Welcome to February

So A LOT happened in the first month of the year. Got evicted, moved in with a friend, fell in love with two cats, job searching, Sherlock came back and doubled up my obsession from the previous year, Sherlock broke my heart (though I knew that was coming, having read the books), more job searching, discovered and got hooked on Alcatraz, got three interviews in the past week (the last of which is tomorrow), and got an incredible opportunity that I will hear the final word on tomorrow (I will speak no more of this for fear of jinxing). I can't believe that was all one month! And it's my birthday in 3 days!

Sherlock Pilot

I've been avoiding watching the unaired pilot of Sherlock, because people said it paled by far in comparison to A Study in Pink and from the gifs I saw it looked low budget and bad. Well, I finally watched it tonight and OMG, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad they redid it! If A Study in Pink was a 10 out of 10 (and it so so so was) then the unaired pilot was a 4 out of 10. Production values make a HUGE difference. I much prefer Sherlock's hair longer and, while the script can stand on it's own, the execution that first time round was ...lacking. I prefer  the delivery of each line in A Study in Pink to the delivery in the Pilot. I also much prefer Sherlock's colder demeanor in A Study in Pink. Everything with Mycroft was missing too and I love that little standoff to bits.

The Making of Sherlock

I just finished watching Unlocking Sherlock: The Making Of. I really love the part where they talk about Sherlock and John's relationship, how they talk about them being each other's missing halves and how Martin says that as with any great relationship you meet that other person and you know almost instantly that you've met "the right person". Very soulmate-y talk. It's a good segment to watch with your slash goggles on.

Rules:

Make a post containing your holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Beckett/Castle icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for __ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

* If you wish for real life things (not stories or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
* Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
*Surf around your friends list (or friends’ friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.

And now here's the important part:
*If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
* You don't have to spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it's your call.
* There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Wow, it was hard to think of ten things!

YAYZ!

I finally got my Sherlock DVDs! I'm watching it right now and so far it's the BBC version. Nothing changed. I'll need to see The Blind Banker, though to see if John still says "ASBO" instead of "community service" like on PBS. For my British friends, Americans have no idea what ASBOs are. I only know, because I looked it up after hearing it on Doctor Who.

Delivery Fail

So I got the email from Amazon on Saturday that my Sherlock DVDs had been shipped. Looking at the tracking information today (the 26th), it says that the package was delivered on the 24th, but I still don't have it. I called Amazon (via 411, because they make it impossible to find the phone number on the website) and they said that if I don't receive it by Dec. 1st they'll send me a new one. I don't blame Amazon. I blame USPS. This is by far not the first time I've had a problem with the US postal service.
