PSA

Now the yearly PSA!

Hey there, welcome to the journal, if you came here just for art, you'll be disappointed. I post all my art over here: http://community.livejournal.com/d…

This is my personal journal, and it's not very interesting. I rarely post Friend's only things, so you're also not missing much if I don't watch you.

I have two filters:

'Dreams' which is a dream journal, I'll add anyone that asks to this one.

'Artists Only', for stuff relating to art as a job, some ranting and advice discussions. This is one not open invite. I've only added people that I trust to keep what's said in there private, likewise anything YOU say there is none of my business to share outside the posts. You can ask to be added, but I may not add you if I don't know you that well.

Fish adventures

'Been cycling a 55 gallon tank for a little over a year, (Yeah water charges+pH tests on an empty tank) and added in live plants over the last three. Lack of funds and poor timing with extended travel (Totally not going to first drop fish and leave for a weekend) when I had the extra money to get fish just kept bouncing back and forth to prevent me from actually getting the living vertebrates step going.

Did some final checks and finished this gap the last couple of days. I had recently shut down my little 5.5 office tank after my last cherry shrimp passed (had zero luck finding local places to get new compatible shrimp, since my original sets were all male...), and transplanted the live plants to the larger 55 post that.

Natural pH for our tap water fell within a really good level for working with South American river species, so I ran with that as the tank basis.

Our first set of fish were introduced tonight, a set of eight Glowlight Tetras, and four Green Corydoras Catfish.

Going to give the set up time to adjust, and let some of the newly seeded live plants take over before I add in a secondary middle level schooling set (Probably larger Tetras, Black skirt are looking like a viable placement.)

Right now I'm at a loss for a good top feeding fish native to South American streams I can add to top the tank off so to speak. If that set up isn't possible in my narrow native field, I may just add a third small schooling set and call it full.

Help me out here..

So I managed to finally name my favorite childhood book via only 140 characters on twitter. MAYBE, finally I can nail down the name of this animated movie I rented religiously around that same time?

First off, OTHER movies I use to rent during this time frame, I've since managed to pin down names, or at least US English translations of the original names. So I feel like this is just a one off that's slipped my grasp. (IE: Guys, So far I've FOUND ALL OF MY CHILDHOOD animated movies, BUT THIS ONE...)

Hard data facts:

~It CAN'T be newer than 1985 for release (1981-1985 seems to be the same range of OTHER films I ran into during this time period of my life). I rented this movie at a point I was between 6-8 in Denver. I RECALL watching it and renting it from a very specific video store in the same shopping plaza as my small library and Dentist building.

~The company that put it out tended to take European animated films, cheaply dub them and put them out on VHS during that time. (About 4/5 films I've refound from this time are actually native FRENCH, HUNGARIAN, DANISH, or SWEDISH redubbed for ENGLISH.

~Other films I rented from similar/same companies on VHS during this time (NOT US/ENGLISH):
Samson and sally: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samso…
The Little Fox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_L…
The Elm-chanted Forest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_E…
Peter No Tail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter… (Peter peter no tail, what else can I say...)

~ Was likely NOT US or Japanese based origin, probably redubbed non English European language, based on my later hunts for similar time frame movies I watched as a kid.

~ Not a series. This was an hour+ one off movie.

~ It's NOT BLACK CAULDRON. No pigs, not Disney.

Things I kind of remember for plot:

~ Very traditional D&D fantasy setting. Dark. Not humorous.
~ Main character was a young male knight (page, peasant??) in training, used a sword and shield.
~ Secondary characters were a princess who wanted to fight (Kind of forgettable?) and (the thing that will stand out forever since I only ate orange Popsicles for at least two years due to this character FOR SOME REASON:) a satyr/faun who could change his form. He shifted to a bird near the end to fly the main characters to a castle.
~ (Spoiler:) The hero beat the super villain shadow dragon by noticing he couldn't harm the huge shadow dragon on a physical level, instead he used his own shadow to stab the shadow beast and over come him. IE: that was the END of the movie.

I have spent YEARS trying to pin down this movie..does anything here sound familiar even for NON English movies? Any help trying to find a title is more than I have currently..

Fish tank shifts

Well, it was a nice run on the 5.5 gallon tank in the work room.

It was all live plants, some Marimo algae balls, and a few cherry shrimp. Sadly I wasn't able to find a consistent local place to buy shrimp to keep a breeding pool going. (My first batch of 6 ironically were all male.) The two hardiest ones lived a little over a year and a half, not bad for a little critter that only push 3 years tops in ideal settings.

Last lone shrimp passed the week we left for a vacation, and I made the choice to transplant the remaining foliage into the 50 gallon and shut down the small tank in the office. For the better, the more live plants I can get stable in there, the better it's going to look and the better it will function with fish.

SPEAKING OF, after delaying this stupid setup for at least a year due to tight money, I think I'm finally ready to start adding the base for the animal life.

Still need to do some last pH checks and temp prepping, but I think it's going to start with a small satellite school of Tetra, and Corydora cats for clean up. Once I know I can handle upkeep on that, I'll look into getting some extra fish.

MAN, despite the fact I keep up on water changes and pH monitoring, I still feel kind of shitty when my fish don't live to the expected time frame. This is the fear that keeps me from starting this tank so much. I just can't tell myself enough that sometimes fish die for almost no reason, and it doesn't reflect on how well you maintain a tank. Ugh..small steps.

I get unreasonably upset seeing artist friends end up drawing nothing but trashy porn because that's the only thing they can get enough money to support themselves on for art. UGH...

Breaks my heart, and I only get some meager bucks here and there to offer a well paid commission to 'draw any of my characters that strike you, the designs are super flexible, do whatever'..I want to give artists that same open ended, artistic love that I ENJOY from my own paid commissions...

Just..I wish so many of these people could live on drawing the cool things they LIKE to draw instead, sad that really zero artistic porn pays SO MUCH better...

Not saying adult artwork is BAD, or artists can't enjoy it. That's COOL. Just sad seeing artists that really want to draw X subject but keep having to resort to nothing but forcefully directed paid porn, because that's all the buyers ask for..

Sounds like you? I am so sorry..I'll try to throw a nice commission in the future..take my money and don't draw terrible rainbow striped dog tuars who complain that 'you didn't angle this sex scene in just a way to get the FULL tattoo on my back!' No one deserves that treatment...

Forever stuck in this 'State of Emergency' due to snow, things keep getting shut down here, and I'm told we've had over 75 inches of snow in about a week?

So very nice of New England to condense all of winter down into one week. I am looking forward to summer.

I also had a dream in which I spent a considerable period of time telling a friend how comfortable the Lincoln Towncar is..

Huh, seems like so many people I follow are shifting back to LJ a little?

Maybe I'll pick up public posting again. Since sometimes I want to say things in more than 140 characters.

So who's still alive here?
