X-post - Owling You by emeraldandscarlet
Who: Florian
Where: Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley
When: the morning after (July 1997)
When he woke up on the next morning, Florian yawned, throwing back the sheets that he had been underneath, he had only slept for a few hours, and he knew he wouldn't be able to doze off again.
So he got up and got dressed in a hurry, lightly tossing his hair with some gel, and not even bothering with the eyeliner. He paused only for a moment to cast a teethbrushing spell, grabbed his belongings and slipped quietly down the stairs to the pub.

So he got up and got dressed in a hurry, lightly tossing his hair with some gel, and not even bothering with the eyeliner. He paused only for a moment to cast a teethbrushing spell, grabbed his belongings and slipped quietly down the stairs to the pub.
The rain was falling and drumming hard on the window-pane; Florian could hear it slightly from his table, where he sat down and ate a simple breakfast. Eggs, bacon and dandelion punch for which he'd always had a real fondness.
As he gazed out the window overlooking Charing Cross Road, the memories of the previous day flooded back.
'Cedric took me home yesterday, offered me a shelter. He kissed me. We were making out. But then in a blink of an eye, everything changed' He turned from the window, his mind going numb. 'Why did it have to be over?'
Fumbling in the pocket of his coat, he pulled out the unfinished painting and cast an engorgio charm on it, to bring it back to it's original size. There were only a few brush strokes left to make the portrait complete but he knew he could never again bring himself to do it.
Florian touched the picture, Cedric was grinning on it. He knew that he would always remember that adorable smile. The memories would last forever. They would last until they saw each other again. Even if it indeed had to be in another life. He must see Cedric again, he knew it hadn't been the end. 'It is destiny', he supposed, 'there isn't anything time could do to keep us apart.'
Florian nodded, carefully rolling up the painting, then he paid for his meal and left the Leaky Cauldron through the back door. As he stepped out onto the street and shut the door behind him, he realized the rain had become considerably heavier since he'd looked out the window.
His mind was made up and set on flying away as far as his bike would take him and he had no intentions of backing out but there was something he wanted to do first. He had the sudden urge to owl Cedric. He wasn't sure what good it would do, but he knew he had to do it.
As he found himself in front of the brick wall behind the pub, the rain was soaking him. It stung his face, washing off the sadness from earlier, and filling him with an emotion he couldn't quite identify. He tapped the right bricks (three up, two across) to reveal the archway into the Diagon Alley, after which he turned his steps in the direction of the Owl Post Office.
He stepped inside, the place was empty except for a sleepy looking wizard who looked up at the blond, muttering "good morning, sir" from behind the counter behind which was the row of perches with available owls of all sizes and colors.
There were several desks with paper, ink and quills lined up along the wall. Florian sighed, walking over to one of the desks and taking a piece of parchment in which he began to write.
"Cedric, my sweetness, I'm sending you this painting in hope that you will accept it as a humble token of my affection and admiration for you. This painting will never match the beauty of your face but I drew it with my whole heart.
I love you, Cedric Diggory. I have loved you since the day I met you, since the first time our eyes connected. It kills me that I had to leave right when I was able to tell you all this, but there's nothing I can do about it.
I just want you to know that no matter where I am, I will never forget you, and I will always care for you deeply. I'm yours, now and until the end of time even though you might never be mine. Florian"
He quickly ran over the lines, hastily adding
"PS. I'm sorry the portrait isn't quite finished yet but where I'm going I won't be able to paint again"
before placing the note inside the scroll, writing Cedric's name on it and kissing the beloved initials. Then he stepped to the counter, handing over his letter, paid the fee and left the post office.
