Vladimir Nabokov’s note card, c. 1969.
“[March 21 1951]
Student explaining to me (after getting 55) that when reading a novel (’Ulysses’ in this case) he likes to skip ‘passages and pages’ so as ‘to get his own idea, you know, about the book and not be influenced by the author’.”
Students being students I guess. Also, circa 1969 but labeled “March 21 1951”? Did aiaiai do this?
Got a call in the wee hours of the morning. I had started to fill out one of their forms to get more info, but they wanted my phone number so I abandoned it because fuck getting phone calls in the wee hours of the morning.
That worked well.
I had dismissed the call but they texted too. My phone texted back I’d return their call. The phone didn’t ask me beforehand. Rude.
I texted back that it wasn’t me who texted back and to take me off their list. They said that “it happens sometimes”.
I’m not entirely sure I ever communicated with a human.
I’ll now be referring to the Synthetics as aiaiai (ay ay ay) because that feels right given the circumstances. Also, it’s clearer than using caps and having it look like I’m ranting about some random Albert out there or lowercase and looking like a typo.
