Many years have passed since I last saw "THE GREAT GATSBY", the 1974 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel. Many years. I must have been in my twenties when I last viewed the movie on television. With the release of Baz Luhrmann's new adaptation, I found myself curious to see how this 40 year-old movie still held up. Between the mid 1980s and the early 1990s, Bette Midler was something of a box office power house for the Disney Studios. The latter released a good deal of her movies through one of its distribution labels, Touchstone Pictures.
