So, a while ago, I mentioned that I got done watching Big Love. For the most part, I really liked it. Nikki was my favorite wife for some reason. She was just so rigid, but committed to that way of life. And then there's Barb, who started out as the first (and originally only) wife, and Margene, who jumped right into it as her first real relationship. Oh, and I love Amanda Seyfried. It was weird seeing her onscreen with someone else from Veronica Mars, LOL. I never really cared about her relationship with Scott, though. And I kind of loved the weird vibe that Margene and Ben had, just because it was messed up. But mainly, I love how despite them trying to live a somewhat mainstream life, they keep getting dragged back into the Compound. Oh, the Compound. That place is a hotbed of crazy. Roman and his family are constantly trying to murder each other--pipe bombs, poisonings, etc. But then when they decide they hate someone else, they team back up. Then there are the Greens, the Utah mafia. Also, dead prophet in the freezer.
I found myself disliking season four and five. (And way to not be subtle with the new opening. We get it, they're falling apart.) Mainly, because instead of the show being about a "normal" family trying to get by, whose problems are their ties to the Compound and not letting the neighbors find out, the show becomes about running for office and keeping the secret, then office stuff and coming out. IDK, I just have zip interest in political stories, The West Wing notwithstanding. I know Big Love isn't a political story, but the tone of the show shifted. It wasn't about the family anymore, it was about this Goal, and politics, and shady deals, and lobbyists, etc. Meh. And despite how the show ended, which I kind of don't care about, but was surprised by, there were a lot of loose threads that the last part of the season didn't tie up. The Compound lost something as well. Albie was just as crazy an opponent as Roman, but I found myself not interested in his secret, and the Compound itself also got sidelined because of the other storylines. Really, I would have rather seen Bill trying to change things there and inadvertently getting more and more involved there. But I would definitely rewatch the first three seasons again sometime.
