hihi dear lena!! i'm a new player of the alpha build and i've been having SO MUCH FUN!!! i'm here, however, to shamefully ask you something! you see, i went the entire game without training recruits, not because i didn't want to, but because every time i tried i received a "this section is incomplete" message, but in ch. 10 i noticed some choices had to do w/ recruits and also some fans were talking about it... what am i doing wrong? why couldn't i play it/access it? thank u so much in advance!!

Hi, sorry, that’s a sort of half-bug that I noticed and just fixed on my end a few days ago, but I don’t think it will show up on your guys’ end until the next update! Basically you’re not supposed to be able to train your recruits until chapter 5 or so, so it erroneously shows up in the map once you become captain but you can’t actually access that content until chapter 5! My fix makes it so that it won’t show up until the proper time now! But the content is all ported and there, try clicking it once chapter 5 starts (or the chapter after that) and it should work! (It’ll also appear in the text list under the map when it’s truly accessible)! Hope that makes sense!

i'm playing the public demo on itch.io. i was spending some time with caine, i was at the spot where i chose the option that i'd teach him how to fight when he pointed me to the kids that beat him up, but the game doesn't let me pass after that.

from now, what i can read is:

Hi there, I’m so sorry, that is a bug that I’ve fixed in the alpha build but not on the public demo! 🙏 Unfortunately, there’s no way to get out of it except to not click that choice–is there an autosave that you could go back to? Very sorry for the inconvenience!

If it helps with finding this bit of text, "especially" is in italics (idk exactly how you would search text to find a specific bit, but I imagine that might matter!).

No, it isn’t! :’) The achievements use a specific function so that your browser will ‘remember’ them even when you start a different save file or new playthrough (since not all achievements can be achieved through a single playthrough), so maybe your browser isn’t registering that code. If you could drop a bug report through the official form with your browser and other details, that would help!

Saves do not work on the downloaded version. This is because saves require a save name, but the save name prompt function doesn't work except in browser. However, you can bypass this by adding an autoname saves toggle -- if a player using the downloaded version has autoname saves toggled on, there is no need for a prompt, so there will be no error thrown and it will correctly save.

hey don't know if this got reported yet but if you get 20 coins in the first free day it never registers correctly it's like we got less or even nothing at all! my mc had 100 to begin with if it helps track down the bug (saved both the boy and that royal)

Hi there, thanks for your report! In the future, it’d greatly help if you could submit through the bug report form so I have all of them in one place–I can’t always address a bug when I see messages come in through Tumblr, and then it gets buried by more asks or I just forget haha–but that will be fixed whenever I update the build in the future!

I like taking detailed notes when playing ShoH and it's a bit of a nuisance to me not to be able to copy-paste an occasional important line to comment on it in a notepad. Hi there, thanks for asking this question, mostly because I didn’t realize this was something you could change! :D I thought it was just part of the core functionality of itch.io or Twine… turns out it was a CSS rule that I’d never noticed that was making this happen! Hopefully removing it doesn’t break anything (like hopefully it wasn’t there for some reason I’m either not aware of or am not remembering) but long story short, copy-paste should work in the next update! Thanks for your patience!

Hi anon, I’m sorry you’re experiencing lag, but I’m unfortunately unable to help you based on this! It helps to know what phone you’re playing on, what browser, what your internet connection is like… It could be something out of my control or not, I have no way of knowing without more information! But please submit your bug reports to the official form. It’s the only way I can keep track of bugs or potential bugs–the askbox here on Tumblr is not where I accept bug reports!

out of curiosity, in the old build, we used to be able to train in magic or strength multiple times per day off ( ie. you could train magic, hang out with companion, and it would reset to let you train magic again.)

will that be something we can do again, or was that a bug in the old game?

Hi there, thanks so much for your congratulations, it means the world!! As for your question, you may have seen this post about it already, but I don’t actually remember if I intended for people to be ‘reset’ magic and strength training like that. 😆 I’m actually pretty sure not, and that it was a bug, because here’s what I think happened: those options used *hide_reuse, meaning ChoiceScript would hide them if you’d used them during the scene already. However, at one point in the alpha build, I had to split companion interludes into their own separate files rather than all being in the 'day off’ file, so if you exited the file -> went to the companion files -> returned to the day off file, the *hide_reuse command would reset, and the magic/strength options would erroneously show up again! I just never knew that was happening, lol.

So no, that won’t be how it works in the alpha build, but I’m fairly certain that–when everything is working properly–training even only once in magic/strength is sufficient to do everything you’d want to do in the game, with some thoughtfulness in choices! I tested the stat balance over and over to make sure of that; there was just a bug that was preventing people’s stats from going up on the interactive map, but that’s fixed now!
