Wrote this monday morning

Woke at 4am and couldn't sleep. Dressed and quietly left the room. I found my way to the food hall and pulled up a seat next to the very dark window. Many of the philappino porters were singing as they prepared for the crowds for the morning meal. It was brilliant and dramatic. They were quite nice and brought brioche, jam and coffee.

Another day in paradise

Lovely day today... It should be about 85, dry and sunny.  I'm going to work from my patio today.  It's a day of conference calls and paperwork and I might as well do the damned stuff from here.
What are you up to today?

We are simpletons

For our entire school-lives both Jackie and I had our first day of school the first Tuesday in September following Labour Day. This was without fail, etched in stone, never to be torn asunder. The Lake Washington school district appears to use the Mayan calendar.  The short version of where I am getting at is that Henry will be in Alaska with us while his school mates endure the first week of school. Personally I didn't think of this as too big a deal as not much really happens.  If you ask Henry's buddies they'll say they go to a lot of lectures in the gym that they don't listen to the first week and that nothing happens.  When we asked the teacher's how big a mistake we'd made and what he would miss they stressed that we should cancel our holiday as the first week is among the most important and that Henry would never catch up.
We looked at rescheduling the trip but it would cost us $1200.  We've decided our son is a genius and will succeed despite missing several key assemblies. His friends think he's the luckiest boy in the world.  I think he is too, but for entirely different reasons.

Comment on the Latest Top Gear

Clarkson asks why Canada will manufacture an SUV that can withstand small arms fire for a full 24 hours.  The answer should have occurred to him. The answer is.. friendly fire.  Just think of who their neighbours are.

Goofing around a parking lot after dark

I know it's a rubbish photo but there is something about it I like. Giving it some thought what I really like about shooting after dark is that I really have NO idea what I'm going to get. For instance, I had no idea there was this much water vapour in the air.. or on my lens.
The colours that came through were also quite unexpected. It certainly wasn't the light and colour that my brain had corrected so neatly.
I'm going to be doing a lot more of this.
