Due to the nature of his upbringing it is natural for him to call all humans mundanes, and all monsters or supernatural type beings - downworlders. Where he is from all downworlders have demon blood in them and it is a typical shadowhunter stereotype to look down on anyone who isn't of angel blood like themselves. Alec quickly grows out of this stereotype after the first season, but sometimes has difficulties leaving the language behind.
