Welcome! My name is Skylark. I am 30 years old and my pronouns are they/them. I am a writer working on Wiradjuri Country, Australia.

I write both fanfiction and original works. Most of my fanfiction is based on either Batman or X-Men, but I do write for other fandoms! I can be found on AO3 under the same username as here - skylarkblue. Occasionally I will talk on here about my original fiction. I am currently in-progress on a few different novels, but the one that’s dear to my heart is a sapphic romance set in the competitive world of women’s artistic gymnastics.

This is a multifandom blog without a lot of consistency - there is a lot of Batman, X-Men, other assorted comics fandom, gymnastics, sci-fi, and whatever procedural I happen to currently be watching. I listen to a lot of terrible punk and midwest emo and no, I am not over the Modern Baseball breakup.

I am a witch and have been practicing since I was a teenager! I did start undertaking my spiritual studies more earnestly this year though, which I sometimes post about on here. I use the tag #witch study for this.

My personal tag is #skylark prive - blacklist if you don’t want to be subject to a blow-by-blow of my life falling apart each week.

let this be the year that you stop using your school (or employer) email address for your AO3 account

  • when you leave school or leave a job, you lose that email address. This means not only that you’ll lose any emails you have saved on that address but that you might lose your ability to access AO3. When you try to reset your password or recover your account, messages are sent to the email address on file.
  • your school or employer might block emails based on words contained in those emails. that means you might miss subscription notifications, comment notifications, or emails from the Policy & Abuse team trying to contact you. These messages won’t go to spam. They’ll just be outright blocked. You will never see them.
  • your school/work systems administrator has the ability to access and read your emails (not that they necessarily would, but they have that power)
  • if you’re still in high school, it’s possible that the school’s Acceptable Use Policy (similar to a Terms of Service) would allow your parents or legal guardian to access your emails, upon request
  • school and work email addresses often use some form of your real, legal name which you may or may not want connected to your fannish identity.

As you can see, creating a free email account with a different provider is probably a good idea for a lot of reasons unrelated to AO3, too. It might seem annoying, but it’s worth it.

Commenting Etiquette

  • No Unsolicited Concrit: Authors post fanworks for free as a hobby. Unless an author explicitly asks for constructive criticism in their notes, keep comments positive and critique-free.
  • Don't Like, Don't Read (DLDR): If a story, relationship, or trope bothers you, hit the back button. Leaving negative comments over subjective preferences breaks core fandom norms.
  • Phrase Update Requests Politely: Demanding "Update soon!" can feel transactional. Pair your excitement with appreciation for the current chapter (e.g., "Loved this chapter, can't wait to see where the story goes!").
  • Short Comments & Emojis Are Welcomed: You don't need to write an essay! Leaving a kudos or a single heart emoji in the comment section is a totally valid and appreciated form of comment.

Tagging & Relationships

  • Accurate Warning Tags: Always select the appropriate Major Archive Warnings or explicitly mark "Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings."
  • Distinguish / vs &: Use / strictly for romantic or sexual pairings (Character A/Character B). Use & exclusively for platonic or familial relationships (Character A & Character B).

my dad is a huge Star Trek fan. like huge. you’ll never meet someone who knows more about Star Trek than him. Captain Kirk and Spock were main features of my childhood. I recently started watching the original series after watching it in bits and pieces with my dad when I was young & I absolutely love it. Here’s a painting dedicated to discovering an inherited joy 😆🤭

I started watching The Librarians franchise in mid-July. I refused to read fic, or write it, until I was “caught up” and had seen everything that had aired so far. Then, midway through s3 of the Librarians, I went deep into the Ezekiel Jones tag on AO3 and promptly lost my mind. I vaguely started sketching out ideas for Ezekiel-centric fics of my own, but still remained committed to Not Writing Anything until I had caught up on The Next Chapter and knew where everyone was in canon.

I’m finishing s1 of The Next Chapter tonight.

I opened my WIP spreadsheet.

I created a new tab labelled “Librarians.”

…and I promptly added seven fic ideas to it.
