Short post with big spoilers for end of series 3 under the cut. Also one casting spoiler for series 4 -- spoiler-spanned so you can avoid it if you want to, but series 4 spoilers are perfectly fine in the comments, so beware.
So, now that I'm able to sit up long enough to watch TV (it's SO SAD, really ... I don't actually feel bad, per se, aside from being really achey and headachey, but I'm so utterly fatigued that I've spent most of the last two days flat on my back) I've gotten around to watching the first two episodes of the new season of Being Human. With more to follow shortly!
First a random rec that I've had sitting around for ages:
Thin-Spun Life by troyswann - Being Human, all the housemates; sort of a fix-it for the season two finale, except that it seems weird to call it a fix-it when it's so sharp and chest-hurty. But this is a brilliant story -- heartbreaking and wonderful, with gorgeous language and absolutely spot-on characterizations; all the relationships and the character voices are perfect. It's not really depressing, it's just ... hard-edged, and one of the most brilliant fics I've read in this fandom.
Okay, there's that. In other news, I'll be house-sitting in Anchorage this weekend, which means my Internet access will be random and, also, just on the off chance ... does anyone on my f'list live in that general area? (I've already PM'd the one Alaskan f'listie that I know about.) Hey, if anyone else lives in Southcentral AK, we could have coffee and meet up or something? I'll be there from Thursday through Monday, and visiting plans for family and friends are being finalized, but my schedule is pretty loose right now. :)
sga_genficathon is done posting. Author reveals will be in a week or so! If SGA gen is your cuppa, check out all the fic. :)
Being Human has released their first promo pic for series two. It's not spoilery -- it's just a staged promo shot -- but kind of massively WTF. NOT THAT I AM STARING OR ANYTHING!
In other fandoms, I recommend this Dresden Files fic: Mind-Killer by Gehayi. It's a really neat look at Charity Carpenter's youth and how she met Michael, building on the various stuff we learned about her in book eight.
Well, I've had this sitting around on my hard drive since March, because I'd meant to do some more edits to it before posting it, but I watched through last night and decided, damn it, it's good enough, because obviously I can keep tweaking the thing forever. :D So here ya' go -- Being Human songvid set to U2! Many thanks to greyias and gnine for looking it over and offering suggestions (Greyias, the one you saw was a preliminary version as it turns out -- it uses the whole song now!).
Song: Bad Artist: U2 Fandom: Being Human Spoilers: Clips from eps 1-6
I wrote, posted and then privatized a long, rambly entry about my life -- it was more stuff I was working out in my own head than stuff I wanted the whole Internet to know, I decided. Short version, though, is that I might be going back to school this fall to finish my degree, over a decade after I dropped out. *flails*
Random fic rec: Notes on the Fridge (Being Human; slight George/Mitchell or could just be seen as the boys being silly and flirty). I love picture-fic/letter-fic/document fic (whatever you want to call it) and this is adorable -- Mitchell and George communicating via notes stuck on the refrigerator.
zvi_likes_tv has an excellent post on how to get a Dreamwidth account and what your options are: How do *you* get a Dreamwidth? Edit: And there's also a dw-codesharing community for getting an invite code (and hence a free account) if you don't know someone who has a DW journal. I should note in passing that accounts still aren't open yet, except to a small pool of beta testers, not until April 30.
At Metafandom, I ran across a good post on keeping your fannish identity anonymous. (People have probably noticed that I don't struggle particularly hard to keep my identities separate, though I'm starting to think I might oughta be a little more careful. I don't mind fandom people knowing my RL identity; it's the other way around that I'd really rather not.)
Last month, I rec'd John/Rodney friendship at stargateficrec; this month I've signed up for the Hurt/Comfort category (and possibly the Rodney category as well, but I'm not sure if I got my pick in time.) The category was in danger of being eliminated because it hadn't been rec'd in awhile, and we can't have that, can we? The only problem I think I'm going to have is narrowing it down! Do any of you have suggestions for your very most favorite SGA h/c fics? I'm just looking at my saved SGA fics (... almost a thousand of them in the folder) and realizing that over half of them would qualify for this category! So point me to a few of your faves; I'm mostly just looking for a good starting point, and to see if there's anything out there that I don't know about! Any characters/pairings can be involved, in any combination.
Edit: Oh, right, and it's April 1! It's always fun to see what people are doing around the internets. Check out Think Geek's homepage (squeeze bacon! USB pet rocks!). Over at little_details, a community where people post research questions for their stories, everyone is posting their questions today in the form of LOLcat macros, which is totally cracking me up. Edit2: Bwahaha, and Google has supposedly turned their operations over to an AI (run amok). It's obsessed with pandas; check out the image search page. The Gmail Autopilot page is my favorite part so far, though...
five reasons to fall head over heels for Annie (picspam) Like the name says! (A lot more than five, really.) Utterly gorgeous picspam. Mildly spoilery, but I don't think you'd be too badly spoiled if you haven't seen all of the series.
Evolution by joonscribble (PG-13, gen) Pre-series George & Mitchell fic; very good job with the character voices and their slow transition from antagonists to friends. (Side note: I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing this is the same Joon that I remember from Good Omens fandom! She was one of my favorites back then...)
Comfort by heather (G, gen or light Mitchell/Annie) Utterly adorable little Mitchell/Annie ficlet. Post-ep 6.
Ghost, Watching (PG, Annie) Pre-series; Annie's first impressions of the boys.
SGA: The Temptation of John Sheppard by isagel (vid; McKay/Sheppard; found via thingswithwings) I keep trying to swear off McKay/Sheppard and then the fandom gives me things like this, darn it -- gorgeous song, and oh so gorgeously vidded. It, uh, makes the show look a whole lot better than the show actually is, and I always appreciate vids that can do that.
I set out to make myself more Being Human icons, but I made so many that I can't possibly need them all, so I wanted to share. ^_^ There's lots of Mitchell, quite a bit of Annie, and some George and group icons. (George, I swear I don't love you any less! I'll make it up to you later!)
This is really a tiny fandom, but not as microscopic as the last fandom in which I tried to find fanworks (Wiseguy), in that there actually is a fandom this time! This is clearly not a comprehensive list of fanworks, just the things that personally appealed to me; see the communities at the bottom of the recs list for more. I'm not putting individual spoiler warnings on these, so be aware that any of them may contain spoilers through episode 6.
Um, this was supposed to be a general post about all six episodes, but turned into mostly a squee-post for episode two. With visual aids. I have no idea how this happened. This post also contains very vaguely spoilery references to the other episodes through Ep. 6.
(p.s. Let me know if you have any trouble seeing the screencaps? My laptop screen makes it tough to tell if pictures are too light or too dark or what...)
