It's been a long time since I did this. Be kind. For doyle_sb4's drabbleathon.
Title: Uncommon Author: septembergrrl Setting: Buffy S6 Assignment: For quasi_hayley, who requested "There is nothing more uncommon than common sense."
If Buffy's friends had any common sense, they would notice that something was wrong. Notice how often she drifted away from everyone, the time she spent alone, curled on her bed, her joyless patrolling. Notice that she never smiled. Notice Spike's hands creeping toward her, his knowing, owning glances. It would be obvious, even if her rote words denied the truth in her eyes and actions.
They didn't. Refused to. Jabbered away at her as if everything was fine, as she fell apart inside.
In her dreams, Joyce strokes her hair, tells her nothing is as uncommon as common sense.
So I'm looking through my files (slow weekend, okay), and I've found a few ficscraps that are, possibly, worth sharing.
I'm not calling them WIPs, because that implies they might be finished someday. They're just longish scenes from stories I started and abandoned, that I feel are worth at least posting in here. Feel free to mock them, rip off the ideas, or (attentionwhore alert!) praise and pet me, as you see fit.
Up first, a Charmed snippet. The setting: 2026 (or so), atop the Golden Gate Bridge.
Title: Light Years To Go Summary: Post-"Not Fade Away," Xander meets Willow at the airport. They both have things to say. Rating:PG Author's Note: Written for moireach for the willowficathon. Spoilers through the end of Angel S5. The title comes from the R.E.M. song "Find the River."
"So Kennedy didn't come," he said, and wished he hadn't. His best friend, who he hadn't seen in almost a year, was finally on the same continent, and they had a 20-minute drive to the funeral all to themselves, and he had so much he wanted to ask her ... and he was going to talk about her bratty girlfriend.
So I am announcing my very first fic challenge/ficathon -- the "Hometown Challenge."
The concept is this simple: You write a story with Buffy- or Angelverse characters, set wherever you live. (Or in your college town, or in the city where you grew up; a place important to you, anyhow.) The story can be an AU, or futurefic/pastfic, or whatever genre works for you. All pairings and ratings are accepted and encouraged. (Also, signups to write about L.A. are perfectly fine.)
One slightly different element: This is two challenges in one. The first is an open challenge, with no assignments given. If you do this, you can write whatever type of story you want.
But if you feel you work better with a prompt, make a request and I will match you with someone else who made one.
Signups end May 19, three weeks from now. The completed stories, which should be at least 1,200 words, are due Sunday, June 20.
Please sign up by commenting to this post. If you don't want a request, just write down your name, email, and the place you think you'll write about. (It's okay if this changes once you start writing, this is just to give me an idea.) Fill out everything else if you're asking for an assignment.
And have fun.
LJ name: Email: Place you plan to write about:
****OPTIONAL**** Character or pairing: One other thing you want: One thing you don't want: Your current spoilage level: Will you do a backup fic if needed?:
Title: All That You Break Author: Lyra Jane Rating: R (Angst level: 4.) Summary: Spike and Dana in the basement during "Damage," if Angel hadn't gotten there. Written for doylesb4 for the angstathon. A/N: Thanks to serasempre for the fast, thorough beta. Another beta may be edited in over the weekend, but I wanted to post this before I went offline. ( Collapse )
Three fics in three days, and one more due Monday. I think that's a personal record.
Title: Necessity & Lies Author: Lyra Jane Summary: Drusilla wasn't the first vampire Lindsey approached to turn Darla. Set during S2 Angel episode "The Trial." Lindsey & Spike, with suggestions of Spike/Angel and Spike/Darla. Slight AU (or, possibly, an incident that was lost to a mindwipe). Rating: R A/N: Written for anatari for willa_writes's Spike slash-athon, who requested Lindsey/Spike with Spike quoting Benjamin Franklin. Thanks to sj for the beta.
Spike was lying on his crypt flipping through a copy of People he had nicked from the Summers' house when the knock came at the door to his crypt. "Come in, Slayer," he called out. "But if you're going to beg me to do your dirty work ag-,"
The sentence died on his lips as he looked up and saw not Buffy, but a young man with shaggy light brown hair dressed in a business suit. "Hello, Spike," he said as he pulled a business card out of his pocket. "My name is Lindsey McDonald. I'm with a law firm called Wolfram & Hart. We want to make you an offer I hope you'll realize it's in your best interest to take." ( Collapse )
Title: Ordinary World, Mad World Author: Lyra Jane Summary: In the wishverse, Drusilla goes on a hunt for Xander. Set in that world's equivalent of S1 Buffy. A/N: Written for willa_writes for the maybedarkpink's Dru ficathon. Rating: NC-17
The world is wrong.
Drusilla doesn't know why, or how, but it has shifted, broken like a teacup fallen off a high table onto a bare floor. The wrongness of it all gives her a headache.
She concentrates on it, asks Miss Edith and all the stars. The solution is as clear as any vision: she must go across the ocean, to California, to find her place in this new world and the boy who will help her make her own place in it. ( Collapse )
