I voted early today, before work, at about 7:15 a.m. Walked up the five or so blocks to St. Henry's and there were only about 10 people in line in front of me, including some with children and (small) dogs. An older person needed a chair and it was promptly procured. I wonder if next year we will still be voting at St. Henry's since they are closing that parish.

Our familiar election ladies were there. The one who calls out the names to the recorder has a sweet happy voice, and I always like to hear her spell out the letters of my name with that New Orleans two-syllable R: T-E-ARRA-S. She always says the names like she's really happy and excited you are there, too.

I had a book, a snack, and water, just in case, but it went fast. So I was in there about 20-25 minutes total and then went up around the corner to Magazine to catch the bus and got to work early.

I ate a big lunch today as I correctly predicted that I might be too nervous to really eat tonight. I'm not going out anywhere to watch the results; I'm staying right here in my comfy after-work getup and nibbling and reading and watching TV and if things get too bad I have half a valium stashed around here somewhere.

My SIL is running for mayor of her small Dallas bedroom community, so I'm hoping we get good news there as well. I can't honestly say I'm as worked up about it as the prez election! But I'm hoping she does well.

So, here we go.

I think we'll probably head out to Voodoo Fest after a bit. It's kind of stupid to waste the free passes and parking and our friends are out there. I wouldn't mind seeing Mars Volta.

I hit the thrift store and the farmer's market earlier today, and worked for a bit to make up for me running off yesterday to see the man play guitar. But now, more fun is in order.

I finally finished a piece of writing I’ve been owing for some time. Now, to work on some more overdue goodness. I am hoping that will be together tomorrow or Wed, because oh lord, will it feel good to get back on track.

In other random acts of slackerdom, I was watching an old episode of Tales From the Dark Side last night because my idea of going to bed at a reasonable hour was failing miserably. The episode was about a writer who can’t get anyone to pay him or accept new pieces, so he goes to this new agent, who is constantly advertising himself on the radio screaming things like “you don’t even need talent to make it as a writer!” The agent turns out to look suspiciously like L. Ron Hubbard. I think they clinched the parody when they brought out this little box with a meter on it and asked the writer to grip a metal part attached to a cord. The box was supposed to measure how much money the writer could make for them (since the agent always gets 10%). Hmm, sounds familiar. Hubbardesque guy spends the rest of the show eating grapes on a big round bed and extorting people via black magic to write hack work. Hilarious. I only vaguely remember the series, since I think it aired during one of my multi-year TV fasts. But it amused me to see it now. That crazy L. Ron!

I finally fixed my washing machine. Today is going to be laundry extravaganza day (I just got up). It took a little work, but washers and dryers are actually not that complicated and I like the problem-solving aspect. I really couldn't see spending the money on a repair person to come out to replace a $15 part.

Last night was Art for Art's Sake, which was pretty fun. Helen and I roamed Magazine street checking out galleries and partaking in free food and drink. Later on Will and I went to the Tabula Rasa show at Blue Nile. It was killer. It was also like old home week since there were lots of people out at the show that we don't see that often otherwise, and there hasn't been a TR show in years and years.

I was up late hanging out but made myself get up so I can get to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight. I don't have anything all that challenging to do today anyway. Just the laundry and I hope some reading and movie-watching.
