. His ears went bright red almost instantly. He would look determinedly down at his book, despite having stopped turning the pages several minutes ago. When someone whistled at them, he cleared his throat and pulled his sleeve over his hand.

“Look at him!” James would taunt. “He's gone scarlet!”

“Shut up,” Remus would mutter sometimes, but there was absolutely no heat behind it.

And Sirius simply grinned.

Neither of them ever denied it. Their dating rumors, that is.  And after a while, nobody asked anymore.

It was simply understood. Nobody touched Moony. Ever.

Well… Except Sirius.

Sirius could touch him all he wanted.

Prompt 15 - Exeception

@jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic August 15, Word count 291

“I can’t, Reg, I can’t!” Evan sobbed against Reg’s shoulder. “How am I supposed to deal with my father? Pandora was the only thing stopping him from marrying me off in the hopes of me creating a male heir. I can’t marry a woman, Reg, with the exception of Dorcas, but we both know no kids would come of it, and father would just make me divorce her, and I just can’t marry a woman, Reg!”

“Then don’t,” Reg said plainly. “You know why Panda’s moving on. He nearly squandered everything, and we both know that without her, he’d have lost everything, but then he never acknowledges her insanely hard work. I’m surprised she didn’t leave sooner.”

James chewed his lip. While he enjoyed Reg’s bluntness, sometimes a more careful tone was called for, but when Evan pulled back from Reg and started wiping his eyes and nodding, James remembered that Reg and Evan were old friends and that Evan was probably used to it.

Reg caught James’s eye and gave him a sad look.

“Hey, Evan?” James said, taking his cue from Reg.

“Sorry, you’ll want to be getting on with your evening,” Evan sniffled. “I’ll go, sorry.”

“No, what I was going to say was, would you like to stay for dinner and maybe stay over in the spare room?”

Evan blinked up at him with wet lashes in pure confusion.

“This place only has one room,” he said, looking at Reg for confirmation.

“Yes, but James owns the flat next door, and that is currently empty. It’s yours if you want it,” Reg said, shrugging.

“Are you sure?”

“We wouldn’t be asking if we weren’t,” James told him, and Evan’s lip started quivering all over again.

“Thank you.”

Prompt 15 - Beach

@wolfstarmicrofic August 15, word count 369

The inside of Sirius’s home wasn’t what Remus had imagined at all. The hallway was a warm, welcoming yellow, with small white picture frames encasing dried flowers dotted along the wall. The living room felt warm and cosy, with a crochet blanket over the sofa and both armchairs, stacks of books on the coffee table and a series of pictures of Sirius, James, Peter and who he assumed were Mr and Mrs Potter on the wall above the fireplace; the biggest being one of him, James and Mr and Mrs Potter lazing about on the beach, each with sand mermaid tails and their heads thrown back in laughter. It was beautiful.

The kitchen was spotless. Obsessively so. It was so clean that Remus could see his reflection in the floor tiles.

“Tea? Coffee?” Sirius asked, back to wringing his hands.

“Tea, please,” Remus said, smiling a soft smile at him. Sirius nodded and turned to busy himself at the kettle.

Remus wandered over to the back door and looked out onto the beautifully manicured garden.

“You have a pool?!”

“Erm, yeah. It came with the house, though,” Sirius said, sounding a bit self-conscious.

Remus spun round with his hands on his hips, his eyes narrowed.

“You had a pool this entire time and kept it from me?”

“Pete’s got a hot tub.”

“Oh, my Gods! And let me guess, James has a fire pit where you roast marshmallows and reminisce about the good old times?”

“Erm, actually, yes.”

Remus started laughing. This was too much. How was he hanging out with people who not only had gardens in London, but ones big enough to house swimming pools?!

“I literally have a washing-up tub that I put cold water in when the flat gets too hot, and I need to soak my feet to cool off,” Remus told him.

“Well, now you can come over and relax in the pool,” Sirius said hopefully.

Remus shook his head, rolled his eyes, then moved to Sirius’s side and hugged him tightly.

“I might never leave,” he warned.

Sirius turned in his arms and tilted his head until he could see directly into Remus’s eyes, his body shaking slightly with nerves.

“Then don’t.”

James has been staring at the ceiling in complete silence since Regulus pulled out. It’s starting to make him nervous.

Maybe James doesn’t like bottoming. He certainly came hard enough—blacked out for a few moments, it seemed—but maybe the impersonality of the strap didn’t sit well with him.

Maybe it was the role reversal, him clinging desperately and sobbing into Regulus’s throat as he was taken apart for the first time.

Maybe it was—

“Reg?”

Regulus snaps to look. “Yeah? Hi. Yes. You alright?”

“Yeah,” James breathes. He licks his lips and swallows. “Yeah. I was just… well, I was just wondering if… if we could maybe do it like that all the time?”

Regulus would do it again right now if he thought James could survive it.

“You’re just saying that because I did all the work,” he mutters, and turns his head away to grin into his bicep.

Propmt 14 - Fan

@wolfstarmicrofic August 14, word count 211

Sirius’s palms were sweating. He was sure Remus could feel how clammy they had become. They were almost at his house now, just a few more houses to go, and then he’d be inviting Remus inside. Gods, he was sweating. He needed a fan like right now!

“Why are you so nervous?” Remus asked, squeezing his wet hand. “Are you a secret hoarder or something?”

“What? No! It’s just, I’ve never had anyone but James, Peter and James’s parents over.”

Remus dropped his hand and hugged him, and suddenly Sirius felt so much better. With a new spring in his step, he wiped his hands on his jeans, took Remus’s hand again and all but dragged him to his front door.

“Aww, look, he’s bringing his boyfriend home!” James shouted from his living room window.

“We’re so proud!” Peter called from his kitchen window, gently dabbing his eyes with his handkerchief.

“Oi, oi, lover boys! Keep those windows closed; we do not need to hear Remus’s screams of pleasure this fine afternoon!” Lily bellowed from her bedroom window.

“I hate the lot of you!” Sirius shouted at them, stomping his foot like a petulant child and slamming the front door on their laughter as soon as he and Remus were inside.

Prompt 14 - Flawless

@jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic August 14, Word count 216

Evan pulled out his phone and walked out onto the balcony, closing the door behind him.

“James,” Reg said through gritted teeth.

“How was I supposed to know that he had no idea his sister was looking for another job?”

Midnight hopped down from the sofa with flawless grace and padded over to the balcony, pawing at the glass and meowing mournfully at Evan.

“Tiny traitor,” Reg hissed.

“Why wouldn’t you tell me, Pan?… That’s not the point!… I thought I meant more to you than that… How can you leave me?…”

James and Reg moved to the kitchen, giving Evan his space.

“He came around to give Midnight a new toy he’d bought for him,” Reg sighed, crossing his arms protectively across his chest.

“I am sorry,” James told him. Reg let out a loud sigh and then moved until he could drop his head against James’s chest.

“I know you didn’t mean it to be mean.”

The sound of the balcony door opening and the increase in Midnight’s meowing pulled them apart, and they returned to the living room.

Evan’s jaw quivered, and to James’s utter surprise, Reg opened his arms to Evan, and Evan ran right into them, sobbing his heart out.

“She’s leaving me to him. What am I going to do?”

Pandora refused to leave Regulus’ side, she kept blaming herself over and over again for him getting lost. No matter how many times Regulus assured her it was okay, she would shake her head and beg for his forgiveness.

“Dora, it’s fine, it wasn’t your fault. I’m the idiot that threw a hissy fit and wandered off into the woods.”

“But you wouldn’t have left if I hadn’t of been such an awful friend. Evan is rightly livid with me and you should be too.” Pandora continued to sob.

Regulus sighed with resignation. “Dora, I’ll speak to Evan, he shouldn’t be mad at you.”

“Come on, babe.” Lily pulled Pandora to her feet before she could speak again. “Let’s leave Regulus to eat and get some rest.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“Yes, Dora, I’ll be fine.” Regulus tried to reassure her again, keeping his tone calm and warm.

“Alright.” She leaned down and kissed his head. “You.” She rounded on James, who was just walking in with a steaming bowl on a tray.

“What did I do?” James looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and it made Regulus and Lily laugh.

“You had better look after him, or I’ll set my brother and his mad boyfriend on you.” Pandora threatened, with as much venom as a kitten, but it was sweet that she tried.

“I would hold my hands up to swear, but I don’t want to drop the tray.” James was trying to hide his smile, but Regulus could see his lips ever so slightly pulling up and he had to hide his own by chewing on his lip. “I promise to look after him, Pan. Dinner and then straight to bed.”

“But,” Regulus interrupted.

“No, no buts. Harry is going back to Lily’s and I’ve already called Minerva to let her know we’ll both be off tomorrow.” James told him matter of factly. “You need your rest and I’m going to ensure that happens.”

“James is right, Reg.” Lily smiled warmly at him.  “You need to rest so you don’t get sick, so take the day.” She squeezed his shoulder like they were old friends and something warm bloomed his chest. Lily let go and leaned out into the hallway. “HARRY!” She bellowed in the direction of the stairs.

Regulus jumped so hard he nearly knocked the tray out of James’ arms. James managed to hold on but the spoon was sent flying to the floor and the soup splashed across the tray, narrowly missing James’ shirt.

“Jesus, Lil!” James put the tray down on the end table and glared at Lily. “You nearly got me scolded with soup!”

“Sorry.” Lily half heartedly apologised as she ducked back into the living room. “But I know what that little toerag is like for not hearing his name.”

They didn’t have to wait long for Harry to slink into the room, a bag over his shoulder. “I’m ready.” He mumbled and then saw Regulus. “Hello, sir. I hope you’re feeling better.” It was said so quietly, it was almost missed.

Everyone froze as Harry addressed Regulus and Regulus blinked in shock a couple of times before responding.

“Um, yes, thank you, Harry. I will be after I’ve had something to eat.” Harry smiled shyly at him and Regulus felt encouraged marginally. “And, you don’t have to call me sir outside of school. You can call me Regulus, or Reg, if you prefer.”

“Oh, erm, thank you.” Harry looked like he had swallowed a bug at the thought of using his teachers first name, but he was at least speaking to him unprompted and Regulus would take the win.

“Right, come on, Harry, let’s get going.” Lily said as she waved bye to both James and Regulus.

“Alright. Bye, dad.”

“See you tomorrow, Haz.” James hugged his son and Harry gave Regulus another shy, half smile.

“Bye, Ss…erm, bye.” Harry went bright red as he scarpered out after his mum.

Pandora pulled him into one last hug and whispered quietly into his ear. “I really am sorry, Reggie.”

Regulus squeezed back just as tightly and whispered too. “I know. Love you.”

“Love you.” Came the whispered reply and then she was gone.

James came back into the room with a fresh spoon and, bringing the tray with him, sat down next to Regulus.

“You still hungry?” James asked with a slightly worried look, as he placed the tray on his lap.

“Me? Never.” Regulus smirked and James laughed. “The soup smells delicious, James, thank you.”

“Don’t need to thank me.” James placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. “I’m going to get the kettle on whilst you eat.”

“And then will you fill me on what happened after I left?”

James sighed heavily. “Yes, love. But you have to promise not to kill Barty and you have to also promise to not let Evan kill me.”

Regulus pretended to consider his options before answering. “I’ll withhold judgement for now.”

James let out a large laugh. “Good enough. Now, eat up.”

James went into the kitchen and Regulus did as he was told. Soup had never tasted so good.

The front door opens, footsteps approach the kitchen, and a very familiar voice says, “Don’t tell Mum and Dad.”

Regulus pauses his kneading. He thinks of a thousand mishaps, knowing James’s son. Another broken broom. Another warning from the village patrol. Another window put through with a quaffle.

He turns and wishes it were any of those things. All of them at once would be easier to explain than the sight standing before him.

“Hello, Uncle Regulus,” Draco says, all pureblood politesse and crisp tailoring.

Harry looks as if he might be sick. “Please don’t call him that,” he begs under his breath.

Regulus can’t help but share the sentiment. He’s never felt older. Every reminder of how much his children have grown puts another grey hair on his head.

His gaze snaps down to the boys’ hands, tangled loosely between them. Harry’s grip tightens.

“We’re only cousins by marriage,” Harry says, and Regulus has to stifle a manic giggle.

Well. A Black after all.

His mouth works—oh, he hates to be blindsided—but he eventually settles on, “Welcome to our home, Draco. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you. You look well. Will you be staying for lunch?”

The boys share a glance.

“Er,” Harry says. “Can he?”

“Does Narcissa know where you are?”

Draco’s expression does not change. “Of course,” he lies.

The sheer fucking cheek of them both. Regulus almost smiles.

“Then I don’t see why not,” he says graciously. “Your father polished the brooms yesterday. I’ll call you in when everything’s ready.”

They don’t move.

Harry clears his throat. “Actually, Papa, I was thinking of showing him—”

“I’ll call you in when everything’s ready,” Regulus repeats, turning back to the floured worktop. “It’s a lovely day for flying.”

To his relief and surprise, Harry doesn’t argue. He only mutters, “c’mon, then,” and leads Draco out into the back garden by the hand. There’s some satisfaction in seeing him pick his battles. Nurture prevails over nature yet again.

Well.

Not entirely.

“Quickquill,” Regulus calls over his shoulder. The quill, usually reserved for silly little notes and shopping lists, perks up from its place among the stationery. It’s as if the thing can sense drama.

“My dearest Lillian,” he dictates, smiling at the thought of her eyeroll. The Quickquill blots the “M” in its excitement. “Your son just bade me keep a secret from you. The fucking gall. Invent an emergency and come home at once—and I’ll give you one hint to whet your appetite, darling: Potter men have a type.”

@jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic august 18, spoon, wc: 777

Dating someone like James Potter was annoying, Regulus had figured out quite early on in their relationship. They had to keep it a secret, of course; Regulus Black and the Gryffindor golden boy; Regulus Black and his brother’s best friend; James Potter and Sirius’ little brother.

It would all be such a nuisance, they’d decided they’d be better off hiding it for whatever had remained of James’ final term.

But that came with a problem of its own; no time to meet whatsoever.

It was the last few weeks before summer break, and James’ last few weeks in Hogwarts in general. He had a lot of studying, a lot of quidditch training and a lot of time-spent-with-friends-now-that-they-were-all-together. He’d include Regulus in that time-spent-with-friends, was Regulus not so against it.

It was his idea to keep it a secret in the first place. He’d be the one left alone next year at school, he’d be the one who’d have to suffer the curious looks. If he could avoid it, he would. After all, he and James could meet up plenty. In secret. When everyone was in class or asleep.

Which was, for instance, now. The curfew rounds by the prefects were wrapped up, everyone had been in their dorms for a couple of hours now. And Regulus, after receiving a very cute note that told him to meet James in the kitchens, had sneaked out of his dorm. He’d been careful not to wake up his mates, and he’d been careful not to get caught on his way there.

But he hadn’t thought he’d get caught in the kitchen.

He’d grabbed a bowl of vanilla ice cream and a spoon, and he was just pulling the spoon out of his mouth when the door was pushed open with a force. That ought to have been James, his loud confidence and the way he strutted around the castle late at night as if he was incapable of getting caught. But it wasn’t James.

Drarry where it isn't until they get together that Draco realizes that Harry never received any birthday gifts until he was twelve. It not only broke his heart, but it made him so angry that he decided that if the Dursleys hadn't given Harry a birthday then he would. One for every missed year.

Harry comes home to see a tiny cake with the number two on it as their kitchen table is filled with toddler toys.

"I'm fairly certain I'd have remembered us having a child, let alone one that was turning two."

"No, you dolt. This is your redo 2nd birthday! Happy Birthday, Harry!"

Harry wanted to tell him that it was January, but the open and earnest expression on Draco's face tugged at his heart. He looked around the table and saw a variety of toys that he knew he'd have loved as a two year old. As silly as it was to celebrate his 2nd birthday at twenty-eight, he had never been more touched in his entire life.

It was far too early to say the words that were desperately trying to leave his tongue, but fuck did he want to.

They had celebrated his 3rd and 4th redo birthdays before he let the words escape.

"I love you."

By the time they make it to his redo 11th birthday Harry knew that he was going to spend the rest of his life with Draco. He just didn't know how to ask.

In the end it didn't matter.

The balloons and cake on the table when he comes home from work confuse him. All of his redo birthdays were over.

"I shouldn't need a redo 12th birthday, Draco."

There was a soft smile on Draco's face as he moved closer to him until they were just a foot apart.

"I know that. It's not for your birthday."

Harry frowned as he peered around the room. There were balloons that read things like, congratulations. If it wasn't a redo birthday then did Draco get a promotion of some kind? Not that being your own boss really could have a promotion, but it was the only thing that made—

"Harry."

His head jerked back when he realized that Draco was on one knee. Oh. No. No way. There was no way that—

"Will you marry me?"

As if there was ever any doubt.

He might have gotten redo birthdays, but it's Draco that gets a redo proposal two years later because Harry did not spend all that time planning the best possible proposal just to be outdone.

He was Harry Malfoy-Potter after all.

“This is so stupid.” Regulus cursed out loud. It wasn’t like there was anyone around to hear him talking to himself. “Just so fucking stupid.” He smacked the dirt so hard his hand throbbed and that just made him scream again.

The tears were still streaming down his face, but the wracking sobs had finally stopped at least. Which was probably a good thing considering he was in the middle of bloody nowhere and didn’t have any water with him. He took a deep breath and scrubbed his face, forcing himself to cease the ridiculous crying.

He heaved a heavy sigh and pushed himself up off the ground.

“You are a grown adult. You can figure this out.” Regulus chastised himself as he looked up to the sky.

The trees were dense, but it was still clearly light outside, even if he couldn’t actually see the sun. He said a silent prayer to whoever was listening that it stayed light and it didn’t start to rain whilst he found his way out of these infernal woods.

“Right.” He said to the trees. “Logically, all of these routes are going to lead somewhere. You’re in a set of woodlands in sodding Oxfordshire, not a bloody rainforest in South America. Pick a route and take it. Eventually, you’ll either find an exit or your phone will get signal again.” He turned slowly. “Eeny, meany, miney, mo.” Decision made, he picked his bag back up and started walking.

He walked on and on and on and… “AHHHHH!” He screamed and startled a few birds out of their trees, some of them squawked at him as they flew away. “Yeah, well, fuck you too!” He shouted at them.

Regulus was about to start walking again when he heard what sounded like a voice in the distance and he froze.

“Hello?” He called out with some trepidation. Whoever it was sounded like they were running towards him, if the crashing of the brush was anything to do by. “Hello?” He called out again, trying to make himself sound less scared.

“Reg!” Someone shouted his name and he spun towards the sound.

“James?” He shouted back and his heart soared as he watched the gigantic form of his boyfriend come pelting towards.

He was swept of his feet as James reached him and pulled him into his arms.

“Baby, I’ve been so worried!” James breathed into his neck as he held on tight. Regulus squeezed back just as tight.

“How did you find me?” He choked out, desperately trying not to cry again, but he was just so relieved.

“Let’s get you back first and then I’ll bring you up to speed on how scary and awesome your best friends are.” James suggested.

“Alright.” Regulus agreed and James moved them so that he was still holding Regulus tight to his side as they walked off the way James had come.

“James, I’m sorry.” Regulus breathed, as he clung tight to his boyfriend.

“Sweetheart, you don’t have anything to be sorry for. I’m the one who’s sorry and so is Pan.”

“It’s not your fault I can’t take a joke.” Regulus mumbled.

“Hey, no.” James stopped them and held Regulus’ face in his hands and wiped the tears from his face. “You can take a joke when it’s funny. But we should have known better than to turn this situation into a joke. It wasn’t fair on you. I know how stressed you’ve been about getting to know Harry, I should have been more supportive.” James kissed him gently. “Come on, let’s get back, so I can feed you.”

“You trying to fatten me up, Potter.” Regulus joked as he sniffed and his tears finally subsided.

“Too bloody right.” James smirked as he pinched his sides and Regulus actually giggled. “Christ, your laugh is beautiful.” James kissed him again as Regulus felt himself warming under his hands.

“Sap.”

“Damn straight.” James flicked the end of his nose and then they started off again.

Regulus wasn’t sure how long they were walking for before they finally emerged out of the woods, but it was nowhere near as long as Regulus had been wondering by himself. The sun was starting to set by the time they got back to civilisation and James’ waiting car.

James helped Regulus get into the car, even going as far as to try and buckle his seatbelt for him. Regulus gently swatted his hands away and James huffed at not being allowed to help, as he walked round and got into the drivers side.

By the time they got back to the house, it was dark outside, the autumn sun having finally set. As they pulled into the driveway, the front door was flung open and Pandora came running at him as he got out of the car.

“Reggie. Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” Pandora was sobbing her eyes out as she collapsed against him and Regulus hugged her back, not trusting himself to speak in case he cried again.

“Come on, Pan.” James put a hand on both their shoulders and steered them towards the house. “Let him inside first and then you can fuss some more.”

Pandora relinquished her hold and Regulus was finally able to get inside the house and collapse on the sofa, where he could finally relax.

shane wakes up from a nap and notices that ilya isn’t in the room, which is incredibly weird because since they arrived in spain, ilya seems to think he’s a part of shane’s body. he gets worried and picks up his phone and sees that ilya sent him a message saying “my beloved sweetheart, i’m down at the dance ballroom learning salsa with incredible ladies” and shane snorts and thinks “that seems like a place where ilya would be”. so he goes after his husband and finds him surrounded by old ladies, dancing with one of them, and one of the ladies notices shane at the door and goes “oh young boy, you haven’t lied, you do have a very good looking husband” and ilya follows her gaze and finds shane and opens a wide grin going “mi amor!” and he apologizes to the lady he was dancing with to go to his husband and another lady says “oh if i was younger that boy right there would be my catch” and ilya turns to her with shane in his arms and goes “ah no, shane is useless with women” and shane slaps him and he keeps going “me on the other hand, i’m for incredible women like you all” and the same lady says “if you didn’t spend the whole hour talking about your husband we would’ve believed you” and ilya fake gasps while shane laughs and goes “don’t say that, my husband already has a big ego” and he smiles and turns to shane who was already looking at him and he kisses his husband while the ladies cheer.

Draco swans into the meeting, silver robes billowing, white-blond hair arranged in an intricate plait with healing-potion ingredients woven through it—not trying to make a point, but rather a spectacle.

Harry can’t stop the fond smile spreading across his face until his cheeks ache.

“You forgot your lunch, my darling,” Draco announces, setting a tin lunchbox in front of Harry. The constellation Leo is etched into the lid.

Draco bends down to kiss Harry’s cheek. Or tries to. Harry turns his head too far—just right—and Draco’s mouth lands on his waiting lips instead. Draco looks amused. Harry flushes like he’s eighteen again and has only just discovered that kissing Draco is addictive.

“Thank you, love.” Harry lets himself look smitten.

He is. Merlin, he is.

Draco leaves. The door clicks shut.

“What was that?”

Harry straightens in his chair, faces the old coots of the Wizengamot, and clears his throat.

“That,” Harry says, “is the reason we’re discussing opening marriage to same-sex couples.”
