Finished painting old flat, yay!

I took a day off work on Friday, and Hubby and I spent the weekend painting the rest of the old apartment. Fortunately, we're finished now. I don't think I could stand another weekend alternating between standing bent over, hurting my back, and kneeling on the floor, hurting my knees while painting the corners, next to the skirting boards, behind the radiators and around the doors, light switches and sockets... (basically every part of the wall that Hubby's roller couldn't cover)

The bathroom was especially annoying because I had to stand on the edge of the bathtub to paint the walls above it. The ladder didn't fit in the tub, and my arms were to short to reach the walls when I'd put the ladder beside the bathtub. (It sucks big time to be small!) I finally put a board across the bathtub and stood on this, but my legs got all crampy because I tried to stand absolutely still in fear any moves would make the board slide from the bathtub's rim.

I'm so glad it's over now!

Our dishwasher was making strange noises yesterday. Worried, Hubby looked at the thing and found out that the man who assembled the kitchen connected it to the warm water supply instead of the cold water tap. I dunno if this is the cause of the noise, but warm water has a much lower pressure than cold water, so perhaps the machine didn't get enough water fast enough and this caused the strange sounds... Not to mention that warm water is more expensive than cold water (even 17 liters, which is the amount needed for one washing) and the dishwasher doesn't need warm water because it heats it itself. Blergh.

Things are improving

The good thing about bad things is that eventually, they get better.

Yesterday everything we ordered for our kitchen arrived, except the countertop for two cupboards in a corner (this one is inevitably delayed for another week). So we can at least fill all except these two cupboards, which is a thing I can live with, I think. I was emptying boxes, filling cupboards and washing up dishes (well, putting them in and out of the dish washer) until 1 a.m. before I couldn't go on any longer and went to bed. This was the second night in a row moving things away until 1 a.m., and I woke up with a big sugar low twice last night, so now I'm deadly tired and could fall asleep right at my desk. But at least the kitchen will be inhabitable when the first guests arrive tomorrow evening.

And now for something completely different: My colleague who is great at taking pictures has shot the cutest raccoon I've ever seen.

What a morning :o(

I should have stayed in bed today.
It looks like Bush stays president.
I called the kitchen vendor this morning to check if the ordered kitchen items all arrived (because they should come yesterday) and learned that the delivery was delayed for two weeks. Now we'll have only half a kitchen for two more weeks and the flat full of guests at the weekend.
Because of the phone call I missed the traffic announcements in the radio and promptly run in a traffic jam on my way to work.
And I had a row with Hubby because our flat still looks like a battle field and I was wondering what he's doing all day because I can't see any progress going on and repeated two or three times that we'll have guests at the weekend and should get some rooms into shape asap.
Such a wonderful day, and it's only 9.00 am. </sarcasm>

More unpacking to do

A few words about the weekend: It was long and straining. We managed to get the bigger half of the old apartment finished, only the kitchen, the bathroom and the store-room remain to be painted (which will be done in one day, me hopes). And for some obscure reason the paint in the biggest room doesn't stick to the wall. It keeps flaking off in big areas. Perhaps a priming coat will help there.

And now I need to go home. Our kitchen was assembled today, and the moving agency called this morning; they'd like to get their moving boxes back tomorrow -> I'll have to empty twenty boxes and put their content into the kitchen cupboards. Wish me fun. *groan*

I'll be offline until next Tuesday

I'll be at my sister's house for the next few days, painting the walls of my old flat and celebrating my father's birthday, but I hope I can at least get online long enough to vote in slowfox's TNG Balloon Poll (Wesley, Troi and Crusher are gone, true to the motto women and children first , and it looks like attractive, manly, I-used-to-have-a-crush-on-him-when-I-was-a-teen Riker would be the next to plunge into the black acidic ocean. )

Everything we buy gets ditched

* So far, we couldn't buy more of 1) our kitchen furniture, 2) fabric of our sofa, 3) spare parts for our vacuum cleaner and 4) living room curtains.

On some brighter news, I plugged myself yesterday at mctabby's HP Fandom Friending Frenzy and got six new interesting friends today! Hello to fluffyllama, patchedrobes, rivendellrose, shagsthedustmop, tainted_phial and thetreacletart! There's a magic sofa that'll always stretch enough for my entire flist to sit comfortably, so take a seat, have some drinks and nibbles and endure enjoy my babbling!
I considered making an introductory post about myself, but I'm lazy and will point to my user info instead.
And to the newest round of slowfox's famous Balloon of DoomTM Poll. Go vote Beverly Crusher the next TNG crew member out!

Today's my father's birthday. Must remember to call him when I get home.

And because I'm a sheep: Everyone's doing the clipboard meme, so I'm doing it too. Please add a comment and paste what's right now in your clipboard/copy-and-paste buffer. *is curious*

Pic meme and stuff

Have updated my user info and my emergency contact info with the new address. And informed countless other institutions via phone, mail or email about my new address. And the longer I think about it, the more I remember who have to be informed too. Wah.

Something infinitely nicer: The Pic Meme (Gacked from hiddenhibiscus)
If you'd like to see things about my life, e.g. the chaos in my new flat, or a naked billiard table that's awaiting new cloth (how interesting </irony>), or something totally weird, this is your chance. Just request whatever you've always wondered about and I'll take pictures and post them.

And gacked it because it was floating around everywhere: Collapse )

If you've ever wondered why ass kissers fare better than hard workers, read this entry from atala. This explains it very well, IMHO.

Back again

Hiho, I'm back on work! While this in itself is not a reason to celebrate, this means that I'm online again, which is wonderful.

At first I'll do the I-was-away-and-my-flist-has-grown-too-big-to-catch-up-on-meme. So please add in the comments everything important or memorable or interesting or funny or whatever from last week that you think I'd like to know or I shouldn't miss.

Update on the new flat: Most of the furniture is standing where it's supposed to be, but lots of the smaller shelves are still waiting to be hung up (as are the pictures and curtains). We're making progress, but slowly. Hubby needed half of Sunday to get lighting in the living room, because it took him some time to figure out that the reason for not working lamps aren't the lamps or the way he connected them, but tons of dried paint inside of the light switch that the previous occupants left there when painting the room.

The kitchen will be assembled probably sometime next week, but we have a working fridge, microwave, toaster and water cooker, so we can wait without big pain.
Number of unpacked boxes so far: 15

And some good news: We haven't discovered anything broken yet.
