Polka-dotted extraterrestrials with prehensile toes and monster groove have come to save humankind with virtuoso looped microtonal rock in compound time signatures.

Look, based on that description, I wouldn't have given this the time of day myself either, but there's a reason these maniacs have become an absolute phenomenon.

Gentle readers, Angine de Poitrine.

Absolutely read the comments. As much of a treat as the band.

Like a lot of things that have arrived from space, their initial point of impact on this planet was Québec. Some clever person noticed that their track titles are phonetic spellings of Québécois slang (Joual).

KEXP is my local station. We give them heaps of money (relatively speaking) because they do this kind of thing.

I have a feed set up on Bluesky to capture any post that mentions KEXP. It has been completely saturated by people discovering this performance for weeks now. (Though Castle Rat started overtaking it this week.)

It's definitely the kind of thing you'd like if you like that kind of thing, which I don't all that much, but I'm still delighted to see the discovery and delight keep rolling onward.

In the words of Sam, the American Eagle: "You are all weirdos!"

Which is the glory of Muppets, and now Angine de Poitrine.

That first track makes me think of Gong's "You can't kill me".

Anyway, they're technically impressive and extremely tight.

Hilariously, my ex-husband just introduced me to this band. My teenager, who is fond of Toby Fox's microtonal scores and also of unusual time signatures, is enraptured. :)

Thank you. Without knowing anything about anything I just listened to, that was an entire 27 mins and 53 secs of "yes".
