fics should make anthy meaner and weirder imo

this is not a negative quality btw. I think anthy's friends and utena especially, when she's not too socially oblivious to notice, like that anthy is kind of weird and hard to get close to. Adds a sense of mystery and intrigue to the situation. And when she stops to sympathize for a second, I think utena really does understand why anthy is the way she is. it's just part of the whole person, and getting to know anthy's petty side is kind of a badge of honor. Means you met the real girl and not the girl she sends out to dissociate and be pretty and get unpleasant tasks done. If she's bothering to turn you into different animals or play pranks on you or make veiled insults, it means you're part of her inner world. It's when she's never said an unkind word to you that you really have to worry
It's been so fascinating watching people wring their hands about "teenage sex" being part of the title of Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Literally a movie about repression and accepting sexuality and how society is currently afraid of sexuality of any kind and people are crying about the words teenage sex being in the title and how it feels weird to even write the title out why would they do that :(((((((((( proving their point about how fucked up our current relationship to sex is
camp miasma is like. art is real because it's a product of the society in which it was created, art is made of real emotion and fear and it can have a real impact on people. on a societal level, we are scared of things and, more importantly, people we can't categorize. we're scared of real intimacy in a sex, which is crazy because we live in a world where so much is hypersexualized. we're scared of death, which is also an incredibly intimate experience that can't be easily placed in a neat category. all of these fears are made manifest in art because art is a reflection of us, and then we engage with art and it shapes how we see the world. it's cyclical. there's a hole at the bottom of the lake where the movies come from..

i fear saying this but a lot of people's depictions of gideon/harrow in a sexual context are missing a je sais exactement quoi because they write them as coworkers who happened to fall in love when really they should lowkey be giving incest
