The app was made by the Czech company MobileSoft. It works on Android and iOS phones and tablets. It also works as a browser extension on desktop computers.[2]

AppBlock is mainly used to reduce time spent on social media, games, and other distracting apps. Many people use it while working, studying, or trying to build better daily habits. The app is also used by parents to limit screen use and by people who want better digital balance.[3]

The app first appeared on Android devices and later expanded to iOS and desktop browsers. As it developed, AppBlock added more features to help users manage attention and reduce procrastination. It became the most popular product made by its developers.[4]

Functionality

change

AppBlock is mainly used to block selected apps and websites. The app shows a list of installed apps and lets users choose which ones to block. It can also block specific websites and, on iOS, certain words typed in the Safari browser.[5][6][7] AppBlock can silence notifications from blocked apps, so alerts do not appear while blocking is on.[8] The app also has an allowlist mode. In this mode, only chosen apps can be used, and all other apps are blocked.[7]

Blocking rules are saved in schedules called profiles. Users can create profiles to choose times when certain apps and websites cannot be used. New versions can turn profiles on automatically based on the time of day, day of the week, the device’s location, or the Wi-Fi network being used.[6][9][10][7] On iOS, users can set limits on how often or how long an app can be used before it is blocked. The app can also track screen time for each app. AppBlock also has a Quick Block feature, which blocks selected apps and websites for a short time with one tap, without setting a long schedule.[6][7][11]

Strict Mode is an optional setting that makes blocking harder to change. When it is turned on, users cannot edit or turn off blocking for a set time. It can also stop the app from being removed during that period.[12][13] While Strict Mode is active, the set limits cannot be changed.[14][15]

The app also shows usage information. Users can see statistics about how they use apps and websites,[16] such as screen-time summaries. It includes focus sessions that silence notifications and keep blocking active during work or study time. Browser extensions apply website blocking on Windows and macOS through supported web browsers.[13][17]
