Goddamn kids

It's "vinyl," not "vinyls." And they're not even "vinyls," they're "records," "LPs," or "albums."

You don't "collect" them, you buy them and listen to them.

This is what I get for hitting three Hot Topics in one afternoon. I'm sure that, had I gone to the one in Topeka, as well - I'd be quietly sobbing to myself right now. As it is, I'll try not to weep for the generation working the counter there, and take solace in the fact that the kids on eBay will pay me lots of money for things I paid very little for.

Not that I've been paying attention

I haven't watched any wrestling since Wrestlemania (thanks, Sunflower Broadband, for pricing yourself out of my range), but it seems that the WWE hates female wrestlers. Not "divas," but wrestlers. Mickie James and Katie Lea Burchill were released today, leaving...what, Beth Phoenix as their only legit female wrestler?

And since they're going more "family friendly," it's not even like they have lingerie/bikini/whatever pseudo-spank material anymore. So, we're supposed to watch idiots who can't act or wrestle because they're pretty? Get fucked, WWE. Way to show your female fans they mean nothing unless they're ogling the men.

To hell with you, post office

Really, I don't mean that. I just view the post office as a dispersal point, where I can send all these things people want in exchange for money.

On the bright side, when it's all said and done (tomorrow), I'll have the couch down here free again, and I can think about getting the truck running properly again. By "properly," I mean "I will replace the distributor cap, brushing, spark plugs, and spark plug wires so the fucking thing won't refuse to start if there's the slightest hint of moisture in the air."

You can see why I said "running properly" instead.

Off to a good start

Now, I might not be in Austin, where the weather is pleasant, the taco trucks plentiful, and the various showcases giving away free loot (the AAM showcase, where last year I walked away with two books, is giving away free Chucks this year), my vacation's been pretty solid for the first day.

Got Thing 2 off to Boys & Girls Club, got breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts (more for the coffee than the egg bagel, but I was starving), and then did another free form shift at KJHK. The setlist is below, and a lot like Sunday's.

Radio playCollapse )

I had a lot of fun, and my mom called! She was streaming it at the clinic where she works.

Afterward, I went down to the 'Kitty, and even though indierockgod was stuck on the road all day, Joe Noh was cool enough to show me the basics, and it was totally cool. I sold a few things, helped by the fact that they have essentially the same register as the bakery. This is going to be a fun extra thing to do, I think.

But that's not all! I got to interview Junior Marvin, of the Original Wailers (he played with Bob Marley), by phone this afternoon, and turned out a really nice produced audio interview to run on Wayward Blog tomorrow. Turned out better than half the stuff I did for As Heard From the Hill. There's also going to be a giveaway for Kevin Smith tickets, if you're inclined to go.

Now, it's just kicking back and having a beer while I listen to Tito Puente and wait to head down to the Replay for the Digital Leather show tonight. Three shows reviews in a week, and yet I've managed to find stuff to say every time. I think I might be getting the hang of all of this. I get that review written tonight, and I'm totally free tomorrow.

That's especially good, as the_lucky_nun took the day off work, and we're going to go watch the parade tomorrow, drink Guinness on the Replay back patio, and eat corned beef and cabbage for lunch. For a so-called "staycation" (and the next person to refer to it as such will be unable to say anything else afterward, as their words will be muffled by their own ass), this is pretty all right.

Ah, radio, I've missed you

Provided I don't drink more than two beers, I'm fairly okay to make it through a four-hour KJHK shift, despite the fact that I only got something like five hours of sleep last night. It was fun. Somehow I went from the Cannibal! The Musical soundtrack to Kraftwerk in the course of a show.

This should certainly make Tuesday morning's show kind of fun, especially as they've cleaned out a lot of CDs, making it imperative that I haul with me whatever I feel I NEED to play. I'm either going to have to haul another crate of CDs, or just make some very good playlists.

The full playlist from this morning's show is after the cut.

The whole thing, ugly and uneditedCollapse )

(no subject)

I'm now one more step closer to having my unholy army of attack cats. The three in our household follow me around, and await my exit from the shower, as well as gathering near me on the couch.

However...you know how cats chatter when they see birds or squirrels? Like this?

I did that when I saw a squirrel in the front yard. Stealth came running.

I CAN TALK TO CATS.

Huh? What?

Getting up early on my day off, so that I might drive out to Factory Direct Appliance and get there when they open. Why? Our microwave is screwed up, and we need a new one. The dude who came out and fixed it told us it would cost more to fix it than buy a new one.

Great, right? At least factory Direct has a doorbuster on an over-the-range microwave, so we're not going to totally take it in the shorts, but it's still yet another appliance going tits up and us having to spend money on it. On the bright side, we have the money to do, so I suppose I should just be happy we can do it.

I'll split the difference and admit I'm thankful we can replace the microwave, but I'm certainly not happy about it.

Film therapy

Watching movies makes me feel better. This week's been a little rickety thus far, so I've been trying to chill the hell out with things other than booze and yelling.

Today, we're going with red rooibos tea and DVDs. After a nap, I watched Fletch, and now it's Drag Me to Hell. Miss Busy Kitty isn't exactly a fan Drag Me to Hell. Her scared little self has been hiding under the covers during the scarier parts. She might be a little young for movies like this.

Sad that gory, violent things are what help me relax. I'm thinking Robocop tomorrow.
