Geeky Goodness and Fun

I had a lot of fun creating the detective subclasses, so I thought I would try challenging myself with creating subclasses around a new theme. The second theme I chose was wild magic, since it's something I've always loved.

Here is the document after the first round of feedback.

The weirdest thing in this document is the new version of wild magic sorcerer I made, because it is a completely random spellcaster that requires using this website I made:

Here is the link to the homebrewery for easy sharing and the PDF:

There was one goal here, and I think it's been done very well. A lot of very unique concepts here, like the Fighter sub.

While the effects are (nominally) under your control for most of these, they're consistently in your favor, which helps encourage you to use your random table as often as possible. Except the Rogue one, which of course has "you explode" as a random result. I suppose one of them had to.

With how competitive Monk's usual bonus actions are, it feels odd that you're required to use your bonus action to use your Attunement. You can definitely work with it regardless of the result, but there's going to be times when you wish you'd just punched them. Particularly since it comes right after Fighter's which does have "As a bonus action or when you roll initiative".

(Obviously they're different classes, and Fighter's doesn't expend a resource so it's more of a convenience thing so that you don't encourage player to just constantly summon and unsummon weapons, but still.)

💎 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺! H'rethi Cloak of Shielding Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement) ___

This asymmetrical cloak is typically worn by desert nomads in place of more durable armor. Its woven fibers have been enchanted to be like the shifting sand of the desert, shrugging off extraordinary heat and devastating blows. While wearing the cloak, you have resistance to fire damage, and any critical hit against you becomes a normal hit. The cloak also has 4 charges and regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. When a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with an attack (but before it deals damage), you can use your reaction to expend 1 of the cloak’s charges to force that creature to reroll the attack. It must use the new roll. ___

Prior Connections | Because meeting up in a tavern is cool and all, but what if…?

PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here! I release everything for free, so your support makes this possible. I've also started making a new system based off of 5e, 6th Dawn! Become a patron and join the playtest.

My Kickstarter has been funded! Get in on the tycanthropic awesome!

So, I was quite fond of that Connections thing that I stuck on the end of my Gladiator background, so I made some more. All of the phb backgrounds are on there, but also some other good ones, mostly from the swords coast adventurers' guide and the haunted one from Van Richten's. Oh and my cultist background, because I think it's neat.

As with all things, there are some cheeky references sprinkled in here and there. A part of me wishes I implied a singular incident that a bunch of backgrounds were all involved in. But alas, filling tables is hard work

And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.

At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:

I also have four classes, and a splatbook over on DriveThrueRPG to check out:

  • The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
  • The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
  • The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
  • The Beguiler. A spellcaster dedicated to illusions, enchantments, and general fuckery.
  • d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!

No one quite expected this. Jimothy just showed up looking a little different and a lot lovable.

💎 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺! Stonewalker Wraps
Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement by a monk) ___ These dusty leather footwraps are stitched with a geographic pattern. While wearing them, you gain the following benefits. 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚. You gain tremorsense out to a range of 10 feet, and difficult terrain composed of earth or stone doesn’t cost you extra movement. When you expend a ki point to use your Step of the Wind, the range of this tremorsense increases to 30 feet until the start of your next turn. 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙬. When you expend a ki point to use your Flurry of Blows as a bonus action, you can replace any of the unarmed strikes you make as part of it with a special attack. This attack summons an earthen slab from the ground below a target that you can see within 60 feet of you, striking the target with unyielding force before returning to the ground. Treat the attack as if it were a normal unarmed strike, except it ignores half and three-quarters cover. If you use your Stunning Strike on an unarmed strike made in this way, the attack also deals an extra 1d6 bludgeoning damage. 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚. When you expend a ki point to use your Patient Defense as a bonus action, you can choose to grant yourself resistance to piercing and slashing damage until the start of your next turn, instead of its normal effects. ___ ✨ Patrons get huge perks!
