I was skimming through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them the other day for a fic I'm writing and came across this:

There's been speculation that there's a connection beween Dementors and Lethifolds, but now I'm wondering if what we know as the veil was actually a Lethifold being studied at the Dept of Mysteries, and that Sirius didn't fall *through* it so much as... yeah.

This would also explain why Remus, above all others, was the one to firmly tell Harry that Sirius wouldn't be coming back... as a DADA professor and something of an expert on magical beasts, he would be one of the first to recognize a Lethifold, no?

Hello everyone! My name is Lynsey and I am a Sirius-oholic.
So anyway, I am proper pissed off that JKR didn't explain the whole 'Veil' thing and whether or not he was actually dead. I originally thought she had left the subject open so she could maybe bring him back, because I'm pretty sure it never specifically says in the book when he 'dies' what curse he was hit with, it could well have been a stunning spell and he just accidently fell through the stupid veil. Alas my hopes were dashed when I saw the latest film (before reading the Deathly Hallows) where it shows Bellatrix Avada Kadavra-ing him, and as apparently JKR see's all the script drafts she must have approved this.
Maybe she did mean to bring him back but then decided she couldn't be arsed anymore.
I thought at least after all his suffering in Azkaban and everyone still thinking he was a murderer she might show him some compassion and let him survive it all and have some sort of happiness. But obviously not.
I am officially sulking.
