in retrospect, this meeting was a bad idea
[ Lev's hands shake a little as he makes tea. He's still not sure what possessed him to ask Dist to come over, what he hopes to gain from this conversation. After all, there's only one thing he truly wants to say to the other and there's no graceful way to say "so can you break up with your boyfriend, because even though this incarnation has never met me, I think I have more right to him than you do". But he can't stand the idea of pretending Dist doesn't exist and pretending Jay doesn't exist is unbearable, almost physically painful.
He turns to the kitchen table, holding the teapot aloft. ]
Um. How do you take your tea ...
[ He trails off, awkwardly. He can't stand being polite to Dist, but he's aware that being actively hostile is just going to make him look crazier. ]

Just sugar. Thank you.
[That's polite, right? He even said thank you!]

Eventually, he sighs and opens the fridge to look there, having run out of anywhere else in the kitchen to look. ]
Um. I wanted to talk to you. I know we started off badly. I wanted to apologise.

[It's not a return of the sentiment, but Dist is still feeling prickly. Honestly, it frustrates him for the same reason that he'd be worried if another version of him appeared: he is still fundamentally insecure about how vulnerable it is to be in a steady relationship.]
You must understand my apprehension, don't you?
no subject
Your apprehension? You have known him for-- for two years. Two years.

I have known him for ten years. We raised two children together. I know his past far better than you. You are-- you are a temporary intruder.
[ He's aware he sounds crazy. He also doesn't care. ]
no subject
There is nothing temporary about me! As long as he is here, I will be, and if you can't deal with that it isn't my problem!
[And hey, look on the bright side - Dist hardly bats an eye at the talk of future things. He's been around long enough to understand weird timeline shenanigans.]
I don't care what you think you know. You don't know what we have and you never will!
no subject
Right. You should not be so sure about that.
[ He shakes his head. ]
You cannot compare two years to a decade. You are a passing fancy. He'll come to remember me with time or he will come to know me again. And then you will be discarded.
no subject
He wouldn't do that to me! I would never do that to him and he knows it!

Sh-shoving a cripple's pretty low.
[ He doesn't address what Dist said. He needs time to think of something particularly biting to say. ]
no subject
[Sorry, not sorry.]
