It's been a little while

Hello everyone, my name's Kevin.

I just wanted to give everybody, if anybody, an update on how things have been and/or are going.

There's been some significant events in my life since the last update. I will  just break it down by category.

Work

I quit Winn Dixie in July of 2006 after 8 and a half years of dutiful service and countless promotions, finally ending up as an Assistant Manager. I was recruited by Office Depot to be a Service Solutions Manager. While there, I basically was paid well to run a register and make copies. I worked there until July of 2007, at which point I was hired as an Assistant Store Manager for CVS/pharmacy.

This job paid very well, however, I was salary. I worked 15 days straight often. 90 hours week often. Every day was at least a 14 hour work day. One morning, I overslept and my store manager called me. I said "I quit" and that was that. That was in September of 2007

After 3 whole months of not being able to find a job I finally went back to my roots to Winn Dixie as an Assistant Grocery Manager. I worked there for a few months and eventually was forced to resign due to a situation you will read about shortly. I resigned in January of this year.

I'm currently out of work, but in talks with several organizations who are very happy to hire me.

School

I took a few semesters off here and there, failing some and passing some classes. I finally gave up in the spring semester of 2007.

Fast Forward to December 2007: My brother calls me and tells me his girlfriend is looking at my name in the graduation program. I somehow graduated with an Associates in Applied Science in Internet Services Technology. So yeah, that's cool.

I am considering seeking a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems at Pfeiffer University.

Relationships

In January of 2005, I started dating Sarah. Some of you know of her. We were madly in love. On New Years Eve 2005, I asked her to be my wife which with many hugs, kisses, and tears she accepted.

In 2006, we had a rough year. A lot of fighting, money issues, etc.  We worked through it, became an even stronger couple and began to plan our wedding. Our wedding date was set on March 2nd, 2008. I looked forward to this date. I went to sleep happy every night because I knew when I woke up next to her, I was another day closer to being married to the most wonderful person.

Throughout 2007, we periodically would visit with photographers, caterers, bakers, and DJs. We reserved dates, paid deposits, and kept our budget balanced. Everything was going great.

In November of 2007, Sarah and I had dinner together. It was very quiet, which is unlike us, so I knew something was wrong. When we came home, I asked her if everything was ok. What she said next would haunt my dreams and crush my hopes for 2 months after. She said "I don't have any feelings for you anymore". After a lot of crying, by both of us, I decided to move out the next day. I moved into a little efficiency in the bad part of town and pretty much wallowed in my misery until I made the decision to leave her and everything else behind. In the middle of January 2008, I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. I put almost a thousand miles between me and everything I loved because of a girl who didn't love me anymore. Sounds like I got a raw deal huh? It sounds like that because I did.

My overall feeling about the situation is one of indifference. I've healed, as hard as it was. I feel much better now. I've met some nice people here in Charlotte, and I like it here. I'm happy now.

Ah, you may be wondering: What is Sarah up to these days?

The last I heard, she was getting drunk at a club and making a fool of herself. My theory is, she's trying to party away all the guilt and regret she feels over how badly she hurt the only guy that will ever treat her the way she used to deserve. She's a registered nurse in West Palm Beach, so she makes a great deal of money, but the behavior she displays at work (i.e. being hungover) isn't that of a health care professional. I'm just glad that if she ruins her life, I won't be the one that has to pick up the pieces for her. I've washed my hands of her and her life.

Other Miscellaneous Items

-I've got another tattoo since then. A sunset above the Radiohead lyrics on my left arm. The whole outside part of my upper arm is done. I just need to get the inner bicep done and I will officially have a half sleeve.

-I'm still into the music you don't hear on the radio.

-I drive a decent car these days. 2002 Ford Focus, which is better than my '93 Pontiac Bonneville

-I play a mean guitar. Meaner than ever before.

-I have really great looking sideburns

-I'm back in #Turnip with the old crew. Mike and Otis - Happy 10th!

That's about it guys. Leave me a comment and let me know you're still alive.

Thanks.

In computer class again. Bored.

A fellow manager and I are considering starting an "e-business" offering local businesses online advertising and web design services. He'll take care of the advertising and I'll take care of the web design. It won't cost us any money to get the site started so if it fails it won't be a huge loss. If we make money, that's even better because I need it. Any advice would be appreciated on this matter. Especially, the web design aspect.

I figure it's going to cost somewhere between $500-700 to go on a week vacation over the summer to The Keys with Sarah. Cheapest hotel I could find was $330 for five nights. I really need to save up but it's hard when I have to make a $270 car payment and $200 insurance payment every month. On top of that I have my cell phone bill and groceries. I might just rob a bank or something.

Alright dudes, back to work.

First entry in a long time guys. I don't even know what to write.

*I see Otis is leaving LJ...no great loss there...

Everything is going good with me. Grades are good, relationship is excellent, "off da chain" as some would say. One thing that isn't great is work and here's the reasons why:

1. My Front End Manager has been with us for 4 months and thinks she knows everything. This isn't the case because I've been there 6 and a half years and I know everything.

2. My Store Manager was fired/forced into retirement for supposedly stealing $16,000 over a period of a couple years. I'm not totally sure if I believe he did it or not but I can't say I'm too sad to see him go. However, we will be getting a new store manager pretty soon and he may or may not be as bad as my previous one.

3. Hurricane season is coming up. No fun dealing with hurricanes at work. You all remember what happened last August/September with the hurricanes.

4. EVERYBODY is quitting and going to our competitor. Any of you financially savvy people on my friends list know that Winn Dixie is in big trouble with debt. Who knows if my store will be shut down? Either way, I don't care as long as I have a job without a cut in pay.

There's more but it's boring.

New, good music has been hard to come across. I've been listening to The Decemberists new record "Picaresque". I didn't like it at first but now it's grown on me and I can't stop listening to it. The Arcade Fire is frequenting my WinAmp playlist more often now. I'm really starting to get into them. (Props to Chris with the great Beard for that).

Ah that reminds me. If it was at all possible Chris, I'd join you in No Shave April. However, my work calls for clean shaven men. I did find a loophole in the policy. It says nothing about sideburns anymore. So right now, I'm rocking some killer 'burns.

I guess that's it. My professor is giving me weird looks from the front of the room because I'm typing a lot and fast. This is Introduction to the Internet after all, so I don't think he's used to this caliber of typing in here.

Anybody has some good music to recommend, comment. You know what, comment anyway so I know you're still alive and kicking.

Old lady next to me sighing about the exam she's taking

This update inspired by Chris. We all thank you.

I haven't updated in so long because I've been kind of busy with things.

Everything is going exceptionally well. This semester my class load is fairly easy. I'm taking:

Intermediate Algebra
Microcomputer Applications
Introduction to the Internet

Yeah, that's right, Intro. to the Internet. It's a prerequisite that I'm more than happy to get an A in. My GPA needs it...desperately.

Work is the same, no change. I am up for promotion, however. When I'm asked I'm going to turn it down because soon I'll be starting Uni. and I don't need to be going to school full time and working 45+ hours a week. The pay is very tempting. A full $2 more per hour than I'm making now. School is more important than work though. Unfortunately.

I'm always on the look out for new bands to DL so if you guys have anything interesting to recommend, please do so.

Again, thank Chris for inspiring this long awaited entry.

Time for a little catch up...

Yeah I haven't updated in a long time. Sorry guys.

So here's what has happened since my last update.

Did you catch all that?

This week I've been spending money like mad.

I bought:

1. Dawn of the Dead
2. Boondock Saints
3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
4. Gave my brother $75 for his birthday
5. Paid my $200 credit card bill

Amazingly though, I'm not broke and I'm on track with my budget.

I like lists. So here's one on what I've been listening to lately

1. Interpol's "Antics"
2. Broken Social Scene
3. Explosions in the Sky
4. The Decemberists (as always)
5. Electric Light Orchestra (It's been years since I listened to them. I still remember the words though)

Speaking of E.L.O. I was driving to Gamestop last night and had "Sweet Talkin' Woman" playing really loud. When it was over I look over and this woman says "Keep it on! It's like a blast from the past!" I gave her the \m/ thing and drove off.

I figure in a couple weeks I'm going to get another tattoo added to my arm piece. I'm thinking of going with a sunset scene above the lyrics. I think it would go well with the wave below the lyrics.

Now for some serious business. Some of you loyal readers may have noticed I have taken you off my friend's list. Fret not. I did this for a reason. If you want to be added, LET ME KNOW. If not, then FINE, I don't want you on here anyway.

Indiana Jones rocks. Peace.

It's 3:30 AM and nobody is on.

I went to see Ladder 49 at the fanciest movie theatre I've ever been to. It's in downtown West Palm Beach in the CityPlace area. It's TWO stories and they call the theatres "auditoriums" The seats there were comfortable as hell. They reclined AND had an optional arm rest that you can lift up THUS making two seats. It was incredible.

After the movie, my dad and I went to a restaurant called Brewzzies. Yeah, classy name right? It's name does not reflect the total class I witnessed within it's nicely decorated walls. Apparently, this place is a microbrewery. A place that makes it own beer? What the hell did I get myself into.

After a huge Diet Pepsi at the theatre, I found myself needing to take care of business. I saunter over to the bathroom. I walk in and immediately to my left are three urinals. This is normal you say. Yeah, there were televisions over them. I'm so mad because I had my digital camera in my pocket and didn't take a picture. Also, I whipped it out (the camera) just as a hottie walked by but she spotted me and I had to play tourist.

So after getting over the awe of the bathroom, we ordered. My dad ordered Fried Calamari with Taragon Mayonnaise. I ordered Chicken Parmaigana, because I'm NORMAL. I did taste the calamari and it was damn good, so I can't complain.

That was my night.
