Administering Eyedrops Help Please
As posted to
attachedparents
I've just had a big fight with both my son and my partner over eyedrops for conjunctivitis. They are both very stubborn dominant males and right at the moment I am very angry and absolutely sick of the pair of them.
The first time putting the drops in my partner did it the way that our GP had suggested by sitting behind William, pulling down the bottom lid and dropping it in the gutter. This technique hurt or so he said. I remember when I was a kid that it was as much the shock of the drop landing in the eye as the liquid on a sore eye itself that I hated. So the next time I talked my son into the eyedrops by telling him I'd do it differently. I placed a drop on the inside corner of his closed eyes and let him open his eyes slowly to let the drops dribble in. It worked and I told my partner about it. The second time I went to do it my son was getting tense and stressed and scared about it.
As conjunctivitis is so highly contageous William really needs to get these into his eyes. Our three month old baby has already caught conjunctivitis in one eye. So we held him tightly and I put the drops on the corners of his eyes but he wouldn't open his eyes to let the drops in.
Well it was a disaster.
So does anybody have any ideas about how to better do the eyedrops? And how I can get my stubborn control freak partner to see the AP point of view? He's driving me nuts. We started out wanting to be gentle parents five years ago but it's slipped out of our grip.

Cats again
Cats, cats, cats
I've done that time slipping thing of getting overly focussed on finding something on the internet and the next thing I knew it was 1am.
Anyway I was doing Google image searches trying to find that damn spooky big cat that silently appeared in our loungeroom for a couple of minutes late one night and then vanished out the second storey kitchen window.
So I looked at ocelots and lynxes first which took me to Wikipedia which also linked with articles on the Oncilla and the Margay. The cats were getting progressively smaller and cuter.
Ocelots are way cute IMHO.
Then I came across the Servals which are freaky-looking creatures. I've seen them at the Melbourne Zoo a few times now. They look like they're on stilts. They never fail to make my hair stand on end. Then I found out that Servals are being bred as pets in the USA. Ah-huh! Not only that, they've been cross-bred with domestic cats to produce the Savannah Cat and the Bengal Cat which comes in a variety of coat colours and patterns.

Then I found a whole bunch of small exotic cats and faux-exotic cats being kept as pets.

The Junglecat from Asia appeared a likely suspect. The Caracals did too if it weren't for the long feathery whiskers on their ears.
Finally I stumbled on the Cat House Home Page. (Do they know what a cathouse is?)

I don't know what this is but it frightens me. It's a Canadian Lynx and it still frightens me. Eep!
Is this really a cat? Surely it's some sort of Disney-possum-cat hybrid thingy! And is this one really the same breed of cat? I sure wouldn't have that sleeping on my bed. It would kill me in my sleep, I just know it.
And a really pretty alien cat in gold. I want a Sandcat! Squeeeeee!
I just did a google search for "melanistic servals" and found my way onto this page about "rare servals and special savannahs" and right there I think we might have a winner.
They're all gorgeous, fascinating cats. I'm sitting here wishing I could have one of the domesticated ones but that would just be silly right now.
