Lunière banner by angstgoddess003

A short little discussion came up on minisinoo's journal about Alice.

We all know I'm obsessed, but the Alice that bangs around in my head isn't Ashley Greene, it's a SUPERBLY shopped photo of a young Winona Ryder in her short-hair phase. AG003 does beautiful work.

For anyone who hasn't seen my FF banner for Lun

Luniere Banner

Obviously i cut this banner for the avi that i -tried- to make...it'll do.

Summer Yums!

Today we have picked the first red tomatoes of the season for us. I'm terribly excited.
They are sitting in the windowsill, awaiting my trip to the grocery for cottage cheese.

I practically drool thinking about them.

Continued discussion from the_gazebo

Hopefully a couple of people from the_gazebo will drop on by for a discussion about political correctness/respect/inappropriate subject matter for young writers of fan fiction.

The discussion started with a post concerning a fanfic centering around the 9/11 tragedy. There is much more to the initial discussion than just do or don't do, but I don't feel like writing it out here. If you're a member of the_gazebo you can see the thread here

My basic belief:

I feel that political correctness/"forced respect" has had a negative impact on the ability of children raised in the "politically correct" era to think and process social situations/society as a whole as they would have before the government and special interest groups decided to use semantics to force respect. This causes MANY children/young people today to be accused of being insensitive or inconsiderate when they are just attempting to process events, social concepts, and/or emotional situations as best as they can in a time with little parental guidance and community support.

Here is my example:
I am a French teacher. I love the European school system and the emphasis it puts on critical thinking, debate, and desire to learn. Sure, there are faults. No public school system is perfect, but if I had my druthers I'd rather my children attend school in Europe (isn't going to happen, but I can dream.) Anywho, this is not to open debate on the educational system of the US, it is an example of the warped thinking created during the Age of Political Correctness.

EVERY YEAR, without fail, I have a curious student ask me if there are "African-Americans" in France. Now, when I first heard this question (10 years ago), I fought hysterical laughter and said, "I'm sure there are a TON of African-Americans in France on vacation." The student seemed shocked and I realized that they now thought there were no black people living in France. I had to backpedal and explain. Each year, inevitably, the question would be asked. Each year I got more and more frustrated at the brainwashing our youth have received. It's embarrassing. I'm thankful that by the time I get students they are able to do a lot of thinking on their own. We spend a day in class talking about race/ethnic relations in Europe. They're bad, of course, but they're differently bad.

The saddest thing to me is when someone asks me the question and when i respond that yes, there are indeed Black French people, the look at me aghast because I dare say Black.
Yes, I am white. Or perhaps I should say I'm Irish-German-Dutch-Cherokee. *sigh*

Any opinions?

Author's Notes:
This is my first attempt at a stylized short. I modeled this a bit after some of my favorite shorts by O'Connor, Gaiman, and Jackson. I will say that it is nowhere near the quality, but I'm getting a little better with each go.
Thanks to my fantastical betas tnuccio and mysticgirl5for all of their help. Also a big thank you for rennaise and smellyia for the tips and encouragement.
