Blah

Was in a car crash Tuesday evening. An SUV hit me, sent me across two lanes, over a median, and into a massive metal lamp post which tore through my car like a knife in butter. I'm alright, off work for a week, just suffering severe whiplash ... that and I had a reaction to the friggin' meds they gave me.

Anyone know how long before I can go back to the gym? My doctor (the same idiot who gave me those vile pills that made me barf) says he hasn't a clue (I'm starting to wonder if maybe he's related to Dr. Nick Riveria from The Simpsons, the guy seems like a real quack). I'm off work for a week, and I was planning on going back to the gym in 2 weeks, but if someone else has any experience with this particular type of injury, any input would be greatly appreciated.

And oh yeah, my car is totalled. The other driver was in an SUV and his airbags didn't even deploy!

I'm thinking of buying an SUV or something of equal size with better fuel efficiency.

I started using milk protein made by ON in addition to my whey protein. It tastes good (or as good as protein powder can taste) and it seems to be worth the money. With about 300 some calories, it is not for those tryin to simply tone. I suggest it. Anybody used it before?

How Long Have You Been Lifting On and off for 10 years, stopped due to being diagnosed with a serious disability, but have slowly gotten back into the swing of things.

Weight At present? 136 lbs or aprox. 61 kgs.

Height 5 ft 10 or 178 cms.

If you are a lifter, how much do you:

Bench Press (Flat/Decline/Incline) Depends on the day. I generally do about 15 lbs with the freeweights, and have recently stopped the decline position on the advise of trainer - for now. I will likely go back to it in a few months.

Squat and type of bar (if known) (please do not include Smith squats or assisted squats of any kind)
All my squats are assisted. Between 20 -40 lbs, depending on the number of reps.

Deadlift (please tell style and type of bar you use if you know it)

Power Clean

N/A

Curl (preacher/standing dumbell)
Standing dumbell 20 lbs.

What drew you to the sport?
I love feeling strong and capable. I love the idea of shaping and reshaping my body, of having control over the weights, and of maintaining that level of discipline. I almost get a high out of it. I know many people find it "unfeminine" but I don't particularily care. I frequently set goals and challenges for myself and really get excited when I meet those goals or surpass my challenges. It's unfortunate that women are frequenlty seen as unfeminine or abnormal for doing the sport, but while it's all about look, in many ways, it's so much more than that. It keeps me centered and gives me an edge few other women have.

DO you belong to a 1,000 pound (or greater) club?
Are you kidding me?

Where do you lift? For how long?
I work out in my home, and in a local gym for women only. I'm thinking of changing gyms because although my trainers are pleased to have a woman who's looking to do something other than "lose weight" or "tone up", the resources and equipment at that gym are mainly designed for cardio and basic resistance training. For now it meets my needs, but in a few months I expect that the equipment will no longer challenge me to the best of my capabilities.

Do you use Chalk, Wrist Wraps, or Gloves?
Thinking of getting some gloves, but I haven't really developped any callouses as of yet. I take excellent care of my skin as well as my muscles.

Please list any supplements you take
Complete omega 3-6-9 biocomplex (with flax and fish oil), Vitamin E and folic acid. As a result of my disability I have to be extremely careful what supplements I take. Folic acid helps with the "female athlete triad" - loss of menstruation = low estrogen production = osteoporosis. It's a concern of many female athletes. Although weight lifting and resistance training increases bone density, in female athletes, estrogen production is a much more profound impact with regards to stress fractures.

Recently I bought some Whey isolate. I was hoping to get more info on this as my trainer suggested it for me.

Anything else you want to tell us?
I don't generally post pics of myself as I'm not really in the habit of drawing unwanted attention. I'm here to learn, to exchange ideas, and to discuss my love of the sport with other, likeminded individuals.

I'm also a persuing a career in law enforcement.

welcome to the new people. i just want to update a few of my lifts:

My:
-flat bench is now maxed at 260 for three reps
-Squat is maxed at 425 for three reps with a standard bar
-deadlift is 350 for three reps, standard bar

my other lifts have gone up too but the main powerlifts are the important ones. i was really upset because the other day i ordered a new inzer forever belt, and they told me it is backordered so i wont get it for three weeks. have any of you guys used their lever belt? i hear it is really good for deadlifts in particular. i bought the buckle belt, with two prongs. just wondering what you guys think.

Interested in powerlifting, I've tried west-side methods and have found them useful, though I would have to attend some seminars and buy some of their videos to really progress with it. Right now my focus is on improving strength endurance, with maximal and relative strength as a side goal, as I'm in the military.
