Vicious Mockery. I call opposing counsel a doo-doo head and they immediately cede the case.

message. I’m just remembering grade school and thinking of how much easier passing ’notes’ in class would have been with a spell that literally can not be overheard by anyone but the target

Don't you still have to very visibly point your finger at the target though? (or am I thinking of Sending?)

Guidance! Be a little bit better at absolutely everything!

my hand slipped :)

OK I know none of you followed me for this but please just let me have this one

My cat came home from a dental procedure with shaved legs like this. They shaved the legs to be able to set IV's for anesthesia, in her case one front and one back leg. Yes, declawing is bad, but I'm not sure that's what this is, especially since the feet look normal.

I wonder what would happen to the Tumblr ecosystem if all trans people weren’t so fucking touch starved? Would it all just fucking collapse?

Ya know this was meant to just be a shitpost, but youre right. I have a lot of feelings on the matter so this may just turn into incoherent rambling, but touch is so god damn important.

I went through ~5 years of absolutely no intimate touch and let me tell you, it does things to you. I was so much more likely to think my friends didn’t like me. I felt such a deeper sense of isolation and anxiety regularly, and when you’ve gone that long without regular touch, those moments caused (me) such intense feeling of yearning. Desperation for anything even resembling closeness.

And of course this occurred while I was also figuring out my own gender identity, which made that entire process so much more difficult to parse out. I was filled with regular doubts about whether I was actually trans or whether I was just doing this as some form of attention seeking behavior because I was so desperate for human intimacy. It fucks with you ability to feel like your a part of a community, and the longer you go, the worse all of these things can get. It can feel legitimately inescapable. The stress of it all can be a constant burden on your mind.

I wish I had better advice on how to escape this loop. It took me ~2 years of regular effort to slowly build a friend group (primarily of other queer folks) to get there. It was a lot of emotional effort. A lot of putting myself out there and a lot of asking others what their comfort with physical touch was. All I can say is that it was worth the effort. My heart goes out to all of the lovely folks who are isolated and struggling to find that sense of community that makes them feel comfortable enough to express and receive physical affections.

Tell your friends you love them. Hold their hands. Kiss their foreheads and give them long hugs. Cuddle together and watch movies. Lock arms while walking. Rest your head on their shoulders.

I absolutely loathe that soft intimate expressions of physical affection are viewed as something inherently romantic or sexual. Theyre NOT. Full stop. We need touch. The queer community really needs touch.

Things I have found to be helpful with touch starvation (if touching actual people is not readily available): weighted blanket, hot baths, professional massage. And most impactful for me personally: cats. Seriously, I adopted two cats a few months ago and it has made a massive difference in my mental health, specifically for the small amounts of positive touch every day. I expect that would not be enough for everyone, but I can literally feel my blood pressure go down when I cuddle with my cat. Single women having cats is a cliché for a reason.

Being raised by areligious jews with 0 exposure to christianity outside pop culture is so fun. One time I asked my ex-catholic friend why a picture of jesus had a bristle crown and she looked at me like I was insane. One time I heard someone mention the "lance of longinus" and responded, word for word, "Like from Evangelion?" One time during a history lesson my professor described an important monk and scholar as "Dominican" and I spent the rest of class super confused and hung up on it because I was very sure that the Dominican Republic didn't meaningfully exist as an entity back then, maybe she meant he was a native Taino or something but that's a weird way to say that and I'm pretty sure this was pre- European contact? Really fucks people up when they realize I genuinely have no idea.

This but it's my partner taking an art history class in college and the professor looking at them like they grew a second head when they answered "What came out of Jesus' wound when he was stabbed on the cross" with "...Blood?"

Additions that prove my point by mystifying me because what on earth would come out of a nail wound besides blood. Are you telling me it was something besides blood. What was jesus full of that wasn't blood. You guys are scaring me

Apparently it was water?? I guess he was also stabbed on top of being crucified (which feels like overkill imo) and water came out, which was a huge deal in medieval symbolism and also to my medieval poetry professor, who was genuinely shocked and upset that I didn’t know. This man fully docked me points because I, a whole ass Jew, hadn’t somehow heard about the secret waterballoon Jesus lore that I guess everyone is supposed to like… intuit

On the plus side, it does lead to some absolutely wild medieval Jesus art of angels tapping him like a fucking keg

a friend of a friend went to go see passion of the christ for kicks without knowing anything about the story

when jesus was hauled up on the cross he turned to my friend and said, in all evident sincerity, 'i know they're not going to kill the main character but how's jesus getting out of this one?'

When I was a kid in Sunday School they brought in a heart surgeon to explain to us in GREAT DETAIL the physical process of being crucified. This includes that being suspended like that with your arms raised causes fluid to build up in the lungs, and prevents you from doing any of the things that would usually clear it. Basically, you drown. So when they stabbed him in the side (puncturing a lung), that clear fluid came out as well as blood.

It was legit one of the most traumatizing “lessons” I have ever sat through, everyone in the room was crying. Be glad you missed it.

stuff I like

- when the person kidnapped by the villain is all ‘no one’s going to come for me’ and

- someone does, but it’s the person they’d least expect

- EVERYONE COMES because wow, maybe I am depressed because I didn’t think I knew this many people, much less that they liked me

- no one comes and the villain gets pissed on their captive’s behalf and treats them better than their former associates did

- they rescue themselves and everyone’s so impressed but the person yells because I AM CAPABLE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST NOTICED I’D BEEN KIDNAPPED

- they get rescued by a deus ex machina, preferably their dad/mom/grandma/old associate who is exponentially cooler than the heroes

basically, I like it when people get rescued and get validation

Can I add: people getting rescued by their pets.

I also really love when a person gets kidnapped and is utterly unsfraid because they know that a specific person is coming for them and oh boy did that villain make a mistake kidnapping them.

And, as in uffish (derogatory) thought he sat, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came GIFfling through the old group chat, And hurgled as it came!

UWU! UWU! And through and through The discourse blade went "Um, actually, the Jabberwock is coded as friendly because 'eyes of flame' means red and orange, and those are warm and inviting colors according to 'color theory', which I guess you haven't heard of and don't understand." He left it dead, and with its head He man car door hook hand.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boi! O #frabjousday! Sounds fake but okay!” He reblogged in his joy.

Why did you give the last of your food to that poorly disguised mimic? You were finally at peace with letting go, but now this odd thing won’t leave you alone and is even turning itself into various items in an attempt to aid you.

The mimic is a young one, and you knew that from the moment you laid eyes on it. It was disguised as a crate, but the angles weren’t quite right. The corners were a little lopsided, and if you looked hard enough you could make out the creature’s mouth.

A sigh escapes you as you toss over the last of your rations, not even bothering to stand up as you do so. What’s the point? You think. I’ve been trapped in this cave for days, nobody is looking for me, and the monsters are closing in. Why should I bother even trying? I could just fall asleep now, and let this little mimic eat me too.

The thing is… it doesn’t. It eats your rations, but when you lay down and try to sleep, it doesn’t attack. You do hear it move closer, but you don’t open your eyes until you feel something nudge your hand. As you barely open your eyes, you can see that the mimic has morphed itself into a crude sword. You can’t help but chuckle.

“You’re cute, but I don’t have anything left to give you.” You don’t have anything left to give for yourself either, but you don’t say so.

The mimic doesn’t seem to take no for an answer. It becomes a dagger, then an axe, then a staff, as though it’s trying to determine what your preffered weapon is.

“Listen, I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but it’s not working. I’m not going to pick you up and take you into some other part of this stupid cave system. Nice try, though.”

You turn away from it and attempt to sleep again. As you do so, you find yourself shivering. You really wish, as you doze off, that you had a blanket.

When you wake, much later, you’re surprised to find yourself covered with the warmest blanket you’ve ever had. You quickly sit up, eagerly hoping that someone had cone for you, but the cave is empty. When you look at the blanket, you notice the imperfect edges and the janky seam across the middle.

“…why haven’t you eaten me yet?” You ask the little mimic that’s now laying on top of you. “What’s wrong with you?”

The mimic, still in the form of the blanket, slithers off of you, but it does not respond. Instead, it begins taking the form of weapons again. When it turns into a crooked staff, you reach out, despite yourself. Your fingers wrap around it and you use it to haul your aching, injured body to your feet. “I guess there are probably nicer places to die.”

You know you won’t get far. And you don’t. Especially not without light. The mimic doesn’t seem too bothered, though. When you collapse again, it scuttles off. Perhaps this was simply where it wanted you to take it. Perhaps now you can finally succumb to your exhaustion.

Then, a few minutes later, a misshapen clay cup bumps against your hand. It’s full of water, and there’s a crack in the middle like a jagged mouth. You pick up the cup and you drink, telling yourself it’s only out of desperation. When you set the cup down, that little cracked mouth seems to smile.

This goes on for what feels like days. The mimic helps you limp along through the tunnels, transforming into whatever you may need at any given time. Every time you fall asleep, you expect not to wake up. Yet, you do, usually with a mimic blanket wrapped around you. It brings you food and water when you can.

The biggest surprise comes when one morning, you find you’re pleased to have survived another night. You’re happy to have the mimic keeping you warm. It’s a new feeling, and a confusing one, but it’s not unpleasant.

The other monsters that you know are down here seem to leave you alone for the most part. You aren’t sure why. It crosses your mind that maybe it has something to do with the mimic. Then again, maybe they’re just waiting for you to die. Death is gradually beginning to sound less and less appealing.

The day you catch a glimpse of sunlight down a long and narrow tunnel is the first day you finally feel like your old self again. Your pace quickens, and you don’t need to lean on the mimic’s staff form quite so much. The illusion shatters when you reach the light’s source. A small gap, high above. You curl up on the floor and cry. When you finally have the strength to look up again, your mimic has become a ladder.

Getting up is hard, in your state. Climbing, even more so. But the ladder is the biggest and best transformation the mimic has done so far, and if it wants you to get out, then you can’t let it down.

You feel it push up under you when you reach the gap. It helps you squeeze through, and then… freedom. Fresh air, and sunlight. You lay on your back on the stone, and you pass out.

You wake up at sunset, with a blanket draoed over you. A blanket with a jagged seam down the middle.

How the hell did you make me tear up over a freaking mimic?! Mimic is a good boy
