Beta Tauri (officially known as Elnath) is the second-brightest star in the constellation of Taurus. Beta Tauri is the current Bayer designation of the star, which is Latinised from β Tauri and shortened to Beta Tau or β Tau. The original name that was given to this star, Gamma Aurigae, is now rarely used. It is a chemically peculiar giant star. It has a spectral type of B7. It is located 134 light years away from the Sun. It has an apparent magnitude of 1.65.
