“Hold still, my love” Sophie said, drawing the comb through the tangle at the nape of Violet's neck as gently as she could. 

Even at only four years old, Violet Sae-rom Bridgerton was the spitting image of her mother. Sophie argued that her daughter's eyes were her father’s, and while the color of Violet’s eyes were lighter like her fathers, everyone else knew that Violet inherited the same inquisitive eyes her mother had. Her dark curls also perfectly mimicked Sophie’s, especially when she placed a matching bow on the top of her head.  

"Ow," Violet said, but she didn’t pull away. 

“I know, sweetheart. I’m almost done.” Sophie worked through the final knot, thankful that her daughter was a patient child.
