Thoughts and Things

So the weekend of four shows has come and gone. I am sunburned and tired, but it really went very well except for our street party gig getting rained out (gig two on Saturday). We set up, started playing and a HUGE GINORMOUS thunderstorm drenched us and our speakers and after we tore everything down in a gale the sun came out and it got gorgeous, except all the electronics were soaked and if we'd plugged in it would have been nothing but blown speakers and thousands of dollars in repair.

It went, for the record - Friday at one of the most important venues in our local area's beer garden as an audition for one of the three big stages they have inside - we killed it, but my brother got heat stroke and had to sit for the last set as it was about 98 degrees and a billion percent humidity. I was also quite ill afterward, but the show went well.

Saturday we opened a new festival in a town near the river. We killed it, but very few people were there, however our MOM came out to see part of it and she never does that. Plus her pal R. also came. It was very nice.

Then we went to a local brewpub with some of our fans and had a lovely lunch, then on to the street party in the city and the horrible rainout.

Today we played a charity event for veterans, where we raised more than $5000 to help repair the homes of veterans in need. We hung out with some incredible local musicians and I was actually on the bill with someone who sings better than I do. She was the only one of the dozen or so female singers there who did, but it almost never happens and WOW. She was great. Plus they did originals.

I strongly, strongly suggest you check them out and buy their album when it drops in October. DAMN.

Also, now that I have read the detailed bio and see she was a vocal performance major and pro musical theatre actor, I don't feel so bad seeing I never studied past high school.

Ok, so my last entry was September of last year.

The rest of the entries will look like band, band, band, still no new job. Some amusing new writing stuff I'm working on, band band band.

I am almost entirely over at facebook nowadays. I don't feel like I have any new content worthy of posting, really.

It was different when everyone was over here, but mostly they're not now.

But I am being considered for a new job and a recruiter is representing me. So I hope something will come of it.

After proving at work that our team does 3x the work of every other team in the building with our same job titles - for no more pay or any incentives whatsoever, we were told at a meeting on Monday that we were just going to have to work harder and stay later because there's just no money for us getting any help.

But there are all those people with the same job titles we have doing 1/3 of the work we do for the same pay. Yeah. It's great.

Also, all the jobs I have been applying for have dried up and they only want designers. I'm going to have to get serious and start stalking places I want to work instead of looking for postings. This will be hard.

And there's LOKI FIC to write. It's developed a life of its own.

But I really need a new job, like yesterday. Because I'd like to be less burned out and better able to write.

Still working on it. Tried going to Archive of our own, but I suck at using it, apparently.

Is there some way to sort by up votes or something?

Everything is Mary Sue teenagers screwing various people or slash fic.

Has anyone else written canon Avengers gen fic? Because I just can't find it.

In other news, things are very, very bad at work. My main team seems to be imploding, lots of people are leaving the company. They are gunning for our VP.

Know anybody who needs a copywriter/marketer?

So this was the weekend we played two shows in one day. I am actually pretty ok for having played bass and singing for 6 hours yesterday.

We got great response from both crowds and next week we have another show on Friday. We're pretty much solidly booked this summer, and starting to be booked into the fall.

That's really about all I do these days besides the usual work.

Though I've been contemplating Thor fic. Does anybody have any to rec? I have a fairly canon gen idea. I especially am interested in stories with Loki.

Can anybody help a girl out?

Yeah, I haven't been over here because I come here so seldom I forgot my password.

And now they've changed the interface and whatevs.

I will try to be better about reading people's stuff, anyway.

My life is so dull the crap I post to facebook is about all I can handle.

I am mostly over at Facebook these days and am remiss even having time to read here.

It's mostly all about band adventures all the time for me these days. I'm writing lyrics for some songs. We'll see if they end up on the album. Maybe I'll even write some music. The music my brother has written really doesn't go with my lyrics, so maybe it's all up to me.

It feels like that a lot. Like no one can do anything for themselves unless I'm there holding their hands or something. And honestly, I work longer hours and more than any of them. It's driving me nuts.

But I am so, so boring and tiresome otherwise I have nothing to report.

I am filled with a whole lot of work-related grump right now. I will eventually get over it, but I keep having it demonstrated that no one trusts my abilities, even those who have seen them demonstrated again and again over the course of 13 years. Honestly. I need a new job.

I mean how many assignments do you need to do correctly before people believe you can do things correctly? A million?

I need a way to record my band on video that gives us good sound that we can put up on You Tube for promotional purposes.

Is there an affordable camera that both does a) low light and b) good sound?

Other people seem to get good audio up on You tube, but ours is horrid.

Any advice would be welcomed.
